Chapter 6: Those long years and the Power of Silence
"It's a similar feeling and environment. This sensation of the lightness- so light that one could float in the air, a feeling of tranquillity and the environment filled with darkness all around wherever my eyes could reach. No doubt, I am dead again."
"Next moment, A beam of light will appear. Then my soul will slowly float towards the light. After that, I will enter into the cycle of birth."
Carter closed his eyes since it made no difference in this darkness. He felt like he was floating in the air. Something was pulling him. There was a slight smile in his face.
"Even though that explosion killed me, I have no regrets. From the start, I knew I was on a one-way path. Even if that explosion didn't kill me, I had already decided at a point I was gonna kill myself."
"15 years! I spent 15 years on this path. That got me very exhausted and worn out. I gave away those many years of my life to pave a better path for humanity, and to let them see a bright future. I spent those long years to plan, a.s.sa.s.sinate and to sow the seeds of brightness."
"With that girl being dead, Even if the apocalypse still arrived, humanity wouldn't be as weak as they were. They would be much stronger."
"This time human would be more prepared to fight against those beings who consider themselves to be above us. Human's won't be a slave to those being. And maybe there would be a chance that in the battle, we, Humans, would be able to win."
Carter sighed softly, "But I won't be able to be here to see that day. It's a pity that I won't get to see those rascals disciples of mine."
Carter felt joy and happiness when he remembered his four disciples. "Well, I don't need to worry about them since they have grown up. They were already powerful by the time I left. They should have reached a higher stage by now. I have taught them all the knowledge I possessed and also hinted them of possible future events that are gonna transpire."
"They were already amazing people in my last life. In this life, I have done nothing but matured them early. They are the seeds I have sowed for a better future."
"Seeds for a better future" Carter then opened his eyes. A fire was burning in his eyes, "Yes, we both sowed the seeds. You sowed for destruction while I sowed for prosperity. You sowed to bring betrayal and deception and to spread the flames of wars while I sowed for trust, peace and to unite all humans. Let's see who will be successful, whose seeds will bring forth the change and hopes we dreamed."
"While I a.s.sa.s.sinated all your seeds of darkness in our territory, I know you have other seeds on other places. I wanted to slay those too, but, I know it's not possible."
Carter could see the beam of light descending slowly onto him. "Looks like my time is up. I believe that hope I worked so hard for will light up the hearts of people on the days of darkness to come. That's all, I hope. That's all, I hope."
Even after that beam of light came, Carter could see the surrounding was still dark. Carter noticed his hands and legs had brunt marks and wounds. He moved his hands and felt his face and found there were some brunt marks, injuries and his old scars.
"I have seen worse."
Carter could imagine he looked horrid. But Carter didn't let that bother him and ignored them.
This situation was no surprise for Carter as he had already experienced before. Carter ignored those injuries. Carter knew when one died his soul would take the virtual shape of his physical body at the moment of death, so his body was like that. Those were the result of the explosion Carter faced before he died.
Carter smiled as his body floated towards the light. Carter knew he was soon going to lose consciousness, forget everything and enter in the cycle of birth. But there was no sorrow in his eyes, only hope, and belief.
Carter slowly floated and reached the end. However, as Carter reached the end of the light, he became surprised. It was different from the last time.
Last time, as soon as he reached the end of the light, he immediately lost his consciousness. However, this time he saw a door. There was nothing extraordinary about that door. It was just a simple, ordinary silver-colored door surrounded by white light.
"Is this a new process one needs to face after he dies? Did they change the old process to the new one?"
Carter became confused. Next moment, he stretched out his hands to reach the door's handle, even though the situation was unusual.
"I am already dead, so what worse could happen to me?"
As he pulled the door and saw what's inside, he became stunned as his eyes grew wide. He froze for a moment as he believed for a second that his eyes had played a trick on him.
Then, he entered inside with a bit of curiosity and fear.
After entering inside, Carter saw a room. The walls and ceiling of the room were white colored. There was a long, milk colored table at the center of the room with only two chairs facing opposite to each other placed at the end. There was nothing on the top of the table.
"Welcome."
As he walked towards the table, Carter heard a sound. Carter saw a blurry figure sitting on a chair at one end. It was as if something was preventing him from seeing the actual appearance of that person. Though the figure was not clear, Carter still knew that figure was of a man from the sound. But he couldn't figure out the age of that man.
There were hundreds on the question on his mind, but he didn't ask. He somehow knew he was going to get all the answers. He was getting a strange, and mysterious yet gentle and trustworthy feeling.
He looked at the blurry figure waiting for him to say something, yet nothing came out of that blurry person.
