"So, what is this all about the savage vampire hiding in that cave below the mountain? Is it true?" King Antone asked Jessy one more time.
"Yes, Father. I was able to tour around the entire cave. They also abduct humans as their source of blood supply. More than five hundred savage vampires hiding in that cave including their leader Roden."
"And who exactly is this Roden and how you come to met him?" the king continue interrogating his daughter in law.
"It's a long story. I saved someone's life in the forest. I help him return to his family, but he was poison by a snake bite along the way and died when we arrive in the cave. That's when I come to know that the leader of the occupants of that cave is the descendant of the leader of the savage vampire that you have slain a long time ago. He is blood-related to the guy who is responsible for the bat attacks in the facility that you manage to kill with your spear," she explained.
The king was taken aback. "You mean to say...that this Roden was also his son?" He then remembered that the leader of the savage vampire had two sons, he has entirely forgotten about them. So, they're grown up now.
Jessy nodded her head. "Yup!"
King Antone's face turned dark. "I have made an oath to kill all savage vampires because of their savagery! Because of them, the anti-vampire vaccine was created. Their clan doesn't deserve to continue flourishing here on earth!" he said furiously.
Jessy cleared her throat. "But Father, Roden is different from his father. All he ever wanted is peace. He stayed away from trouble and would rather spend quality time with his children than engage in war or conflict..." she continues to defend Roden.
King Antone was speechless for a second while staring at his daughter in law in utter astonishment. "Child, you just spend a mere two days with them and yet you already believe them? That baffles me!" his mouth was set in a hard line.
Jessy bit her lip. It looks like she will have a hard time convincing the king this time. He's not buying her reasons. She glanced at the queen asking for her support.
As if Queen Margaret got her cue, she stood up and walked towards her husband's side. "Husband, the last war was a decade ago. I can still remember that both parties suffered tremendous loss of life. Many vampires died because of that war. I think it's about time that the two vampire clans will bury the hatchet and joined forces to establish peace and unity. We've been working hard in the past to establish peace with the savage vampire clan but too bad they are not willing to repent, we never have that kind of achievement. Now that their current leader is willing to join forces with us then why would deny them the chance to enjoy peace also?"
"Father, I think Mother is right. Now that peace is achievable why refused it? We should take the chance and set an example to all that we are a peace-loving clan. There are only a few surviving vampires around, we should stay together and live under peace. Let's forget the past and face the future with bright optimism ahead," Adam voiced out his opinion.
Abigail joined as well and went to his father's side. "I'm for peace, forgiveness, and unity, Father. I don't like war!"
Jessy feels blessed that she was surrounded by these people who understand her objective and ready to support her. If the king can't be swayed and continue to slaughter all the inhabitants of that cave then it will be a heavy burden for her to carry since she offered them peace and yet, in the end, she brought them chaos and death instead. She did not expect that the king still can't let go of his hatred towards the savage vampire clan and still carrying that grudge in his heart.
"Guys, are you ganging up on me?" King Antone asked everyone in the room.
"No. I'm just voicing out my opinion, Father," Abigail was quick to respond.
Adam sighed deeply. "Father, it's time to forget the past. If the son of your enemy doesn't want to get involved in the war and would love to live in peace, would you kill him because he doesn't want to fight? Would you kill him because he is the son of your mortal enemy? Would you slaughter his family and his people because they refuse to fight? I think that is called savagery and brutality in its evilest form. The sin of the father is not the sin of the children, please remember that father. Some people love war, but the majority love peace the most. Why bring death to the people who didn't do wrong to us personally? Killing them just because they carry the savage bloodlines on them is pure evil. Let them chose for themselves, if they want peace then we will give it to them. If they want war then let's have their way, but at least let them chose between death and life. Don't just slaughter them because of the old reason that they are our enemy, the time is changing. Please keep an open mind, Father," he pleaded.
King Antone jaws twitched, his face turned grim and glared at his son openly. "Are you questioning my authority, son?"
"No Father, I'm sorry if my words offended you," Adam responded quickly.
Queen Margaret intervened just in time before the king blows up. "My King, you have to understand that you are now listening to the brilliant and compa.s.sionate minds representing the new generation of the vampire race. Aren't you glad and proud that these children are lovers of peace, unity, and equality? They can be good leaders in the future because they think with logic and not quick to judge anyone. These children are our future leaders, please listen to their wisdom and opinions. For once, just accept that killing can't solve all problems. As long that vampires in that cave don't wish to wage war against us then why would you punish them with death? Please think wisely!"
King Antone looked at their faces in annoyance. Then he stared at his wife's pretty face. "You disappointed me today, wife! These children here have no idea that the only way to fully suppressed evil and put an end to this decade long war is to kill the remaining savage bloodline! And I am the king, my rules, my way! And you brat can not sway my decision!" he pointed his fingers at Adam, Abigail, and Jessy. "You think you know better...you are just children!"
The king stormed out of the room in a rage, with the queen running after him.
Abigail ran after them wanting to give her mother a hand in subduing her father's anger.
Jessy cried for the first time and for a long time in front of Adam. "I'm so sorry, I made your father upset, it's not my intention in the first place," she apologizes wholeheartedly.
