Chapter 53: Testing The Magic
I want to check the new skill that I got before we set the camp. To test the upgraded Lightning Magic, I had everybody took some distance. I don't want them to be angry again if it fails.
The result after simple test, it seems that the type that I can use itself didn't increase. However, the power greatly increased. The thickness as well as the range of the lightning shot type had doubled. Since the number had also increased from one to two, it could be a considerable offensive power up.
Next is the type that spread several lightning from on top of me. Although the lightning was thin, the number had doubled. This would be useful when I got surrounded by many enemies. The power of each of them fall, but I know that their offensive ability as a whole had increased.
Last would be the type that clad my body in lightning. I guess the power of the lightning in itself have increased, as the discharged electric had been a bit more flashier. The part that I was able to cast is still the same, as i can cast them freely anywhere on my body.
With this I won’t have any problems even if I fight with multiple enemies at close range. I'm grateful that I can cover the numerical disadvantages. Incidentally I also had Diabell test her Summon Spirit of Water. Since there's no water here, I prepare some water that I created with magic so that it would be easy to summon. The water then lightly floats in the air, changing its shape.
When I'm thinking what it's going to do, I prepared a moderate flame attack against the thin film of water, the water suddenly hit it like a water cutter. If the other party is a living thing, it can even confine the whole face with water to suffocate them to death. It seems to be a magic that borrows the power of the water maiden called Undine. By the way, water spirits won’t show their appearance at level 1, only borrowing their powers. Undine would only appears once it has reached level 2 while also increasing its offensive abilities.
Still, suffocating an enemy sounds kind of scary. Isn't that quite tremendous? I feel like a human that can't use magic would be killed if this magic is used. By the way since I've seen the Flame Spirit before, I asked her to show the Earth Spirit and Wind Spirit to me but Diabell refused.
"My Lord, if you summon the spirits without any purpose, the spirit won’t answer your call." (Diabell)
So it's like that. Apparently you can't make the summoned spirit to follow you by force unlike other summoning magic, so it is more like a magic that calls the spirit to borrow their power. Although she can't summon the spirit of water for now, it seems that there's no problem with the power even at the lowest rank.
Instead, she told me what kind of spirits she could summon right now. First is the Spirit of the Flame. It's the Will-o-Wisp which is the lowest ranking spirits that could be used as a subst.i.tute for light. Although it should be the Spirit of Light according to my game knowledge, it seems to be treated as the Spirit of the Flame in this world. The next one is the fire lizard called Salamander that she summoned frequently. It’s a pretty excellent one that can spit fire from its mouth.
And then once it reach Level 3 the power and the build of the Salamander had also become stronger. It seems that the power of the flame that it can spit had increased too. And when it finally hit Level 4, She became able to summon a flame giant called Ifrit. Although people tends to misunderstood, Ifrit is not the strongest Spirit of the Flame.
There's another one above it for the flame spirit, standing at the top is the immortal bird wrapped in fire from head to toe called a Phoenix. There's rarely any living person that can call this spirit, and it seems there's no one from the country Diabell came from that were able to summon it.
Next is the Spirit of the Wind. It didn't show up at level 1, but she could borrow the power of the maiden of the wind called Sylph, allowing her to create soft breeze that can be used to send her voice far away. Since the maximum distance is around 100 meters, we wont be able to used it like a cell phone.
The Sylph will appear at Level 2. She could cut the enemies with the blade of wind, and I heard that it could even lift things into the sky if it is light. The power of Sylph that you can summon increased at Level 3. It has increased in magic power.
Lastly is the Spirit of the Earth. It wont appear at Level 1, but she could borrow the power of the spirits that looks like a mole called Gnome. She could turn the soil and bend it like a whip to obstruct the movement of the enemy, and based on the terrain she could even lift and sinks the ground. Right here it seems to be the same as my Earth Magic.
Gnome will materialize at Level 2 and could attack. Wielding sharp claws and fang, it could attacked the enemy and change the ground to some extent.
Once she reach Level 3 she became able to summon a Golem made from the soil. Although it have the weakness of not being usable at the place without soil, I heard that the strength of the Golem is equal to a Silver-rank adventurer. It's a magic that could save us when we have the disadvantage in numbers.
I've learned about various things. Although there are some gaps in my knowledge, it's generally correct.
"Thank you Diabell. I've learned a lot of things." (Est)
"If there's anything that My Lord wants to learn, you can ask me anything. I'll tell you all that I know. If you like… want me to tell you how many moles I have on my body?" (Diabell)
"Did you say something?" (Claire)
My cheeks were about to melt by Diabell's unnatural tempting behavior, but a piercing cold glare from Claire who asked me from my side make me returned to sanity instantly. Even though it's Diabell who's tempting me, why are you glaring at me instead? My dirty thoughts only appeared for a moment you know? I averted my eyes away from Claire awkwardly, like when your mother caught you masturbating.
[T.N: I didn't make this up, author did put it that way.]
I soothed my heart and prepared for camping. The surroundings are completely covered with earth wall to prevent enemy invasion, and I also prepared the meal and bath. The lookout order is Claire and me, Diabell and me, and then Claire and Diabell. Since staying up all night might be impossible for Shallie who is still a child, I'll let her off. Sleeping is also a children's duty.
I create a flame magic that maximized the duration, warming the body as a subst.i.tute for the open-air fire. So that Claire and I won’t wake up the sleeping people while we keep watch, we talked in whispers. Things like my impression for the battle when we entered this dungeon, or just funny stories that are not related. The topics for conversation didn't run out.
"After I met Master, there's too many things happening that I won’t get bored everyday." (Claire)
She smiled while saying that. Her expression is crystal clear, showing that the words are straight from her heart. Although various things happened after I met her, this might be the first time that I get to see this gentle smile.
"You decided to follow me, did you ever regret it?" (Est)
"No way. I am truly grateful to Master you know? You take good care of me after saving me, I was able to be Shallie's sister, and I was even able to make friends with Diabell even though we occasionally fought. The fact that I can become a Gold-rank adventurer, I've never thought about it even in my dreams." (Claire)
Claire is really a good girl. Her gentle heart worrying about others is different from me. For a twisted person like me, it's really refreshing. Although she said the she was saved by me, I was also saved by her. In this world without any acquaintance, Claire had supported me who doesn't know the left and right. The me who's not really good with words tried to said my thanks again, I instinctively hold Claire's shoulder who sat beside me.
"Thank you Claire. The hard works really paid off hearing you said that. Please support me from now on too." (Est)
Although Claire had a bright red face being surprised having her shoulder held, she looked at me and laughed with a smile.
"Yes, of course. Because I'm going to serve Master for the rest of my life." (Claire)
For us, a gentle flame lighted up indefinitely.
