Chapter 36
For these past few days, Feng Fei didn't forget to text him from time to time. Sometimes he would send his own selfies, sometimes a picture of scenery, or sometimes he would send a picture of some special gifts from his hometown that he wanted to give Hai Xiu.
There were rules and regulations in the school, one of them was that students weren't allowed to bring a mobile phone to cla.s.s, specially third year students. Once they were found, their mobile phones would be confiscated. Hai Xiu usually carried it, but since it was used as a communication tool, it was rarely seen. He was also afraid that it will be discovered, that was why it was muted all day. In these past few days, Feng Fei was sending him messages frequently and he was afraid of missing it, so he secretly changed it into a vibrate mode. Every time his phone vibrates, he knew that it was Feng Fei who was thinking about him again.
Since Feng Fei was worried that he'd delay his cla.s.s, he'd just send a text message every break time.
And if there was no text message in break time, Hai Xiu could just turn over and read Feng Fei's text over and over again, and never get tired.
They had been apart for a few days already, and the most common thing Hai Xiu did was to reread the chat records between him and Feng Fei. Just looking at the selfies from Feng Fei could make his heart beat faster and reading the love words would make him blush. Hai Xiu really thought that he could die happily.
Although Feng Fei wasn't with him during break time, it still became the best time for Hai Xiu everyday. While waiting for the text messages, he could sort out the papers in the Feng Feu's desk. He also asked Feng Fei for a voice chat because he wanted to hear his voice.
However, Feng Fei didn't listen to his request and instead, directly called the phone. Hai Xiu was a little disappointed with Feng Fei: "Why didn't you send a voice message?"
Feng Fei laughed from the other side of the phone: "What's the difference? Isn't it more convenient to call?"
"It's not the same ah… you will only listen on the phone once then it's gone…" Hai Xiu was too embarra.s.sed to the point of wanting to hide in the pile of papers, his small voice couldn't get any smaller as he said: "If you send…if you send a voice message, I can listen to it repeatedly…"
Feng Fei's smile grew bigger, he didn't expect Hai Xiu to say something like this. "Are you doing this on purpose?"
Hai Xiu didn't know what Feng Fei meant, he was a little lost and cautiously said: "No… I'm not doing it?"
Feng Fei didn't answer but directly hung up the phone call.
Hai Xiu was at loss while nervously holding the phone. Was he… too much?
Feng Fei always thought about him from time to time. He would always contact him and had been very dedicated in doing so. In fact, Hai Xiu himself couldn't reply in time because of the cla.s.s. Now he asked Feng Fei to do something, and Feng Fei was… Would Feng Fei think that he was asking too much?
Hai Xiu was so anxious at that moment, he was also annoyed and felt regretful. When he was thinking about apologizing to Feng Fei, his mobile phone buzzed that it almost shook his hand and then a series of voice messages came out.
Hai Xiu was startled and carefully turned on the voice message…
"Baby."
Hai Xiu's fingertips trembled and his face burned red.
How could Feng Fei be so good ah?!
Hai Xiu was too reluctant to listen to the other voice messages. Instead, he listened to the "baby" twenty more times before listening to the other voice messages. Just hearing it over and over again in his ear, Hai Xiu couldn't get any happier and could clearly see Feng Fei smiling while doing it.
Thus, Hai Xiu was listening to the cla.s.s while holding his phone.
After the cla.s.s break, it would be Ni Mei Lin's cla.s.s.
She originally thought that after Feng Fei's leave, Hai Xiu would've no companion and would be like before. Back then, Hai Xiu had no expressions everyday and seemed like a robot when answering the questions. But these two days, she noticed that Hai Xiu's state was still good. His results were still steadily rising, his mood was also very good and he would even smile from time to time.
Compared to the newly-transferred Hai Xiu, it was like a transition from black and white photos to colored photos—the whole person was alive.
Ni Mei Lin vaguely felt that Feng Fei probably played the biggest role in it. Therefore, when Feng Fei took a leave of absence, she paid special attention to Hai Xiu and felt relieved when she found nothing wrong.
In less than half a year, the change was really big. According to this development, Ni Mei Lin believed that after Hai Xiu's graduation, he could finally have a good university life like other people. And look at Feng Fei, since Feng Fei shared the same table with Hai Xiu, he had hardly ever provoked anyone at all and his results became good as well.
The college entrance examination was approaching and the school instructed all the students to focus on studying. The dean even mentioned it with Ni Mei Lin before to let Hai Xiu change seat. He said that it was good for Hai Xiu's achievements and it would further his developments. Ni Mei Lin hesitated at first, but looking at Hai Xiu's small face at the moment, the idea was completely dispelled.
Compared to a shocking achievement and a news that would shock the city during college entrance examination, Ni Mei Lin believed that what Hai Xiu needed the most right now was a healthy body and mind.
There were still a few years—and in those years, he should have a beautiful memory that only existed in his unfamiliar student days.
Moreover, Hai Xiu's performance had always been very good. Ni Mei Lin looked down at the textbook and called Hai Xiu to ask a few questions. After hearing a perfect and concise answer, Ni Mei Lin nodded and said: "Sit down."
Ni Mei Lin was now prepared to talk to the dean after the period. Hai Xiu's learning skills in the cla.s.s was completely in place and there was no need to do anything more.
As she turned around and started writing on the blackboard, a wry smile formed in her heart. It was because if they changed Hai Xiu's seat while Feng Fei was gone, he would definitely demolished the dean's office and no one would be able to stop him.
Thinking about the day when Feng Fei left, Ni Mei Lin still remember how Feng Fei didn't forget to ask her to pay attention to Hai Xiu. At that time, Ni Mei Lin's heart felt funny, she didn't know that Feng Fei would be this considerate.
