Sanvi's heart began racing on hearing the word "confess."
"Confess?" Sanvi pretended to remain unperturbed by Virat's "confess."
Virat took a sip of his drink and slowly said, "I don't deserve Maya!"
Sanvi didn't know how to react. She was momentarily taken aback. "D-Don't deserve Maya? What are you blurting out Virat? I definitely know how much you love and treasure Maya. What's with this "I don't deserve Maya?" She poked her two index fingers together.
"That's how you think. That's how Maya thinks. But that's not what it's supposed to be Sanvi. I really don't deserve Maya." Virat gloomily declared to Sanvi.
Sanvi took in a long breath and said, "Virat, I really don't get you."
"Sanvi, my love for Maya was all a lie. That's the exact reason why I'm feeling so guilty now after having lost her. That's also why I'm frantically searching for her everywhere like a madman! The moment I find her, I want to confess everything to her and start over everything truly all over again. Above all, I did this to her in spite of knowing her dark past." Virat was choking on his words.
"What do you mean by her dark past?" Sanvi was even more puzzled now.
"Well, I think it wouldn't be right on my part to tell that to you Sanvi. Instead I'll tell you what I did to her." Virat was unable to look at Sanvi. He hung his head low and kept staring at the gla.s.s in front of him.
"I'm all ears. Go on." Sanvi replied quite puzzled by the way this conversation was heading.
"Let's go back to our first day of college. I'd just then parked my bike at the parking lot and was walking towards our cla.s.s when I met many of my other friends. We were casually talking and poking fun at everyone pa.s.sing by." Virat began telling.
"I was the kind of guy who was never serious about life. I never believed in love, feelings, emotions. All that never mattered to me. All I wanted to do was live life to the fullest, have fun. I even loved taking up challenges and doing dares for fun. My friends knew this quality of mine. So, they all proposed a dare to me, which was to make the next girl who'd walk into the campus to fall in love with me." Virat said.
"What nonsense Virat? Who'd do such such a dare? Playing with the emotions of a girl? All for a dare?" Sanvi retorted.
"That's the exact reason why I'm feeling so guilty Sanvi. Because, the next girl to walk in was Maya…." His face turned gloomier.
" I still remember that day when I first saw her. She was wearing a white dress. Her hair swayed and danced along with the wind. She walked so gracefully that even the gra.s.s above which she walked fell in love with her feet on them. Her chocolate brown eyes twinkled with confidence as she was walking. But beyond all, what attracted me the most was her delicately placed nose ring. It exuded an aura that could captivate anyone. She wasn't doing a thing, just walking, yet I was already l.u.s.ting over her."
"I uttered loud and clear to my friends, 'Such a gorgeous girl who literally looks like she has been dropped from heaven has to definitely be my girlfriend. Dare accepted! It's just a matter of time for her to be mine!' I didn't think about anything beyond that."
Sanvi's eyes widened, her jaws dropped with disbelief written all over her face.
Virat didn't look at Sanvi. He continued. "Yes, you heard it right! Not love, l.u.s.t! More than love, I began to l.u.s.t over her. I wanted to have her by hook or by crook."
