Ariana's eyes grew wide she couldn't shake a horrible feeling that was growing in the pit of her stomach. "Vasu.... Why didn't you protect my mother? Weren't you her familiar?" Ariana asked cautiously. Vasu smiled sending chills down Ariana's spine. 'The G.o.ddess never instructed me to do so.' Ariana felt like lighting struck her body. She dropped to her knees as her face paled dramatically. "You said you loved her..." She muttered but Vasu ignored her leading question.
'All the other Lumas died doing something selfless... Each one died in a way directly a.s.sociated with their element. I know Rahul's memory was unlocked because of the teacher's attack.... It was similar to his lover's death and he allowed you the ability to defend yourself. Unlike him who died protecting his army and country. The more you bond and earn each Lumas's trust the easier it will be for you to use their powers at will. No more half powers, no more limitations and your own familiars, the ones you have given life too will be able to come out. You won't even need to have us protect you anymore, if all goes well we will be set free from this life and allowed entry into the cycle of reincarnation.'
"Is that what you all want?" Ariana asked softly. Vasu moved in a few inches closer, staring Ariana down. 'We all have our own wishes and want to be able to live as humans again.' He said without even batting an eye. "If I could have summoned a familiar... if I could have pulled out my two familiars then..." Ariana started to say but Vasu shook her head. 'Souls pulled from other worlds will always have a disadvantageous situation. In many cases they will never be able to summon a single magical creature. This results in their death due to ma.s.sive blood loss. The only survivor was your mother but she was physically abducted from your world not soul summoned.'
"My mother was originally abducted from my world? Vasu what do you mean?!" Ariana shouted but Vasu just stared. "VASU?!" She screamed. 'Time is irrelevant for souls... when we finally realize that their was change a decade has gone by.' Vasu replied honestly. 'I know better then anyone. I watched Aayushi give birth and ascend to the throne. I watched Summer become stronger everyday all in preparation.'
"... Are you purposely trying to torture me?" Ariana asked as her eyes started to water. 'No.... I just don't want you to have the same outcome as your mother. I think the more you know about what is going on and why... the more prepared you will be.' Vasu said as he floated down and stood in front of Ariana. "Vasu, how did my mother die?" Ariana asked as her mouth started to grow drier with each word uttered. 'The same way Aayushi died... I abandoned them in their time of need. They were the same, the exact same but so different... they chose someone else... wanted to be with someone else and I had to sit there and watch them be happy as I died a little inside each day. It's funny though, Aayushi had me fooled... she actually betrayed me first. Your mother never tried to play with my feelings but she never made me give up on her either. Aayushi manipulated me... I watched her die... I watched as Summer successful took the throne. She beheaded my father and Aayushi while I stood by and did nothing. I actually felt a little relieved that she died. The child even got what he deserved...'

"Vasu! How could you not save your child?!" Ariana cried as tears started to roll down her cheeks. 'That woman tricked me! She was already pregnant with my father's child! She was the one plotting against me! She wanted her mother and me out of the picture so she could become Queen and allow her child to take the throne! She plotted on a.s.sa.s.sinating Sheena when she left the castle but Miranda... Miranda found out and saved her and the baby.... Aayushi admitted everything... The look she gave me when she told me... laughing like a mad woman was... Horrifying. So I gave her what she wanted. My life was over the moment I walked in on the two of them making love... They thought I was dead but I killed their men, I killed every single one of them in cold blood and then I killed myself. They watched me bleed out, smiling at their victory...'
"Vasu.... You died! You didn't abandon Aayushi." Ariana said as her tears started to flow out faster. 'Yes I did. I could have fought with my father and killed him. I could have given Aayushi what she wanted. I could have raised that child as my own without question but I couldn't handle the betrayal. In my last moments of life Sheena appeared before me... The one girl I unconditionally loved... She gave me a second chance at life but because of my grudges, guilt and anger I became a wandering soul instead of going down into d.a.m.nation. Even now I still feel no love loss for Aayushi but Sheena... My Sheena was so special but I ignored her existence because of fear. Because of my lack of information. Because I couldn't find the will to stand next to her.... As for your mother it was my duty to make sure you do not fall into someone else's trap or plan... I was told to stand by her side and make sure her child was brought into this. So I waited... I feel in love with her over the years. Now I believe in life... I believe in protecting what is important. You deserve to live... that is why my element is life... I am directly channeling the power of the G.o.ddess, no one else can as I am the first she created from a soul.'
"Vasu no more... I can't take anymore... sob... Please no more." Ariana said as she tried to push back her tears with the back of her hands. 'Why? Can you not handle the truth?' Vasu sneered as he started to go back up. Ariana grabbed Vasu mid travel and pressed his body against her chest. "Vasu! Vasu! Vasu!" Ariana cried loudly while Vasu stayed perfectly still, waiting for her to release him. "It must have hurt so much!" Vasu's eyes grew wide as his small body trembled. "You didn't betray anyone! You are a good person!" Ariana continued to cry. Small firefly like tears started to spill out from Vasu's beady eyes. 'You don't know what you're talking about.'
