Virat shook his head and let out a mirthless laughter.
As if unaffected by Sanvi's words, he continued telling. " Then, when I saw her perform at our Fresher's Day, I was blown over by her delicate dance moves, especially her smile-filled expressions made me want her even more."
'Dance! Dance! Dance! Arghh!' Sanvi was complaining inwardly. But she didn't let that show on her face and remained calm and expressionless like before.
Virat continued speaking unknowing of what was going on in Sanvi's mind. "I decided to make my first move. I went up to her and complimented about her performance. But Maya wasn't carried away by that. She very politely thanked me and left. I thought, 'She's very interesting.' I realised she wasn't easy to please with just that one interaction." Virat explained.
Sanvi was lost deep in thought. All this information was too much to process for her.
Virat continued narrating. Sanvi snapped out of her thoughts and paid full attention to what he was telling.
"By then even you were friends with Maya, I'm sure even you realised Maya was not the kind of girl who'd fall for anyone easily. In fact to be very precise, she hated men. It was indeed a difficult task to make her fall for me. But since I was determined to win the dare my friends had given me, I never wanted to give up. I played the 'I'm head over heels in love with you' card on her, which surprisingly didn't work on her."
Virat momentarily paused and took a sip of his drink and continued to stare at the gla.s.s. "And then you know what Sanvi, one day Maya herself directly spoke to me, 'Virat please don't harbour unnecessary feelings for me. I can never return your feelings. I can never ever let a man in my life. I'm very happy in this small world of mine. I don't want you to hurt yourself because of me. You are a wonderful person, I'm sure you'll get the best girl.' She said all of that in one go and was about to leave."
"I didn't bother much since this is something every girl tries to come up with as an explanation to reject a man. Just as she was about to walk away, I caught her by her wrist and tried using the sympathy card on her now." Virat was totally lost in the memories of their past.
He automatically took Sanvi's hand, tried to recreate that day. Looking into her eyes he said, "I very well remember everything which happened that day, I inched closer to her while she walked backward." Here too, Sanvi unconsciously shifted backward.
"V-V-Virat what are you trying to do? I think we better sleep now. Let's talk tomorrow." Sanvi stuttered and asked him weakly.
"Sssh!" Virat pressed his index finger over his lip. He looked into Sanvi's almond eyes, "My jet black eyes filled with tears looked into her deep chocolate brown eyes and said 'I love you.' I could feel her trying to wriggle her wrist free. Just like how you are doing now." He pointed at the way Sanvi was helplessly trying to free her hand.
Sanvi bit her lower lip and hung her head low. She stopped protesting.
