Chapter 2147: Chapter 2148: The Ultimate Pie
Ring, ring—
Just as Lin Yi was waiting for the other party to come down, his phone rang in his pocket; it was a call from Zhang Peng.
“Lin Bro, I’ve checked it out; he called several cla.s.smates, and the content was pretty much the same, trying to pull them into the scheme, but they all declined, citing a lack of money.”
With a snap, Zhang Peng lit a cigarette on the other end of the phone, then took a deep drag, “Based on the clues we have at the moment, it’s definitely a scam without a doubt.”
“I’m already at their hideout. You can head back to the police station. I can handle things here by myself.”
“Are you sure it’s okay to be alone? I heard from Brother Zhang that these guys could be really ruthless if pushed, and even though you’re tough, a tiger can’t withstand a pack of wolves.”
“They’re not even huskies, don’t insult the wolves.”
Zhang Peng burst into laughter, “Then I won’t worry. But remember to call if anything comes up.”
“Don’t worry; I know what I’m doing. They’re here; I have to go now.”
ReadNovelFull.com“Alright, alright, I’m hanging up.”
Lin Yi hung up the phone, and soon he saw a woman in high heels and business attire coming inside from the building.
She appeared to be in her thirties, her hair dyed the yellow color Lin Yi disliked the most.
He couldn’t shake the feeling of a provincial air about her.
After walking out from the building, the woman with yellow hair sized Lin Yi up.
“Are you the person introduced by Zhu Xiangbin?”
Lin Yi nodded, affirming her suspicion.
Getting the answer she wanted, the woman with yellow hair smiled, then extended her hand with a look of fervor in her eyes.
“h.e.l.lo, I’m the secretary to the general manager of the Asia-Pacific region at Jiamashi Group from America. My name is Chen Fang.”
Upon hearing this impressive t.i.tle, Lin Yi’s internal response was swear-filled.
Her t.i.tle sounded far more intimidating than his own; genuinely impressive.
“h.e.l.lo, h.e.l.lo, I’m Lin Yi,” Lin Yi extended his hand warmly,
“But I’ve only heard of Hermes. Jiamashi is new to me.”
“That’s just your ignorance.”
Chen Fang flipped her hair confidently, and the gesture nearly made Lin Yi burst into laughter.
Had Ji Qingyan or Yan Ci made such a motion, their commanding presence would have been irresistible, radiating oppression.
But when she did it, it felt out of place, like a clumsy attempt at imitation, laden with a semi-urban flavor.
“Our Jiamashi is a fully-owned subsidiary of Hermes and is their newly launched high-end brand, targeted at opening up China’s high-end market, hence why you’re getting such a great deal.”
“I see, this seems like a fantastic opportunity to make money. I’d like to join.”
Chen Fang nodded in approval.
“You were referred by Zhu Xiangbin, so he must have explained the company’s situation to you. I won’t bother giving you extra lectures. I’ll just arrange for you to become our agent. I can’t boast of more, but earning around five to six hundred thousand a year is easy, and with a bit of effort, reaching a million is not a problem. Hopefully, that arrangement is satisfactory to you.”
“You’re very kind; this means helping me make money. How could I possibly object?”
Chen Fang nodded again, her eyes gleaming with superiority.
“Good that you understand. As long as you work hard with us, you’ll be well-off.”
“I will certainly work hard, don’t worry.”
“Then come with me. There are a few agents upstairs having a meeting, and you might as well join them.”
“Sure, sure, let’s hurry. I don’t want to delay making money.”
Chen Fang smiled and said nothing more.
She felt that Lin Yi, though good-looking, seemed not too bright.
He would likely be easy to control and might give her a chance to make a good extraction.
Led by Chen Fang, they took the elevator to the 19th floor.
Contrary to the building’s exterior, the inside looked less impressive.
It felt slightly gloomy.
Just stepping out of the elevator, they could hear a loud, chant-like roar, like someone had injected them with chicken blood.
Chen Fang led Lin Yi confidently, guiding him to the farthest room.
The room wasn’t large, around sixty to seventy square meters.
It contained a few desks and chairs and a blackboard on the wall filled with indecipherable scribbles, which gave Lin Yi a headache just from looking.
In front of the blackboard stood a man in a suit, not particularly tall, with long hair, and wearing an ill-fitting suit, giving him a sloppy appearance.
The most amusing aspect was when he spoke, blending his sentences with rough English words, making it extremely awkward to listen to.
Flanking him on both sides were about a dozen people, men and women, dressed similarly, all holding their heads high with an air of supreme arrogance.
Apart from, there were about a dozen chairs, with seven or eight people sitting, listening intently to the long-haired man’s boasting.
Their earnestness was akin to attending a sermon by Jesus.
Seeing this, Lin Yi felt somewhat sentimental.
If these people had been as diligent in their studies as they were now, they wouldn’t have ended up being scammed like this.
When Lin Yi entered, the long-haired man stopped speaking.
Chen Fang approached him, whispered a few words, and he nodded before announcing to others:
“Now, please welcome the new agent joining us. From now on, he is one of our family.”
Hearing this, the seven or eight earnest attendees showed hostility in their eyes, and their applause was tepid as though they weren’t welcoming Lin Yi’s arrival.
It was as if Lin Yi’s presence posed a threat to their livelihood.
Seeing this, Lin Yi was even more speechless.
He was here to save them, yet they received him with such an att.i.tude.
Indeed, the world had too many fools; even the scammers were running short.
Then, Chen Fang approached Lin Yi and said:
“The person before you is Mr. Pete, the general manager for the Asia-Pacific region at Jiamashi from America.”
“President Pi, h.e.l.lo,” Lin Yi greeted with a smile.
“That’s his English name. Mr. Pete’s Chinese name is Li Jianfei.”
“I’m sorry, I’ve never been abroad and didn’t know this.”
“That’s alright,” said Li Jianfei politely,
“Now that you’re one of us, achieving great success and traveling around the world will be within easy reach. As long as you work hard, there will be no issues.”
“Absolutely, I will.”
“Find a seat for yourself. Let’s continue with the meeting,” said Li Jianfei,
“But before the meeting resumes, you need to surrender your phone.”
