Chapter 396 - The female lead was gone. (2)
They stayed at the same hotel where Shu Jianyang would be hosting his banquet. It was the biggest hotel in City Xi and Shu Yan asked for two rooms.
Seeing that Shu Yan had asked for two separate rooms made Shu Jianyang feel better. He gave Feng Zeyu a meaningful look. He felt both relieved that they were not intimate yet but also that Feng Zeyu had yet to “succeed”.
Feng Zeyu, with his room key in hand, paused for a little and ignored Shu Jianyang.
Shu Jianyang had a lot to take care of recently and took off after Shu Yan had settled down. Shu Yan decided to take Feng Zeyu to tour City Xi.
City Xi had yet to develop at this point in time and there weren’t a lot to look at. Shu Yan walked around with Feng Zeyu for half a day and they had already covered the entire City Xi. She then took him over to get some more well-known dishes.
“Everything here is a bit spicy. Can you eat a little bit of it?” Having been living in City Nan for a while, Shu Yan’s taste in food had toned down.
“I can eat mild spice.” He had met others from all over the country back when he was in the troop and had learned to eat a little bit of spice. Nevertheless, his ability to handle spice had lowered since he had returned to City Nan.
“Good then. I’ll order you a few of the dishes that City Xi is known for.”
City XI’s food was the same as Shu Yan’s hometown. It had been a while since she had the delicacies back home and she thoroughly enjoyed them.
“Don’t have too much. You are going to fill yourself up before dinner,” said Feng Zeyu quickly when he saw Shu Yan eating quite a bit.
Snacks are delicious but they shouldn’t replace an actual meal. They would give her an upset stomach.
Shu Yan turned, looked and smiled in embarra.s.sment. She did overeat a little bit.
Shu Yan had plan on taking Feng Zeyu to a very well-known restaurant for dinner but Shu Jianyang came and said Grandma had already prepared dinner and was waiting for them.
Shu Yan didn’t plan on going originally as the original owner’s grandparents, big aunt and uncle would be there. But she had already turned it down once; doing it again would make Shu Jianyang look bad.
“I’ll skip,” said Feng Zeyu after some hesitation.
“You have to come with. Or do you not want to get married,” said Shu Yan while giving him a sideway glance.
“Just come with us. They specifically invited Shu Yan over so they can meet you.” Shu Jianyang felt that Feng Zeyu was only pushing his luck here.
Dinner was ready by the time they arrived. Everybody, let them be Old Mr. and Mrs. Shu or Shu Yan’s big uncle and aunty, were all stunned speechless when they saw Shu Yan.
Was this what Shu Yan look like?
The Shu Yan in the memory was dark and unfashionable. This modern looking, light-skinned and pretty woman who was obviously from a wealthy family was Shu Yan?
Old Mrs. Gu was hesitant when she said, “Shu Yan?”
“Hi Grandma. It’s been a few years. I had a gotten a divorce and felt too shameful to see you so I took off with the children. I apologize for not being here for the New Year.”
“She sounds like Shu Yan,” said big aunty as she whispered into big uncle’s ear.
Big uncle gave her a look and said to Shu Yan with a smile. “It must not be easy to take care of the two young one by yourself. We can take care of Grandma and Grandpa at home.”
“That’s right. You have already been very filial when you have the village in mind,” laughed Old Mrs. Shu.
Shu Jianyang gave her a look. That wasn’t what you’ve said before. You called her a prodigal daughter for days at home back then.
Shu Yan’s grandparents and her aunt and uncle did not treat her the same way as she remembered how they used to treat original owner. All she could say was that people would always bully the easy targets and would be treated different when one had confidence in oneself.
