Chapter 5 A Warrior Who Didn't Exercise Restraint (I)

According to military rules and rewards in the Kingdom of Pingyuan, even the lowest of warriors had the right to redeem high energy crystals with their war spoils.

The military indicated that three credits could be exchanged for a low-energy crystal, ten credits equaled a medium-energy crystal, and 1,000 credits could be swapped for one high-energy crystal. The fact that high-energy crystals were even included in the list of military rewards was more for motivation than anything else.

The reason high-energy crystals were so expensive was because they could be directly absorbed by seven-leaf or higher-level warriors, who could then convert the energy into a pure qi, which did not contradict one's own qi, making daily cultivation easier. For most of the low-level warriors, however, three low-energy crystals provided much more healing power than a medium-energy one, while thirty low-energy crystals were far more useful than a high-energy one.

In other words, high-energy crystals were as useful as low-energy ones on the battlefield, so most regular warriors didn't covet them as prizes. Of course, a typical warrior would never be able to save up to 1,000 credits, a grossly high number.

Who would have imagined that Yang Jiu, a killing machine on the battlefield, had not only reached 1,000 three times over, but also wanted three high-energy crystals at once?

With such a tall order, the military officer in charge of supplies turned Jiu down without even consulting his superiors.

A loser who didn't have qi dared to ask for a high-energy crystal? He was just asking for trouble. Plus, the officer had already sold those high-energy crystals on the black market before the troops left for some pocket money.

"There isn't any! Pick something else!" The supply officer nicknamed "Torture" waved impatiently.

He was a husky and cruel-faced man in his forties. To him, these warriors were the lowest of the low in the Pingyuan hierarchy.

No matter how amazing you were on the battlefield or how many enemies you killed, if you didn't break through to the four-leaf level, you could only be a soldier who did others' bidding.

Jiu's gaze became firm as the crystal sword swiveled from behind his back into his hand, as if it had a life of its own.

"Three high-energy crystals. Please make it fast." Jiu repeated his request as he bounced a bag of ears on the tip of his sword.

The chubby officer raised his eyebrows, his eyes glaring at Jiu. "Hey, I told you already. Are you deaf or something?"

The officer was well-informed of all the military gossip; he knew Jiu wasn't in possession of qi yet and so naturally overlooked him, a mere three-leaf warrior. "I told you there isn't any, okay? I won't give you three farts, got it? What's a loser like you gonna do with high-energy crystals, huh? Shove 'em up your a.s.s?"

As he talked, he started chortling in self-satisfaction, and looked at everyone nearby, proud of his insult. He stroked his chin. "Right? C'mon, you know I'm right!"

Only a few meek soldiers laughed along with him; the rest stayed silent.

The insult may have been directed at Jiu, but the other regular warriors felt the humiliation, too.

"Three high-energy crystals, please." Jiu stepped forward, as if he hadn't heard the mortifying words.

The crystal sword hung beside him, its four-angled tip pointing down. The black bag holding the ears fell to the ground, spilling out a pile of ears.

Some veterans standing nearby felt their eyelids twitch. They backed away slightly. Everyone knew Jiu stood just like this before he attacked on the battlefield. Was he actually going to kill the supply officer, in their own camp?

The supply officer's grin paled as Jiu repeated his words. The position of the down-facing sword also revealed a threat to this five-leaf warrior.

In that moment, he saw a killing qi inside the black-haired man's fathomless eyes. Was he hallucinating? He backed up half a step, then quickly returned to his old spot as if he had been stung.

"What the h.e.l.l is this?" the officer yelled. "You think you're a big deal? Fine, let Master Du teach you a lesson!"

He sounded confident, but his face had turned purple from his weaker stance earlier. "Yeah, you killed more useless soldiers, so you think you're some kind of hero? You know what Qi is?"

Before he stopped talking, he lifted his meaty hand to slam down onto Jiu, the force lifting the hair on Jiu's forehead.

"It's Qi, it's Qi!" The soldiers were amazed by the show. In an instant, the fat and obnoxious supply officer suddenly resembled a G.o.d, grandiose and powerful.

So this officer really was a four-leaf warrior! Most of the soldiers had just started or were about to cultivate their qi, which they considered to be miraculous. Watching the chubby officer's display of qi, their eyes glittered. The few warriors who were practicing the Manual of Warcraft were intently staring at the swirl of wind in the officer's hand.

"Is it the Army Tornado? The most killer move? Did he actually get to five-leaf level already?" the warriors mumbled as they closely watched the officer.

Everyone's shock at seeing a move from the Manual of Warcraft was palpable. They began to fantasize how one day they, too, could turn an imperceptible source of energy from their gut into a tornado of force.

Would super killer Jiu be able to fight the qi? The veterans who were worried about trouble were now busy dissecting the outcome of this battle.

Jiu was a strange one; even though he had a qi-less body, he could still do spectacular sword-fighting, slice away at the enemy as if they were fruit, and slaughter other three-leaf combatants. Could he pull off another win with the supply officer who was using qi?

It may not be possible-actually, it was downright impossible. People shook their heads, having already decided on the outcome of the fight. Qi was too powerful to fight against, after all.

Everyone was thinking this as Jiu stood with his crystal sword; his deep black eyes were still free of any emotion.

Warriors like this supply officer weren't a threat at all, but if he fought them, he wasn't sure he could curb his killing urge. Killing a superior officer was enough to get him punished with the army's law, or tried in a war tribunal that ended with a death sentence.

Of course, Jiu could go on the run, but he would lose a chance to kill for the right reason, which would be a shame, too.

In today's world, other than Pingyuan Kingdom and Luosheng Kingdom, there weren't any major wars. Had he finally found a place to elevate his Qisha, only to give it up . . . ?

While Jiu debated, a big hand, imbued with destructive qi, was heading toward the top of his head.

The supply officer named Du was leering. He saw Jiu as an unranked lower-level warrior. Just the charge of "offending a superior officer and instigating tension" was enough to have him killed.

Jiu looked up suddenly, seeing Du's cruel smile and dismissive look, his mouth turned up with a sunny smile. There was no debate anymore and no need to overthink if there was going to be another chance. Warriors who cultivated Qisha never needed to and shouldn't exercise restraint!