"Vasu I don't blame you!" Ariana yelled out into the air. 'Are... you sure... I was the one who left your mother to die...' Vasu said in a trembling voice. "You must have sacrificed yourself for her! You couldn't stay beside her! You are the reason she gave birth to me! You tried your best, I know you did because she was hidden away when they came for her... So many magical creatures sacrificed themselves to help her summon me! Vasu I will never believe her death was your fault! Never!"
Vasu snuggled into Ariana's embrace and cried along with her. After a while the tears dried up. Vasu moved out of Ariana's embrace and offered a hoof to her. 'Careful I might fall in love with you next.' Vasu said with a small chuckle as he stared at Ariana. While Ariana blushed as she took the hoof into her hand. "I am already in love with a man that I want to spend the rest of my life with but that doesn't mean I don't have s.p.a.ce in my heart for others. I would be honoured if one day you could love me back Vasu. You are an important existence in my life." She said with a gentle smile. Vasu's tail started to wag. 'You'll need to work a little harder for me to take any interest in you.'
Ariana started to laugh. "Deal!" Vasu waited for Ariana to dust off her pajamas before snuggling up in her embrace. 'So you don't hate me?' Vasu asked bluntly. "No Vasu. I don't hate you. If anything I should be thanking you for what you've done for me so far.... but Vasu could you tell me why the G.o.ddess wants me here or what the Lumas's mission is specifically?" She asked hopefully.
'Ariana, there are things that I can not tell you right away but what I can tell you is Gautam Waldemar is one of the keys to unlocking one of your mysteries.' Ariana let out a deep sigh. "So I need to befriend an enemy? Great... Feel like sharing any other hints?" Vasu let out a small chuckle. 'Three key players to unlocking all your mysteries. I will not give you more names though. If I do you will be hunting them down.' Ariana sighed. "I guess you're right..."
When Ariana walked out of the forest she instantly groaned. The sky was already started to become died with hues of pink and orange. She quickly raced back to the dorm and rushed into the room. She swung the door open and saw that the girls were already getting ready for the yoga lesson. "Where have you been?" Talisha asked as she gave Ariana a sly smirk. "I went for a walk and lost track of time." Ariana said in a panic. "Are you still going to be okay to come with us?" Halina asked.
"Yes... ya I think I'll be fine." Ariana answered as she took a quick glance towards the Lumas. Aroha turned her back to her and snuggled against her small family. "Give me a second I will change quickly." Ariana said as she released Vasu and rushed to her closet.
....
"That was a lot harder then what I thought!" Halina shouted as she fanned herself with her hand. "I see why someone would want to do this type of exercise." Talisha said as she elegantly dabbed her face. "I'm so hungry now." Edlyn complained as her stomach growled loudly. "Let's get cleaned up and head up to the mess hall early. I hear there will be something delicious on the menu today." Ariana said with a wink.
To Ariana's surprise the next couple of days had flown by. It was finally their first weekend at the Academy and they had no idea what to do. Ariana had tried her best to get on Gautam Waldemar's good side but every little act or thing she said or did was completely futile. The man was completely disgusted with her very existence. To make matters worse it seemed that her cla.s.smates refused to go near her. She thanked the heavens for have such great room mates but she didn't know if this could keep going on.
First and thirds years were busy talking about their congratulatory party. Every first and third year was expected to attend while the second and forth were given the option to go or not. Edlyn looked over the dresses that her mother's shop had sent over and the girls were incredibly excited. Ariana couldn't help but feel like the moment was bitter sweet. She was excited to let some steam off but the tension between her and the Lumas with the exception of Vasu and Rahul were completely strained.
"I'm so excited! I mean I haven't gone to a party all alone! No parents, no big brothers, just complete freedom! I can hang everything loose!" Halina cheered as she started posing in front of the mirror. 'Do you really think you will be unsupervised?' Honked Ophelia. "m.u.f.fin crumbs... I forgot about you." Halina sighed as her shoulders sagged in defeat. 'How dare you forget about me?!' Ophelia shouted as she flapped her wings. "Wish I could hang loose but I think I would scare the whole school with my charming smile." Talisha said as she flashed a sinister smiling face.
"Ha! You can join the club then! I have been thinking of making t-shirt ya know with a logo and name. Don't know what to call us though but it's not so bad. Having people stare, whisper and often run away. I feel like a total boss." Ariana said with a light chuckle. "As tempting as that sounds, I really do need to keep up appearances for my family's sake." Talisha said as her face instantly changed back to a gentle young lady. "You're good." Edlyn said as she handed her a dark purple dress. "Thank you." Talisha cheerfully said. "And then gag me with a spoon! This will be too hard! It's the weekend! I just wanted to be me, locked away in this room. Pigging out on snacks and reading a good book." Talisha said as she dramatically flopped backwards onto her bed.
