He realized this wasn’t one of the horses from home.

The horses at home weren’t this tall, nor this imposing.

Standing before the Black Wind King, Little Jing Kong looked like a tiny, tiny spore gazing up at a towering tree, exclaiming with heartfelt awe, “Wow!”

He marveled at the Black Wind King, while the Black Wind King curiously observed him in return.

After a moment, the Black Wind King took two steps forward to sniff the scent on him.

Just like it had sniffed the red-ta.s.seled spear in the backyard before.

“It likes you.” Gu Jiao said to Little Jing Kong. “It doesn’t have a name yet. Do you want to give it one?”

The horse king instantly perked up with morale!

A little brother! It has a little brother now!

Little Jing Kong tilted his head and said, “Big Boss!”

The horse king’s face immediately fell.

Xiao Heng reached out his hand to Gu Jiao, helping her dismount from the Black Wind King.

Xiao Heng looked at the Black Wind King with a deep gaze, “So this is…”

Gu Jiao nodded, “It is.”

Little Jing Kong happily led the two horses into the Imperial Advisor's Hall.

Xiao Heng watched the Black Wind King’s retreating figure and said, “It’s been fasting for too long. It seems a bit weak. Are you sure it’s fine?”

Gu Jiao watched the Black Wind King silently walking through the dark night and firmly replied, “I believe in it.”

Many partic.i.p.ants had gathered, including not only the children of n.o.ble families but also several students from humble backgrounds who held recommendation letters. Most of these letters came from academies in Shengdu or various government offices.

The preliminary selection would eliminate the majority of candidates, but it was highly unlikely that it would include the descendants of the top ten n.o.ble families or the Nangong Family.

First, the family background was a significant consideration. Second, the children selected by these families were indeed extraordinary.

The last person remaining on the platform would advance to the next stage.

Gu Changqing was number six.

Although his horse wasn’t a Black Wind Cavalry horse, it was still extraordinarily brave and fierce.

Combined with his powerful internal force, he could stabilize his mount using his martial strength when needed.

The other three partic.i.p.ants were all formidable experts, two of whom had spent a considerable sum to borrow Black Wind Cavalry horses from the Han Family.

While most partic.i.p.ants faced a standard challenge in the preliminary round, Gu Jiao was thrown straight into “h.e.l.l mode.”

Gu Jiao felt a headache coming on.

Han Che, standing at the starting line of the first track, arrogantly remarked, “Is the last person not coming? How much longer must we wait? I suppose they’re scared and planning to forfeit. Han Che sneered, “Overestimating yourself!”

The Black Wind Cavalry horse Han Che chose was the fiercest of its kind, aside from the new Black Wind King. This challenge was nothing compared to his usual training.

Victory was certain!

Just as his thoughts shifted, he suddenly felt his mount move a few steps on its own, without any command from him.

The Feng Family expert’s warhorse also took a few steps.

The other two Black Wind Cavalry horses seemed restless as well, moving uneasily.

“Stop spooking my horse!” The Feng Family expert snapped at Han Che.

Han Che responded irritably, “If you’re afraid of being scared, stay away from me!"

He even suspected that it was the Feng Family expert’s internal force that startled his horse!

The horses’ agitation grew more p.r.o.nounced.
