Volume 3 – When he bravely forged ahead on the sea waves
Chapter III The rude and arrogant mermaid princess
If you do not have wings, then, only your corpse has the right to drift over the sea – an ancient commandment of the Sea race circulating in the world since ancient times.
“Beamon, huh?” The mermaid stopped singing. Her beautiful blue eyes stared at Liu Zhenhan as she asked: “Were you the one singing that song just now?
The mermaid asked slowly in a common language of Qiu Mainland Mermaid. Her frank approach was reminiscent of that of an old friend meeting after several years, though sounded a bit persuasive with an uncertain fantastic flavor.
“Yes, I was.” Liu Zhenhan tightened his grip on the bamboo spear and replied in an equally straightforward manner. At this moment, several dark figures suddenly emerged from the sea behind the mermaid, like a patrolling team. Under the soft illumination of luminous pearl, their figures were clearly exposed in front of Liu Zhenhan’s eyes.
Each one of them was brawny, about two meters tall, had spindle-shaped head and smooth muscular body. They were clad in clothes st.i.tched from seaweed. There were long fishbone spears in their hands, with some having fork-shaped ones, as their desire to kill was evident from their cold and arrogant facial expressions.
Each of them was riding a magnificent tiger shark, gently cleaving the waves and floating freely in the water. The saddles were made of corals and the overall scene seemed kind of grim under the beautiful night sky. Those tiger sharks were maliciously staring at the meager remnants of the bamboo raft while there was a sort of hunger in their eyes.
Hailun’s hand was shaking violently in the palm of Liu Zhenhan. She tried to conceal her fear but all her efforts were in vain.
“It is the Bulin clan of magical shark warriors.” Hailun whispered in his ears gently. Her present facial expression reminded him of the nights when she used to see nightmares and wake up covered in cold sweat. She was unable to bear the chills that were evident from her trembling voice.
The mermaid gently fiddled the harp and asked: “Why have you ventured into the seas? Don’t you know the rules of sea race? No terrestrial creatures are allowed to violate our seas without permission.”
“Oh beautiful and n.o.ble Mermaid Princess, we are just two poor beastman souls wandering in this bitter sea and trying to survive. We have experienced a lot of sufferings in the past few days and now just want to return home as soon as possible. We certainly wouldn’t dare to have any intention of challenging the dignified sea race. We just want to go back home, that’s all.” Hailun went for an aristocratic bowing to show respect to the royal mermaid clan of the sea race.
“Beautiful and young fox lady, I see that you belong to the n.o.ble fox clan of Beamon Kingdom.” The mermaid princess smiled as two bundles of her golden hair gently brushed her bosom, revealing two perfectly round twins……
Liu Zhenhan’s eyes immediately opened wide, an instinctive reaction on his part. Indeed, very true to his instincts!
“The pigman is also a Beamon sacred sacrifice, right? What a wonderful Beamon battle song he sang just now! It’s been many years but our sea race still hasn’t forgotten the wondrous battle songs of Beamon Kingdom.” The mermaid princess flicked her golden dazzling hair behind and smiled, revealing her front and inducing an equally bright smile on Brother Liu Zhenhan’s face.
“Yes, your highness.” said Hailun with perfect and impeccable n.o.bility prevalent in her stance while answering the mermaid princess’ question.
Liu Zhenhan’s bright smile was immediately replaced by a disappointed one when he saw two small sh.e.l.ls covering the twins on her chest.
“Many years, I cannot seem to recall when I had last heard a battle song!” The mermaid princess said with a sigh: “Can typical pig people actually become sacred sacrifices and hold powerful positions in the Beamon Kingdom? Has the Beamon Kingdom of beastkin become more powerful now, or has completely declined?”
“To be or not to be is the choice of great War-G.o.d Campas. It is not something we mortals can decide, Your Highness.” Hailun slightly bowed and replied respectfully.
“Are you two lovers?” The mermaid princess looked at Liu Zhenhan, asked: “I didn’t know that pig warriors can be as silent a clown fish living in the bottoms of the sea. Why don’t you answer my question, pigman?”
