Long Xi had no time to think, and she quickly threw the dozen of dry branches that she was carrying towards the fierce golden eagle.
The fast-moving golden eagle evaded those instantly.
It adjusted its tail feathers and did a spin before landing on a slightly thicker branch very steadily. It had a burning gaze, signaling that it was not going to give up on its prey so easily.
Long Xi ran over to take a look at the snow leopard. It was lying on the ground and panting. The attack caused its skin to be covered in blood, but the beauty of its fur was still very prominent.
Although Long Xi pitied the snow leopard and had medicine that could stop the bleeding, she dared not approach it.
After all, it was a fierce beast! It could eat her up when angered, unlike a small hare or kitten.
While she was hesitating, the golden eagle leaped onto a branch of a tall tree, bounced off with its sharp claws, and pounced towards Long Xi's hand, piercing it with its sharp beak.
"Ah..." Long Xi felt a sharp pain and bright red blood started flowing out of her snow-white hand.
The piercing sound of eagles' hawk filled the air.
Long Xi lifted her head and looked towards the tall trees. There were numerous shadows of birds flapping their wings on the thick branches. Her tiny mouth became wide-opened as it formed an O-shape.
There were a total of four golden eagles on the trees surrounding her. There were one big eagle and three small ones. They were probably a family that comprised of one mother and three children.
It was the first time Long Xi had seen this kind of bird in real life. Their feathers were glamorous, their flying posture was elegant, and their attack was strong.
In all fairness, there was nothing wrong in them attacking the snow leopard. They were just hungry and craving for meat.
Currently, their gaze was all fixated on the snow leopard in front of Long Xi. She could tell from the ready-to-go atmosphere that she and the snow leopard were in a state of embattlement.
Long Xi could feel an obvious increase in the cold sweat on her body. She stopped staring at the eagles and set her mind on escaping with the snow leopard.
The big eagle that attacked Long Xi first had two white feathers. It flew up into the blue sky and after spinning a round, it looked for a good angle before swooping down from mid-air and hitting the same spot on Long Xi's hand accurately with its sharp beak. The wound started bleeding uncontrollably from the second attack.
Long Xi had no time to think about this heart-wrenching pain. She quickly picked up a big rock and threw it at the big eagle. The eagle was not going to let her win; it fought back by biting her at the side of her neck.
"Uh..." Long Xi bit onto her lips and blocked off its attack with a rock.
The three little eagles learned from their mother and flew towards Long Xi and attacked her as if she was their prey.
In that instant, she felt death breathing down her neck!
"Should I escape now?"
However, because of her kind and empathetic heart, Long Xi was already determined to save that snow leopard that she had just met.
There was something strange about the snow leopard. It could have run away amidst the chaos, but it continued to stay frozen on the ground. Could it have injured its leg and could not run away?
The four fierce eagles formed a team and helped each other to attack her. The best descriptors of the current situation would be 'being scared by the eagles' screams' and 'trapped'.
At this critical juncture, her life-saver Mo Kun appeared again while stepping on a colorful rainbow.
He threw a fireball from his hand toward the eagles.
The beasts were born to be scared of fires. Instantly, the four eagles retreated. However, they flew onto a higher branch and kept their eyes on them. Once they found a loophole, they would scoop down immediately.
Long Xi was very grateful to Mo Kun. "Thank G.o.d you're here!"
Mo Kun frowned. "Didn't I tell you not to wander off? I was only gone for a little while and you got yourself into such big trouble! You can't even take care of yourself and yet you want to be a hero!"
Long Xi stuck out her tongue cutely.
She took out the Yunnan white ointment that she was carrying and wanted to apply some for the snow leopard. However, she became scared after her eyes met its amber-colored eyes and faint gaze.
The snow leopard opened his mouth and made growled in a low voice, as if trying to say, "Go away quickly! Leave me alone! Get out of here now!"
Long Xi could not help but feel wronged. "I'm just being nice to you, why are you not appreciating it?"
Mo Kun said to the snow leopard, "Don't move, we are trying to save you!"
The snow leopard immediately shut its mouth obediently, like a giant cat. However, it had a melancholic expression as it closed its eyes.
Long Xi said to Mo Kun, "I'll clean its wound first."
Mo Kun shrugged his shoulders as he had no opinions against that.
She attempted to carry the snow leopard. Obviously, it did not budge. It did not even bat an eyelid.
However, Long Xi stopped dead in her tracks.
She was surprised to see that the snow leopard was covering a smaller snow leopard that had beautiful brown spots.
So it turned out that... it was protecting the corpse of its own kind... no wonder it was not willing to leave!
The snow leopard on the ground was lying on its back and it was obviously dead. Taking a closer look, it was not hard to see that it was the same species as the injured snow leopard. Also, it had a crescent-shaped mark on its forehead. Wasn't this the snow leopard that brought them the lamb?
Just half an hour ago, it was still alive! It even pretended to be dead, and now it was actually dead?
Long Xi carried the snow leopard in her arms and brought it to the lake. She washed the wound with the clear water of the lake and applied the ointment.
She found out that this snow leopard had forelimbs that were much shorter than its hind limbs. She wondered if it could be due to a birth defect or other reasons.
She carried it back to the corpse of the other snow leopard.
She knew that it did not want to leave its kind. It had protected it while putting its own life at risk!
The snow leopard opened both eyes.
It used all its energy to support its whole body through its forelimbs. As if depleting all of its energy, it struggled to crawl towards the corpse. Then, it returned to its original position by covering the icy cold corpse with its warm body.
Long Xi could feel her heart being touched at such a heart-warming scene.
Long Xi did not think that it was being sensational or helpless. Instead, she found this act so beautiful that she felt suffocated and a painful feeling was even forming in her heart...
Unexpectedly, Long Xi could understand its current state of mind.
Mo Kun stood on a big rock far away and looked at Long Xi in silence. He could not relate to her feelings. From his point of view, wasn't feeding on the weak the law of survival in nature and among humankind? You could save it once, but you could not save it forever. This snow leopard was born disabled, it was a miracle that it even made it this far!
He naturally thought of the past. Since young, he was constantly forced by the cruel reality to fight his enemies by putting his entire life at stake!
Just as he was lost in his thoughts, those golden eagles spread out their wings and leaped towards the corpse.
In that instant, Long Xi plunged onto the ground, hugged the snow leopard as tightly as she could and covered its corpse with her body. She seemed to have no idea what she had done.
