She looked up at the beautiful tiles in the ceiling of the chamber and tried to take a little mental photo. She knew she'd probably never see this temple or its people again.
All things considered, she was leaving Kushuk a better place than she'd found it, decided Annie. Ishkar's beer was a raging success and featured largely in this festival. Already workers were being hired back, a new brewery was under construction, and a couple of days before, a crew had arrived from Ur to sample the beverage.
Annie realized she might well have started the whole franchising thing as she heard that Ishkar had decided to sell his beer but not share his process. G.o.d, was she the mother of infomercials? She devoutly hoped not.
There was the new agreement for cooperation between the Moon and the River G.o.ddesses, too. That could only be a good thing.
And then there was all the neat stuff Kyle had done over the last five years. He'd never mentioned things like his suggestions for a cleaner town-better drainage ditches-or his suggestions for trade improvements. But they'd been accomplished and were now part of the Sun G.o.d's legacy.
Yes, between the two of them, they'd helped. If this was to be their last day here-Annie refused to even think it might be their last day anywhere-then she'd concentrate on the good things. All of which had been accomplished quietly and without any human sacrifice.
Except that of the flesh, of course. And she'd readily sacrifice her flesh to the man next to her right this moment if he wanted.
She was such a sucker. One look from those green eyes and she'd drop her skirt and spread her thighs.
Yes, that was the look. Kyle must have sensed her thoughts because he flashed her his killer grin at a very appropriate moment in her meditations. Or inappropriate as the case might be.
Annie tried to stop her body from aching. It had been too long since she'd had Kyle's c.o.c.k right where it belonged. Deep inside her, nudging her womb.
The realization that Kyle was the other half of her life, her soul, her spirit, Laurel to her Hardy, yin to her yang or whatever, made her understand that this time in Sumer had brought her more than she could possibly imagine.
Her heart ached as she gazed at the man she loved.
He raised a flask of beer, took a swig and belched slightly. G.o.d, she was nuts about him. She prayed to all the G.o.ds and G.o.ddesses that she'd have at least another fifty years to tell him so. In any era.
"It's time." Kyle's quiet words pierced the hubbub of conversation that was taking place around Annie.
She drew in a breath, put her hand in his and stood. Ronnil and Enshilla were already waiting for them at
the doorway, and although hesitant to leave this lovely temple, Annie knew that Kyle was right. It was
time.
The walk back to the Sun G.o.d's temple was almost somber, even though a large number of the citizens of Kushuk had a.s.sembled to wave and cheer their favorite Priest and his High Priestess.
There was no need for conversation between the princ.i.p.als. Kyle's mind was probably working over his scientific calculations, and Annie knew she was trying to slow her heart rate down so that she didn't drop dead before the experiment had a chance to kill her.
It seemed they arrived at the temple terribly quickly, but at this point Annie figured her mind had just warped off into another dimension. Fear, liberally mixed with Ishkar's beer, would do that to a person.
Enshilla led Kyle and Annie to a small chamber and helped them remove their jewelry.
"You are sure you do not wish to wear these, High Priest?" asked Enshilla, holding up the heavy collar."I'm sure, Lady. I am about to celebrate a fertility ritual, and that would leave a horrid mark on my wife."He grinned over at Annie, obviously deriving much enjoyment from those two words.
"Thank you, husband." She smiled back. "I shall offer you the same courtesy."Annie removed her jewelry, conscious of the fact that Kyle had insisted they wear no metal during thisentire process. She was a bit put out, because some of the gold she'd worn...oh, well. It probably would have looked strange for her to suddenly produce artifacts from Ancient Sumer if they made it home totheir own time.Enshilla respectfully deferred, and after insuring that they had all they needed, left them alone together.Kyle grabbed Annie and pulled her roughly into his chest."Ooof!""Sorry, Annie. I just needed to touch you."Aware of his hard c.o.c.k digging into her and demanding her attention, she chuckled. "You're touching me, all right.""Are you sure you want to do this? Oh G.o.d, if something should go wrong...""Kyle, the only thing that could go wrong is that we become separated. Live or die, it has to be together.
" Her hands slid around his neck and she pressed little kisses to his chin."Annie..." he muttered, finding her lips.Their kiss deepened and within moments their bodies were straining against each other."Do we have time?" panted Annie, c.l.i.t aching and juices running down her thigh."I don't care, we'll make time," growled Kyle around a mouthful of breast.
He pushed her down onto a nearby table and spread her thighs. "I can't wait, Annie...""Me neither." Her hands grabbed his a.s.s and pulled. To both their satisfaction, Kyle's c.o.c.k slid into Annie's c.u.n.t like a key into a lock. They both gave identical little sighs of pleasure.
Then Kyle moved and Annie wriggled.
Kyle groaned and Annie moaned.
Kyle dropped his head and Annie levered herself up onto her forearms. They both watched as Kyle's
c.o.c.k thrust in and out of Annie's swollen flesh, glistening and hardening even more."Kyle..." whispered Annie, spellbound at the sight."Yessss..." hissed Kyle, raising his head and watching Annie watch him.It was enough to push him over.He grunted and the movement of his hips quickened, making Annie raise her legs and cross her ankles behind him as she hung on for the ride.
