Reunion Part 2

———— “Spirit Princess”

Is a t.i.tle given by the “Spirit Queen“, an existance which is special for the spirits and the one who rules over them, and once every three years a celestial gathering is held to choose a maiden to offer her prayers and swear loyalty.

Of course male spirit users are excluded in the selection and only maidens who aren’t married yet are candidates.

It is held at the deepest part of the country in the north called “Sacred Spirit Bell Forest“. In the deepest part of the forest, it is said that the first king of the Naft Kingdom presented the Spirit Queen a Spirit Bell. It has been in the culture of the country that a representative is chosen to ring the bell in the presence of the Spirit Queen during the ceremony.

And being chosen as the Spirit Princess is an honor (troublesome).

“But why is….. is it me…….!? A Spirit Princess is supposedly chosen from a lady in n.o.bility and picked by a high priest from the church right…..?”

“The priest from the church wasn’t able to find one this year. Besides, status isn’t related on being a spirit user right? Well, it’s true that the one usually chosen came from a n.o.ble family. This time the “Spirit Church” has chosen you. I don’t the reason but that alone is a fact.”

The “Spirit Church” from the kingdom holds political power and authority among the royalty and the n.o.ble society in the country. Among those who possessed “spirit mana” are judged by the church, and it will be them to recognize one as a “Spirit User“.

Last year, the master sent an application to the church (without my knowledge), and then a personnel from the church came to our home. Various tests and observations are conducted and then I was recognized as a Spirit User.

Spirit Mana level, etiquette, living att.i.tude, personality, social status.

Considering every aspect of a candidate, the Spirit Church carefully chooses a Spirit Princess.

Incidentally, last time, a daughter from a count household was chosen said to possess high spiritual mana and a beauty that said to be the most beautiful in the country’s history. And before that, a beautiful priestess was chosen by the church. The two of them has conducted their roles splendidly that garnered admiration among the citizens and was pa.s.sed down every now and then.

Among them, they chose me who’s spiritial mana, beauty and ability are not worthy of.

Something like this…… is kind of a shame.

“And an official announcement has been already issued.”

The doc.u.ment page that master held, a long content was written and the words “Spirit Princess Suria Varette Announcement“, was spelled out clearly. Since a seal with a mark of bell has been stamped, then it’s an official doc.u.ment.

I want to get rid of it.

“Just obediently accept it Suria. Why do you insist that you’re not worthy of it? Just being recognized as a spirit user will gain everyone’s admiration, you shouldn’t waste such opportunity that everyone is yearning for.”

“T, That might be how they see it but…..”

“Doing the task they had given to you will also be rewarded by the country. More than anything,mit is already an honor to be in the presence of the Spirit Queen. I’m already proud of it having you born here, a splendid spirit user in my land.”

While lowering his head and shrugging his shoulders, the master floated a gentle smile.

“Besides, I believe that you are qualified and met the conditions worthy of being called a Spirit Princess.”

“Neither I have beauty or elegance wonthy such!?”

“Such things only comes next. What’s important is “the bond and relationship you have with the spirits“. You have made such a good relationship with the spirit. That alone is enough…….. That being said, why don’t we leave the details of the story next time and discussions with the spirits. Let’s take a break and have some tea and sweets. Now, please summon your partner out.”

The master then stood up suddenly, changed his eyes like to that of a child and went to me trotting full of smiles.

That partner being Uor. Master is revered to as “Spirit Lover” by everyone, but since his spiritual mana is not enough to communicate with spirit, he borrows the essence of other spirits via a spirit user.

Normally, spirits are not visible to people who do not posses spiritual mana, even their voices can’t be heard. But with spirit user’s power, it is possible to make someone without spiritual mana to communicate with a spirit for a certain period pf time.

I muttered the words, “As I thought, it’ll come to this again.” and took master’s big hands gently. At the same time, I focused my spiritual mana to flow into master.

Seeing these actions from an outsiders perspective might cause some misunderstandings, that’s why I kind of don’t want to do it but since it’s a request from the master. I can’t voice any complaints.

Well, there’s another reason why I don’t want to do this.

Everytime I do this, I always remember something from the past.

“Hey Reiss. You’re reading a something difficult again. What kind of book is it?”

“…….It’s about the spirits. I heard that there are a lot of spirits residing in this country.”

“Do Reiss wish to see the spirits?”

“If it’s possible. But, it seems that it’s not possible for everyone. I’m originally not born from this country and it seems like I do not possess any spiritual mana or a catalyst, so it’s going to be difficult. But if I borrow a spirit user’s power, like the one I saw on a book……”

“What can I do?”

I asked Reiss while peeking on a page of  the book he had beside him under the shelter. Long before I was aware that I harboured feelings of love to Reiss, I used to aggressively approach Reiss and just being able to talk to him would already please me. 

Just being illuminated by a little sunlight, his black hair would flutter and sparkle.

I remember muttering words to him in the past.

“If you touch a person with a spiritual mana……”

“Like this?”

“Eh!? Hey!”

I heard that my grandmother was a spirit user. It might be I also possess the same ability……… While thinking without anything deep, Reiss shook his still littl hands violently that I was grasping, he seemed to be embarrased. Since it was still those times that we’re unaware of the thing called love.

He seemed to be not used to be in contact with other people. He looked terribly desperate and I bursted out laughing, he then frowned his eyebrows and made a sulking look.

………But I was still grasping his hands. Far from shaking it off, contrary to that sullen face, the warmth while holding his hands gave me happiness.

I really thought that one day I could show him the spirits.

———— I never imagined that it would become a story that I rushed into him while crying and blowing a punch at his chest.

It’s really saddening to remember those events that I hid on the back of my memories.

While painfully reminiscing such terrible memories, the temporary transfer of spiritual mana to the master is finally done.

I let go of my hands gently.