Obviously, change didn't only exist in Hai Xiu.
Completely unaware that he just escaped a big crisis, Hai Xiu flipped over his phone after the period. Since Feng Fei didn't send anything, he listened to the voice message again and again, and felt his mood become better. Feng Fei's voice was so good!
Tomorrow was New Year's Day, and after New Year's Day, Feng Fei would be back in the second half of the month!
There was a small New Year's calendar on Hai Xiu's table, the kind of calendar cards that were often given in the supermarkets. Many students would put it on their table or in the textbooks. They would also mark the two days of the college entrance examination and look at it from time to time, it was to motivate themselves or encircled the days for the holidays and birthdays, and looked forward to what was planned.
While on Hai Xiu's calendar, the marked date was the day when Feng Fei was coming back home.
Students were going to have a holiday soon and they were being impatient. Morning and afternoon cla.s.ses were still fine, but after an evening self-study, everyone could hardly read a book. They would secretly read magazines or novels on the table. Some would chatters and some would sneak their mobile phone under the textbook.
The teacher on duty stressed out the discipline several times, but it wasn't effective at all. He had also been looking forward to the holiday, so after a few times of reprimanding them, he stopped and didn't bother anymore. Hence, in the middle of the self-study, he went out for awhile and made a phone call in the corridor.
On the other hand, Hai Xiu didn't even feel upset and was just reading a book. It was because on New Year's Day, Jiang Yu Man wouldn't be there and also Feng Fei. It was no different from usual.
However, the dean at that time gave a cla.s.s inspection. After seven cla.s.ses, he came to Hai Xiu's cla.s.sroom and only saw the latter was concentrated on the book and undisturbed.
When the dean came in, everyone quieted down. The dean stared at everyone and scolded out a few sentences before going out of the cla.s.sroom.
Just this afternoon, Ni Mei Lin looked for the dean and said that Hai Xiu didn't need to adjust the seat, his current position was completely fine. The dean was very dissatisfied at that time, but Ni Mei Lin repeatedly stressed out that Hai Xiu wasn't so easily affected by others. He didn't believe it, so he came to investigate and saw it with his own eyes. Therefore, he decided to stop.
At ten o'clock, the school bell rang on time. Everyone tidied up their bag and rushed out of the cla.s.sroom. Hai Xiu didn't panic and arranged the desk leisurely. After doing so, he wore his down jacket and scarf, and then went home.
After the self-study these past few days, Hai Xiu always went back to Feng Fei's house, since the latter always repeatedly reminding him to do so.
When Hai Xiu came back every night, he could see a large insulation bucket on the table which contained the hot soup or snacks that the auntie made for him.
Hai Xiu went to brush his teeth after eating the soup and the snacks. He even washed himself and unconsciously put on Feng Fei's pajamas.
Feng Fei's pajamas had a soapy fragrance with a unique smell of Feng Fei, it was like the taste of sunshine.
Just as when Hai Xiu touched the clothes he was wearing and was secretly pleased, his mobile phone suddenly rang.
The call was from Feng Fei.
Hai Xiu quickly answered it, feeling a little guilty: "Feng… Feng Fei?"
"Not sleeping yet?"
Hai Xiu let out a "hmm" sound and then: "I just finished bathing."
Feng Fei smiled from the other side of the phone: "That sound so wrong ah… are you doing something shameful?"
Hai Xiu panicked: "No… I am not—"
"You're not?" Feng Fei smirked, "Do you think I'll believe you? You're breathing heavily."
Hai Xiu just realized that he was really nervous and was breathing heavily. He quickly took a few deep breaths, but before he could speak again, Feng Fei suddenly whispered: "Are you thinking about this big brother while doing something bad?"
Feng Fei's reaction made Hai Xiu felt ashamed, to the point that he almost jumped up. He blushed and hurriedly explain: "No! I… I just finished bathing and I… I happened to see your pajamas. I'm sorry, I don't know why, I—"
Feng Fei laughed and coaxed him: "Keep calm, don't panic."
Hai Xiu held the mobile phone with his two hands, he then explained in a pitiful voice: "I… I stole your pajamas. B—But I didn't do anything… didn't get it dirty… I just put it on…"
Feng Fei chuckled: "Really ah?"
Hai Xiu nodded and quickly added: "Really! I just put it on, I didn't do anything strange…"
"Then take a picture of yourself for this big brother." There was a hint of laughter in Feng Fei's voice when he said it, "How else would I believe you? Take a picture."
Hai Xiu gulped: "Take… take a picture?"
Feng Fei said lightly: "Yes ah."
Hai Xiu was completely stunned and ashamed. Not only did Feng Fei found that he stole his clothes, he also wanted a picture of it!
Hai Xiu's hands shook. He was thinking about whether to take a picture directly or by the mirror, when Feng Fei suddenly asked again: "Unb.u.t.ton the top two b.u.t.tons and open the collar."
Hai Xiu's shy body turned all red. He tried to beg: "Feng Fei…"
"You don't want to?"
Hai Xiu couldn't hear the anger in Feng Fei's voice, so he dared not to answer. He was about to hang up the phone and take a picture, when suddenly a gentle voice said from the other side of the phone: "If you don't want to, then open the door."
Hai Xiu's eyes widened and his fingers went loose, and the phone fell on the floor.
He ran to the French window, and across the gla.s.s wall, across the carved railings, across the fluttering snow, he saw Feng Fei who was holding a phone and was walking along the snow on the winding road.
Feng Fei saw the light from the second floor, waved his hand with a smile and shouted loudly: "I'm exhausted! Get down here and open the door!"
