Chapter 101 - A Promise

Chen Yi watched with a pained heart as her meticulously selected desserts were being packed in front of her eyes. She shed away an imaginary tear as she consoled her heart. 'It's for the greater good. Think about those children we will be giving you their blessings.'

When Li Luxian found Chen Yi's glum expressions, he did not know what to do. And the irony was, he felt guilty. What? He shouldn't be feeling guilty from stopping her from giving herself diabetes and ruining her health.

He gently pulled her onto his lap on the couch. "This much amount is unhealthy, okay? Don't be sad. How about this, later on, I will make you anything you want utilizing natural and organic ingredients?"

Hearing his words, Chen Yi looked up at his face, bewildered. "You...can cook?"

Li Luxian nodded. "Yes, where do you think the breakfast you had in the morning came from?"

Li Luxian words had exactly the opposite effect of what he had desired.

If Chen Yi was down before, now she felt like crying.

As she thought back to the quality of the breakfast she had in the morning, she recalled the rich taste and how he had already established that Li Luxian must have ordered breakfast from some five-star restaurant. 

And here she naively believed that she had found something in which she was better than him.

"Hey, what happened?" Li Luxian did not have any idea what was going on in her head.

Chen Yi pulled at his necktie and roughy pulled his face closer to her. In a tone as if she was addressed to an enemy, she said darkly. "One day, I will have you taste the sweet flavor of losing to someone." That was a promise.

Before Li Luxian could grasp her intentions, she had already sprung to her feet and walked into the bedroom. Li Luxian stared at the spot where she sat a few seconds ago. His lap was still warm; he could still feel her softness, her lingering scent in the air as he commented. "How strange."

Inside the bedroom, what Chen Yi found resting over the bed had her gasp in admiration.

A breathtaking dress rested over the bed. In a trance of admiration, she walked forward to further inspect the splendid piece of art. The dress was a navy dar blue in colour. As one's gaze shifted downwards, the color gradually changed to a lighter shade of blue.

When she touched the material, the softness of the fabric flowed through her fingers making her wonder how would it feel against her skin.

The fabric was definitely one of its kind, sparkling, delicate yet elegant. 

Besides the dress, rested an exquisite silver mask, a pair of matching heels, and a few pieces of jewelry. 

"Liked it?" Li Luxian voice emerged from the entrance of the room. Chen Yi turned back and found him looking at her with a smirk. "Is it for me?"

"Who else could it be for?" Li Luxian walked towards her and stopped a few inches away from her. "Mother sent it this morning. She said she had personally selected the dress for you."

Chen Yi glanced back at the dress. She bit her lip to stop herself from breaking into a smile. To learn that Mother personally selected the dress for her, her heart surged with emotions. "Your mother has a fine taste."

"She asked me to send a few pictures on you in the dress." Li Luxian saw through her happiness. "It's only an hour before we depart. Why don't you try the dress on? We still have to take you to a stylist."

"Alright," Chen Yi picked up the dress and took it into the closet room. Although she had no lack of luxuries during her time with her family when her grandfather was alive, she had always avoided wearing fancy dressed.

It was not that she disliked them.

It was just once Fu Jianguo had once said that he did not like showy women. So in her attempts to be the ideal woman in his eyes, Chen Yi chose to stay away from this type of dress and appeared in the parties while dressed moderately. 

She had been subjected to mockery and ridicule from people's side because of this but she did not care. 

Her naive self back then believed that as long as the man she had set her heart for was happy with her, it was worth it.

Her naivety was further fueled by her dear cousin, Chen Ying who make it certain to have Chen Yi believe that she was doing exactly right to have such a dull and tasteless style

And the end result? That so-called person she did it all in the first place decided to abandon her because she was too 'dull' for his liking.

"Are you done?" Li Luxian asked from outside. "Do you need some help?"

Chen Yi was at the difficult part of trying to reach her hands to her back. There was no way she could have herself zipped the back. Feeling defeated, she sighed. "Yes, come in." She did not want to end up ruining the dress in her attempts to reach the zipper.

It was such a fine piece of art. If she ended up managing it, she won't be able to ever forgive herself for the sin.

Li Luxian walked in. "Can you zip it?"

He nodded and walked closer to her to stand right behind her back. His fingers brushed past her skin as he moved up the zipper; the slight touch sent tingling down her spine forcing her to bite her lip.

Once he was done, Chen Yi excitedly looked down to find how perfectly the dress hugged her curves, enhancing them and making them appear even more perfect. It was as if the dress was made for her.

"What do you think?" She asked for Li Luxian opinion. Looking up, she found his gaze trailing down her body, making her shudder slightly.

"You are going to be the most beautiful woman tonight."

His heartfelt words sent b.u.t.terflies in her stomach.