"Well if things start to get too tough just come find one of us. We can always find an excuse to leave." Edlyn said as she went back to her corner of the room. "Definitely! Especially if you help me sneak back a couple of plates of food." Halina said with a giant smile. "Screw that! If you are leaving let's sneak into the mess hall and make our own food!" Ariana shouted with a fist pump. "Deal!" Talisha said as she shot up from the bed. The girls started laughing and Ariana could feel all her stress leaving. She had time to figure this out and the first thing she wanted to do was reconcile with the Lumas.
After they got ready Ariana turned to her friends. "Can I have a minute with my familiars?" She asked and Edlyn took the cue to start moving the roommates out. "Take your time." She said as Thor happily nipped at the air. 'Good luck! Good luck aunty!' He said happily before leaving the room. Ariana giggled to herself before she turned to face her Lumas. "Hi." She started of. Her Lumas just stared back. Vasu sighed and floated towards Ariana. He stood beside her proudly. Rahul hissed at Aroha before taking his spot to the left of Ariana. 'Do you know what you are doing?' Aroha asked as she narrowed her gaze at the three.
'Yes! I have chosen to stand next to this young lady.' Rahul answered as he bared his teeth. 'Why? You are the proudest and most loyal Luma. No one can compare to your dedication to our mission but you threw that all away the moment you sided with her!' Aroha yelled as she pointed her stubby wing to Ariana. 'And that is why you should stop and think about Ariana! Is she really that untrustworthy? Is she really going to fulfill any of those monsters desires! No! I have faith in her, as should you.'
'Rahul you are acting insane! Asking us to side is unthinkable!' Aroha shouted again. 'They way you are acting now shows that you already have. You chose the G.o.ddess and not the salvation of humanity. What you want is your old life back but you will never get it back. You will be reborn into a new life forgetting everything... but then again the G.o.ddess could let you keep all your memories then what? Will you be able to live a happy life? Will you not feel guilty? Will you ever forget how you obtained your new life?' Vasu asked.
'Guilty for what? We are just in charge of watching over this child.' Aroha said with a small smirk. 'We are supposed to kill her if she strays!' Vasu shouted causing Aroha and Rahul to calm down. "Aroha..." Ariana said as she walked up to her chibi, blue bird and picked her up. "It's fine." She whispered. Aroha started to flap around but Ariana kept a firm hold on her. She gently pressed her against their chest and embraced her with all she had. 'Why?! Do you not understand that we are here to kill you?!' Aroha said as she struggled against her. "I just need to prove that you don't have too." Ariana whispered causing Aroha to stop moving.
'That is not... how is works.' Aroha answered. "Has everything up until now has it been a lie?" Ariana whispered. 'What?!' Loralei shouted as she jumped down. Ariana looked up and made eye contact with the remaining Lumas. "Have you played with my emotions from the beginning? Always planning different ways to kill me if I didn't behave?" Ariana asked calmly. Davita flew in front of her face and narrowed her gaze. 'How could you think that?!' Davita spat but Ariana shook her head. "What choice do I have? Secrets, lies and betrayal? Do you think I don't have feelings? That I'm some sort of monster?"
Duko jumped down and placed a paw on top of Ariana's foot. 'We've never thought that.' Duko said with a small whine. "How can I believe you?" Ariana asked with a shaky voice. 'Because we haven't killed you.' Aroha replied. Ariana gave her one last hug before releasing her. 'The moment you changed into your blood dragon self should have been your judgement day...' Aroha said as she flapped her tiny wings towards Ariana's bed. "I know." Ariana sighed as she watched Aroha.
'How?!' Aroha shouted causing Ariana to give her a small smile. "It was the only logical thing. I scared people, I killed others. You are working with the G.o.ddess of Creation to lift whatever remorse is holding you down... how could I not piece things together. She created everything, controls everything and to have someone destroy what she gave life too? Why not kill it?"
'No! Ariana you have it all wrong!' Loralei shouted but Ariana had enough of the conversation. She turned her back to them and was heading for the door. "I just wanted to apologize to all of you. I forced you to have free will and went against the G.o.ddess's plan." Ariana said before she looked back at her Lumas. "Whatever happens next just know I won't blame you... I love you all." Then turned her gaze to the door and walked out.
'The choice is yours now.' Vasu said before he followed after Ariana. 'She is right. We made a choice before and encased ourselves along with her. We should have disappeared but we didn't. We allowed our emotions to decide for us back then and after all this time... after all we have seen... can we really have any doubt in this girl's heart and soul? I will never regret the decision I made. Can you say the same?' Rahul said before taking leaps across the air, chasing after Ariana. 'Aroha?' Duko said as his puppy eyes flashed doubt. Aroha sat in silence. 'Let's wait and see.'
