Chapter 100 - An Act Of Charity

"You did WHAT?" 

Chen Yi had to move the phone a few inches away from her ear at the loud exclamation.

"Calm down, It was no big deal." Bringing the phone back to her ear, she said with a sigh. 

"It definitely was! How could you say it was not? I had the misfortune of encountering that Shen Yue on a few occasions. And let me tell you, she has one arrogant personality. After what you did, you can't expect that she would come back to you with the contract offer."

Hearing this, Chen Yi chuckled while twirling her fingers. "Oh, she sure will."

"I want to believe you but...how are you so certain?" Gu Chiantao uncertain voice flowed in. 

Chen Yi glanced out from the windshield and smiled at the pa.s.sing forests. "Well," She laughed. "You don't know my cousin as well as I do."

From Chen Yi's tone and words. Gu Chiantoa was nearly convinced that this girl had everything under her control. There had been a subtle rise of respect since the day Gu Chintao had first met her in that restaurant. As time pa.s.sed, that impression became more and more profound. 

Gu Chiantao's thoughts wandered back to the days in high school.

The Chen Yi at that time used to be a shy, awkward girl. 

One of the types that would wear gla.s.s and sit at the last bench whole day immersing themselves into books. 

It could never have occurred to Gu Chiantao that the seemingly pa.s.sive girl would one day turn out to be someone with such an a.s.sertive and striking personality.

"h.e.l.lo..." Chen Yi frowned at the silence.

"I was just wondering if we had come across in our school days, we might have ended up becoming very good friends." As of now, Gu Chiantao was in contact with Chen Yi only because of their mutual hatred towards Chen Ying. But as she spent more time with her, she felt her personality was really attractive. 

A distinct contrast to a dull, naive disposition that Gu Chiantoa had a.s.signed to her before meeting her.

Chen Yi was certainly surprised after hearing this from Gu Chiantao. Then, she laughed. "Well, it is never late," She said before quickly changing the subject, "You said you wanted to talk about something important. What was that?"

"Actually I had compiled a list of opportunities for you to make your debut. They might not be much but they will give you a general idea on where to start." Gu Chiantao paused for a second. "Chen Ying would definitely try her best to thwart you, stopping you from finding a solid footing. The first role you are going to take is very important for you. So you must be cautious at every step. I will extend my help everywhere I can." 

Chen Yi smiled. "I understand. And thank you."

Back in the condo, after entering the lounge, Chen Yi lurched forward and wrapped her arms around Li Luxian. "I missed you."

Li Luxian was a little taken aback at her enthusiasm. He could not help but smile realizing she was opening up to him. He leaned in and was about to capture her lips but just then he had to stop, he heard footsteps. 

Frowning, he looked up only to find his poor subordinate walking - correction stumbling - in carrying a pile of desserts in his arms. Li Luxian silently gaped at the scene as Zhang Yufang carried himself with great difficulty across the lounge and unloaded the pile over the couch to catch a breath.

Once free, he immediately bowed to greet his master.

"What the heck is this?" he asked Chen Yi.

When Chen Yi said she was at a bakery, he had a.s.sumed she might be taking one or two items but this? A mountain of sweets?

"All of my favorite desserts." Chen Yi innocently replied, not being able to understand why he was asking such a basic question.

Li Luxian closed his eyes and took a deep breath. It looked like he was counting down to ten as he moved a hand through his sleek hair. He finally opened his eyes and ordered Zhang Yufang in a dead tone. "Get rid of those."

"What- Wait, No way!" Chen Yi was fast to react. She glared at Li Luxian, getting in front of Zhang Yufang threatening him not to dare to take a step towards her babies. "What is the meaning of this? Did I offend you? There was no such clause in the contract that stated I would have to restrict my diet!"

Regretfully, there was no such clause. "You continue to surprise me, Yi'er." Li Luxian did not know what to do with her. He did not even know what to say. "Get away from those desserts right now."

"Why?"

"This is unhealthy." No matter what point you looked at it, the tremendous amount was indeed unhealthy.

"I never knew Mr. Li is such a great fan of health!" Chen Yi glared. When she was unable to stop Li Luxian, she hurriedly said. "It's not like I am going to gobble up them all right now, okay? Look, there is no need to waste food. Think about all those starving kids who are unable to eat enough to survive? If you waste food so brazenly, imagine how would they feel?"

Chen Yi clever words temporarily put Li Luxian in silence. Only for a short while before he chuckled.

Chen Yi had a bad feeling about that chuckle as she protectively guarded her babies

"You speak words of wisdom, wife." Li Luxian tone was enriched with profound amus.e.m.e.nt. "You have opened my eyes. We won't be throwing them."

"Really?" Chen Yi had just eased a little before his oppressing words dawned upon her.

"Yes," He smiled. "'Li' family had been actively involved in acts of philanthropy and charity. In fact, we have many orphanages. Let's just donate these to those 'starving' kids. I am certain, they will be very appreciative of you for your kindness."
