The only thing that a person never tires of is his own person. Family and friends are just words. This was funny to see how the great ones of this world let their family on Earth by fleeing alone from the Great Waters and heading for Mars believing that there, he could survive a few more years.
It will now be more than six years since the Mars colonies have stopped emitting signals.
Hector, with his 21 years, had seen with his own eyes through a telescope, the lights of the cities of Mars going out one by one. He had surprised himself by being satisfied with this. He was not s.a.d.i.s.tic, however, but the cowardice of this chief of state, the rich families and all those other notaries and state officials who had abandoned more than just a house was awful and pathetic. When he saw all these lights disappearing, he was filled with adrenaline and joy. Perhaps it was because Chloe, her late girlfriend who died of cancer at the age of 19, had been abandoned by her family and leave alone her daughter on Earth before being found by Noah, the leader of the Resistance, eating berries and rodents in a forest that once belonged to a country called America. She had been adopted by a married couple whose wives were barren, and that's when Hector first saw her charming smile, and that he falls in love.
The young man had done everything he could to help the survivors of his group. Go to places subject to strong radiation; hunt what was left of animals on earth; fighting other groups of survivors seeking to loot, as well as many other small daily tasks. But he had eventually contracted several cancers and a deterioration of his internal organs forced him to drink a lot of water and take whole packets of pills in a single day.
The physical and psychological pain he had endured since his parents died, and then his girlfriend, was something only him could endure, but even today, his mind and body could no longer do what his brain wanted to do.
His reflection on the mirror looks only like a walking corpse, his slight mat skin was now a pale whitish skin, his green eyes have deep dark circles and his face expressed an omnipresent pain that he could hardly hide.
It was after several months of suffering that a decision was taken by the Resistance headquarters. Given Hector's living conditions and the fact that his death was fast approaching, he was going to have the right to what was called a Transfer. A treatment that only a few people had experienced. It was a kind of honorable mention. He hesitated to accept, but everyone wanted him to live a better life after all he had done.
For him, things were not so simple, but he could only accept, death was all around him and all the pain he felt, would finally calm down and leave him in peace.
The Resistance had access to old technologies, which allowed them to mix this technology with the new one in an underground hospital create for this purpose. The room in which the young man was standing was immaculate with a comforting white light. In contrast, the table on which he was lying, looked like the one of a horror movie. He was tied up in a comfortable foam to prevent the Transfer from failing. The few people in the room had given him a mixture of plants and drugs so that he could be in a trance.
"I know you're in a trance, but I also know you can hear us… we'll send you there, Hector." began Noah with a sad look and a comforting smile. "You don't have to worry anymore, the others and I will take care of the rest and save everything we can, as we always do. " he paused, looked at the other members present for the Transfer and resumed. "I don't know where the Transfer is going to send you, maybe in any dimension, but at the point where you are, I think that for you, any dimension would be better…" he seemed to think about something before he scratched his head. "It might hurt a little at first, but it's essential to separate your body from your mind and soul. Once we isolate them, we'll try to link you to an ent.i.ty, probably a demon, unfortunately…"
"Why a demon?! That's not what I wish him! He doesn't deserve that," exclaimed a woman. Even in a trance, he could recognize her, Chloe's mother.
"Yes… I know, Ana…" he replied with a serious look. "But these are the only remaining spirits that are not part of any dimension… In other words, they can easily change dimensions. However, they would like to come back to touch the dirt, like everyone else… So… I think they gonna fight to have the soul of Hector…"
"An another fight?" she replied with anger.
"He gonna won, I know it, one last time, one last fight." after a moment, Noé closed his eyes and put on gloves. "Let's start the operation."
Ana was probably the saddest of all, she had ended up taking Hector as her own son after her daughter's death and now, she had to do the mourn of one of her children again. Everything was complicated. Everything.
And before a needle stuck in the back of the skull of Hector and made him faint, he saw Ana's face one last time, tears in her eyes and who, with difficulty, wished him the best.
After a while, Hector found himself in a black tunnel, the end of which was lit by a soft light, he could not resist going towards her, a force pushed him there. His bound soul and spirit flew at high speed through a luminous ocean that seemed infinite. Around him, b.a.l.l.s of black smoke struck violently against each other without making a single noise. It probably lasted a long time, but no one will ever know. Everything finally calmed down before the remaining ball of black smoke rushed towards Hector and stuck to him in a leaden silence. Hector's drift lasted a long time, but after a while, the boy's soul and mind were as if sucked into a black breach that pierced the bright sea in which he had been swimming for an indeterminate period of time. Hector with his soul, touched the breach and made him seem like he was throwing intensely through a waterfall.
Leaning against a house wall, the body of a young man with black hair with red highlights, whose blood was escaping from his throat, began to move slightly again.
He opened his eyes with difficulty, opened his mouth.
Breathed air in a great effort, coughed and looked at his hand full of blood. Despite this, the pain in his throat was nothing. He had been in pain for so long that it was only a scratch for him, despite the severity of the injury.
With tears in his eyes, he lowered his head and opened his lips to say his first words in this world.
"Thank you."