Her eyes appeared both n.o.ble and proud, like those of an eagle overlooking its prey from above.
“Yes, we are lovers! Royal Princess!” Liu Zhenhan glanced at almost a dozen tiger shark knights carefully positioning themselves around the raft and said with a genial smile.
Hailun looked at him affectionately.
“No wonder your song was full of sadness and sorrow. In fact, I think am willing to recognize your voice as the most beautiful and soothing known to us. Your incredible voice has won the inherently emotional hearts of mermaid clan.” The mermaid princess exposed a touching smile: “Since it a matter concerning lovers, and considering the fact that beastkin are not as abominable and hateful as human beings, may the divine light of sea-G.o.d Neptune and Imphal shine upon you. I am ready to forgive you for breaking the law and barging into the seas.”
Who says that people of sea race are unreasonable? Liu Zhenhan thought and smiled. Even on Hailun’s face appeared a beautiful smile as both of them heaved a sigh of relief. Perhaps, the rumors were not credible to begin with.
However, Hailun did not get enough time to thank as she was interrupted by the mermaid prince as she spookily opened her mouth and said.
“I am so sorry to say that in order to prove your love I have decided that only one of you can leave the seas safe and alive, as a great proof of love. I want to offer him to the G.o.ddess Terry, wife of sea-G.o.d Imphal as Tribute.” The mermaid princess grinned, revealing a set of beautiful white teeth which were reflecting the breathtaking beauty of the night sky.
The smiling faces of Hailun and Liu Zhenhan immediately stiffened.
A total of 12 tiger shark knights immediately encircled the raft, including some that dived into the water to block the escape route below. At this time, a beautiful tiger shark sprang out of the water and jumped over the raft, making a beautiful arc of water of about 10 meters in radius. It seemed as if it had come swimming straight from the darkest depths of the sea. This was the best way to demonstrate the frightening power of the sea race in brief.
Liu Zhenhan appeared unusually calm right now and seemed to be calmly a.s.sessing the situation, observing the enemy’s formation and numbers. A strong b.l.o.o.d.y smell was exuding from the bodies of these tiger sharks while there were several cut marks on their bodies, indicating their past engagement in deadly fights or perhaps harsh training routines. The magical shark warriors appeared even more deadly and vicious. Their black colored bushy eyebrows were making them appear even more aggressive.
Pot-bellied Fruit jumped upon Liu Zhenhan’s shoulder and growled, exposing his teeth and making ugly faces to frighten the magical shark warriors.
Hailun also summoned her acid-type osprey bird and prepared it for battle.
They were practically confused and forced into action by the mermaid princess’s bewildering and inexplicable proposal, directly concerning Liu Zhenhan’s life and death.
Liu Zhenhan curled up the corners of his mouth and smirked while tightly holding the bamboo spear and quietly watching the mermaid princess as if trying to read her thought process.
Also, his smiling face resembled that of a legendary Olympic champion who was already certain of his victory.
The mermaid princess was obviously surprised by Liu Zhenhan’s response to her proclamation. She was shocked that her threat had left no effect on him as if he was not at all worried. She was especially surprised because the bravery of a beastman warrior surpa.s.sed her expectations.
“Fox girl, tell me your name.” said the mermaid princess in an undeniable tone. Her tail was striking against the waves beneath the reef, spraying water in all directions.
“Your Highness, I am a n.o.ble Beamon sacred sacrifice, soul singer Hailun.” Hailun replied in an impeccable aristocratic gesture.
“I never thought that this fox girl will also turn out to be a sacred sacrifice. How amusing!” The mermaid princess viciously laughed: “A fox beauty can fetch about 5000 gold coins in a human country on the Qin Mainland. And the ones who also hold the t.i.tle of sacrifice should fetch even higher prices. You tell me, why shouldn’t I catch you alive and sell you to those evil humans?”
Hailun’s body was slightly trembling but she still remained proud while staring stubbornly at the mermaid princess’s face, smiling maliciously at them.