She could feel every nerve ending inside her body begin to tingle as Kyle slid a hand over her mound and
pressed her c.l.i.t.
"Anniiiiieee..."
"Now, yes, NOW!" she shrieked.
With one last thrust that nearly took her off the table, Kyle came, pumping long and hard into her body,
helped by her own o.r.g.a.s.m which was turning her into a lump of pulsating flesh. She knew her c.u.n.t was
milking him dry and then some.
They fell into each other's arms, content and sated, forgetting for a brief moment that their lives were about to go squarely on the line.
The s.p.a.ce before the temple of the Sun G.o.d was filled with merrymakers who erupted into loud cheers at the sight of the High Priest and his consort.
Annie and Kyle made their way to the front of the balcony, waving and smiling at the people a.s.sembled
below.
Annie had a sudden vision of Great Britain's Royal family as they waved from the front of Buckingham
Palace. There were distinct similarities, although she had to admit she couldn't recall ever seeing one ofthe Royals wearing nothing but a yard or so of white silk around her body. There probably hadn't been a huge bed on the balcony either. There was one here. And it was right behind Annie.Of course, the crowd didn't know that beneath that bed was a rat's nest of gold wire, tangled connections, strange lumps of different metals, and a thin, beaten gold strip leading from the room into a chamber where a bunch of priests were about to invent spinning. As a form of workout, that is.
Annie had to shake her head at the absurdity of it all.Small braziers were burning along the edge of the balcony, adding the fragrance of Huk Gil to theproceedings. Annie had viewed this warily, but Kyle had rea.s.sured her that they'd use a very smallamount. He had seemed to think it would do the same job as the little tranquilizers she'd taken so longago.
Annie had narrowed her eyes, and asked why she couldn't have had a few of Ishkar's beers instead.
Kyle gave her his "look". The one that said "if you want to end up barfing, go right ahead".
Annie had reluctantly approved the Huk Gil.
She was rather glad she had, as she could feel herself relax under the effects of the fumes. Kyle, too, was
smiling now, and seemed much less tense.
Night was fast approaching, and true to form, clouds had formed which were billowing into the darkeningsky.Kyle looked up. "We might get lucky with a storm, Annie. Wouldn't that be terrific?""I don't know. You tell me." Her voice quavered slightly, and Kyle put his arm around her, hugging her close.
The crowd cheered loudly.
"It'll be fine, Annie. The worst that will happen is that it doesn't work and we have to stay here. At least
we'll be together, right?"Annie leaned her head on his shoulder. The crowd cheered even more loudly."Right.""Annie, I love you." Kyle gazed at her with his heart showing in his green eyes."G.o.d, I love you too," she answered.Kyle kissed her tenderly. The crowd was beside itself.Recalled by the noise, Annie pulled back. "Okay coach. It's fourth and down on the five yard line. Time to call the play.""Um, Annie?""What?""I really don't know very much about football."Annie laughed. She couldn't help it, she laughed and laughed. "My G.o.d, you really are the answer to a woman's dreams, aren't you?"The crowd, of course, was going ballistic.Kyle grinned back at her. "Up on the bed, wife. All we have to do is f.u.c.k, and I think we can do that quite well, don't you?"Annie jumped willingly onto the bed and Kyle followed her with a little yip of pleasure. The crowd wet its collective pants.A rumble of thunder sounded, and a hush fell as a flash of lightning crossed the sky."It's going to work Annie, I know it," said Kyle firmly, pulling her body beneath him.Annie was torn between nerves and pa.s.sion. The feel of Kyle's flesh rubbing over hers was distraction enough, without the oncoming storm.
Kyle signaled to his helpers, and Annie heard a soft whirr through the doorway. The peddling had begun.
Within moments, she felt the hairs on her arms standing up, and noticed that Kyle's hair was beginning to
resemble a halo around his head. The static electricity was building.
The silk of their robes crackled as Kyle whipped them off.
He was right. It was working.
Annie's eyes were growing larger as he gazed down into her face. G.o.d she must be terrified, thought Kyle. He sure as h.e.l.l was.
One part of his mind kept saying that the calculations were correct, that the equipment would work, that
it was a sound scientific principle.Another part was screaming, running round in circles and trying to hide under the bed.The Huk Gil had relaxed him just enough to appreciate all these sensations, but the one he appreciated most was the softness of Annie's thighs beneath his. The scent of her arousal mixed with the scent of the
incense made his senses swim.
He'd been deep inside her not an hour before, yet he wanted her again, and again. He couldn't imagine ever not wanting to be inside her. It was a heady feeling.
He raised his b.u.t.tocks and positioned his c.o.c.k at the entrance to her warmth, noting with half an ear that
the whirring had increased and that the condenser under the bed was humming.
The crowd in the square was murmuring now, some watching as Kyle and Annie moved together on the huge bed, others imitating them with their own partners. Groans and sighs permeated the twilight air as lightning continued to flash across the top of Kushuk, and thunder rumbled, louder than before.
Kyle gently slid into Annie.
A soft moan rose from the square.
Little sparkles began to dance along the gold trim around the balcony, making those who were actually paying attention gasp in wonder.
