"I don't want to be a busy body but since my mother is quite close to Mrs. Souma, I can't help but pity her," said Kanako exasperatedly.
Tsubaki didn't say anything. She lowered her gaze, looking at the tea in her cup. Her index fingers silently tracing the edge of the saucer. Hearing to Kanako's story, she couldn't help but felt the ache in her heart.
If it was true, how could Mrs. Souma lived her entire life loving a man who didn't return her love?
If it was her, what would she do? Would she stay? Or would she leave Ren and find the one who loved her?
The love she had for him had been too deep, it wouldn't be easy to pull herself together and leave him if he didn't love her.
But, to protect her self-worth, she wouldn't stay behind. Although it was hard to the point of killing her heart, she would still choose to love herself more.
Why should she sacrifice her life for a man who didn't love her?
"It is true that we couldn't see everything in a person," Tsubaki said quietly after a long period of silence. Her eyes were still on the surface of her black tea. "Not everyone would think like us so we couldn't force them to see our point."
Kanako nodded her head silently. She agreed with Tsubaki.
The air around them turned solemn, as dark as the sky outside. After a few moments, Kanako suddenly clapped her hands loudly.
"Let's forget about them. We shouldn't dive deeper in their relationship. It's my stupid mouth's fault for bringing a difficult subject!" Kanako slapped her mouth with an angry look on her face.
Tsubaki couldn't help but laugh at her attempt to cheer her up. Her shoulders shook slightly as she tried to contain her laugh.
"You're right," Tsubaki wiped the tears at the corners of her eyes. She laughed hard enough for the tears to come out. "Help yourself with the desserts! I hope you'd like them."
"En!"
Kanako didn't stand on the ceremony. She started indulging herself with all the cakes and pastries. Tsubaki smiled, she held the cup back and brought it to her lips.
As they were chatting, a steady sound of footsteps approaching them.
"Madam."
Tsubaki and Kanako looked up to the owner of the voice. Hibiki stood facing Tsubaki. Tsubaki covered her mouth as she had just reminded of something.
"Aiya! I almost forgot it's time for you to come and get the lunch!"
"Apologies, Madam. I should have arrive sooner but the traffic was quite slow earlier," Hibiki offered his apology.
"Please don't worry. You should drive more carefully in this weather. Please wait for a minute."
Tsubaki stood up and left to go to the kitchen. In just a short time she came back with a grey paper bag in her hands. She handed it to Hibiki.
"I put shirataki noodles in one box and the soup in the thermos. Please handle it with care. The soup is still hot," Tsubaki began to leave instruction to Hibiki. She quickly added, "Oh ya, I put three creme brulee inside. Just leave one for Ren. The other two is for you and Matsuzaki."
"You don't have to..." Hibiki smiled in guilt. "I can't.."
"If you don't accept it, I'd stalk you whenever you have a date with Yoshie later," Tsubaki smiled as she playfully threatened him in a quiet voice.
The expression on Hibiki's face was so priceless. He was so stunned until he forgot to close his gaping mouth.
Tsubaki laughed, she quickly waved him off. "Go now! I'm sure you don't want to starve my husband. Don't let him take revenge on you because of petty matters!"
"O.. Understood, Madam!"
Hibiki quickly left the bakery. But Tsubaki noticed his subtle look towards Yoshie who was also pretending not to see him.
How cute!
"That's President Fuse's special a.s.sistant, right?" Kanako took a bite of the strawberry shortcake. "The lunch box is for him?"
Seeing the way Tsubaki and Hibiki interacted with each other, it was obvious that he would always come here to collect the lunch box for his Big Boss. Kanako widened her eyes as she smiled with a teasing look on her face.
"I can't believe you'd always prepare lunch boxes for your husband! President Fuse is a really lucky man!" Kanako laughed in glee.
Tsubaki smiled. She took her seat back, pouring more tea into Kanako's cup. "He always forget to eat lunch whenever he's working. Or he would just eat a slice of sandwich. I couldn't just let it be."
"Aiya! You two are so much in love with each other!" Kanako munched on the chocolate bagel next. "When I saw him being affectionate with you during the party, I really couldn't believe my eyes. President Fuse has always distanced himself from women so it was such a shock to see him like that."
Tsubaki giggled when she heard the way Kanako spoke. Her pearly white teeth gleamed as she laughed. "I've seen and heard the same reaction as yours countless times already, especially from his subordinates. They really viewed him as a Winter King."
"About President Fuse..." Kanako trailed off suddenly, she lowered her head as her eyes carried a hint of guilt. "I'm sorry."
"En?" Tsubaki stared at Kanako, one of her brows raised up. "For what?"
Kanako sighed. She placed both of her hands around the tea cup. The warmth of the ceramic seeped into her cold fingers.
"My father insulted you before. I'm really sorry about that. And... I want you to know that nothing ever happened between me and President Fuse. There were talks about marriage before but neither me nor he took part in it. So, please rest a.s.sure!"
Tsubaki smiled calmly. She liked looking at Kanako. Her bright personality carried sincerity in her. The second time they met, she had already looked forward to meet her again.

"About your father, it's not your fault. I have already forgotten about that," said Tsubaki, her voice was as clear as a stream in the cold weather. "About my husband, I believe him. And I believe you. So, please don't be guilty."
Kanako hummed, she appeared dejected. "It's true that no one could resist from having the head of Fuse Family as a husband but when I see Mrs. Souma, I don't want to be tied to a loveless marriage. I won't be happy. Father always pressed me to try making President Fuse has interest in me but I know it's impossible. And, I never has feelings for him so I didn't even bother to try."
Tsubaki placed her elbows on the table as she rested her chin on her hands. Kanako was so amusing. Despite her eccentricity, she was level headed and knew her goals in life.
"Well, if I was you I wouldn't has interest in him too I think," said Tsubaki as she suddenly laughed, finding the topic of her husband as funny. "If I didn't know him, I'd truly be scared by his cold face like his subordinates does. It's truly intimidating! I'd obviously run away from him. He really looks like a wolf waiting for his preys."
Ha?
Kanako was perplexed. She stared at the laughing Tsubaki in disbelief. How could she say that with a laugh? Didn't she afraid her husband would hear that?
Even though Kanako herself was a little terrified whenever she saw that man's dark face, she wouldn't even dare to say it out loud.
As Kanako was still startled, a deep voice sounded from their side.
"What did you say, sweetheart? You would run away from me if you didn't know me? And I look intimidating to you?"
Tsubaki's laugh ceased immediately as a cold stare made her shivered. She turned her head and looked up. Her eyes widened as she saw her husband's smirking face only in a short distance from her.
Uh oh!
I'm dead!