"Sit down."
After a moment, another sound came. Carter again listened carefully to see if he could get some clues. But Carter found the sound was nothing special yet felt relaxing. Carter sat down in the chair placed at another end of the table.
Carter found that the table was smooth, so smooth that he could see his face. As Carter saw his reflected image, he noticed it didn't have any injuries or scars. His image looked a bit younger and handsome. He then removed his gaze from the table and looked at his body carefully. His hands and legs, which was full of wounds, were like they were healed.
Carter became surprised, but only for a moment. He soon collected his emotions and looked at the man opposite him. The distance between them was around 5 or 6 meters.
"Why do you want to die?" The man asked.
Hearing the question, Carter looked at the man. Carter felt that man was mysterious. However, Carter soon realized something. Then he asked, "Am I not dead?"
The man answered, "No.."
Carter muttered, "I didn't die. That doesn't make sense. Then those scenes before and also, I am sure this is not my physical form….."
With countless thoughts running in his mind, Carter looked at the man. He opened his mouth to ask where was he if he wasn't dead and other questions, however, the man asked before Carter could get any chance, "Why do you want to die?"
Hearing the question, Carter became silent. A sad look could be seen in his face as he began to thought.
'Because I have spent a very long time for humanity and I have grown weary and tired of it. I don't think I can live with additional burdens. When that dark period arrives, I don't think I could save all the people. Even if one died, it would nevertheless make me feel regret and sorrow…" Carter wanted to answer his thoughts. He really wanted to open himself to this mysterious man, but Carter wasn't sure if he could trust that man.
Carter was suspicious if this mysterious man was a superior being. Carter knew there exists of those beings with unique, power and abilities.
Thus, Carter decided not to open himself up until he was sure. He chose to answer him indirectly.
"I have grown tired." Answered Carter as he looked at that man.
After Carter answered, the mysterious man went silent.
"Are you afraid of that?" A moment later, the mysterious man asked again.
'That?' Carter wasn't sure if the mysterious man's 'that' meant the disaster about to come or something else. 'No, that's not possible! But wait! Maybe he is also just like me, or maybe he can see the future or he has similar powers….'
'That's not important now.' Carter thought as he shook his head.
Carter began to think of answer the man asked. It looked it there was time and time only as the man gave him plenty of time to answer.
'Yes, I am afraid of those dark times where we were slaves, needed to survive on other fleshes, drink other blood to quench our thirst and couldn't even get a good sleep. Yes, I am running away from those times. I don't want to be in that situation. Haa! I am not afraid of a disaster to come but the aftermath. I have done all the things I am capable of for a better future, but I don't dare to face those times again. I am truly afraid.'
Carter sighed softly as he answered, "Yes, I am afraid."
"But I am not a coward" Carter added, "I am not afraid of effect but the consequence."
Carter stopped for a moment and continued with a sarcastic tone, "and I want death to run away from those."
'I have done all I could. I believe the reason I was sent back was to help humanity to tackle that. And I have done that. So, there's no reason for me to be there."
Carter hesitated and asked, "Tell me what am I doing is correct. Tell me!"
The man didn't reply. Carter looked at that man and waited for an answer.
However, There was only silence.
But to Carter, Silence carried a profound meaning.
Words are powerful. For instance, if one said lemon, then others would start salivating. If one began to curse, others would feel angry. Words have a profound effect on a person. And every word has its consequences.
To Carter, The reply "Yes" or "No" didn't matter. Regardless of the answer, Carter wouldn't live to see those dark times. It was like trauma to him. He would rather die to face that.
But sometimes, Silence has consequences too. It can be more powerful than words.
"Tell me! Say something." shouted Carter angrily with tears in his eyes, "You! What do you know? You don't know even a s.h.i.t! You think I am a coward. You would be the same as me if you had to face those f.u.c.king dark times."
Carter stood up from the chair and continued as more tears flowed from his eyes and rage build up, "I was forced to eat fleshes of my friends, brothers, and parents. I drank their blood. To stay alive for a long time, to survive. I couldn't even get a minute of sleep. I had to run continuously, and once I get caught, they would torture us and f.u.c.king laugh. I could even now hear those laugh. That's why even now when I meet those, I couldn't move my legs. My whole body freezes…"
Carter started gasping for a breathe. He paid no attention to those tears. It would correct to say that he didn't even notice those tears.
Carter, in rage, didn't even notice that he felt more relaxed and peaceful on the inside.
Carter's face was red, and his body was burning. After taking a breath, he continued as he gazed strongly at that man, "Now, answer me. Am I right or wrong?"
