Chapter 283 - Shu Yan looked like a queen in front of everyone. (1)
Judging from the way Zhang Huaxiu look, she looked more pregnant than having a stomach issue.
Both she and Chen Fei were young and healthy. It was only normal for them to get pregnant after being married for a while if they weren’t using birth controls.
Shu Yan walked over and patted her on her back. She handed a tissue over to her and asked, “Are you alright?”
“Yeah, I am fine. Just my stomach is roiling.” She heaved again as she spoke. There were tears in her eyes and she was pale. She wasn’t looking good at all.
“When did you have your period last?” Shu Yan decided to ask.
Zhang Huaxiu didn’t understand why she asked at first and then, as she came to, her eyes widened. “I think I am 10 days late.”
“You didn’t even realize it when you are 10 days late? Quick, go to the hospital and see if you are pregnant. If you are, go home and get some rest. Looking how pale you are,” said Shu Yan, worried about her.
“Okay, I will head to the hospital to have myself checked out.” She had debated about waiting before getting pregnant but now if she was pregnant, Zhang Huaxiu would be thrilled. Neither she nor Chen Fei were young and both of them wanted to have a child.
“Wait here.” Shu Yan, still feeling worried, gave Chen Fei a call. “Xiuxiu isn’t feeling well. Why don’t you take her to the hospital to have a checkup?”
They didn’t know for sure that she was pregnant so Shu Yan decided against saying anything. He’d find out when the result came back. Zhang Huaxiu didn’t mention anything either. What if she wasn’t pregnant? She didn’t want him to get excited over nothing.
Chen Fei came and picked up Zhang Huaxiu in his car in a little while. Now that Zhang Huaxiu was gone, Shu Yan had to filled in herself. She hadn’t stayed so late in her shop in a long time. It wasn’t very busy so she chitchatted with the other two salesperson and time went by quicly.
Shu Yan had just gotten home when Chen Fei came knocking on her door with an excited look. “I am going to be a Daddy.”
“Congratulations,” said Shu Yan sincerely.
“Thank you, thank you.” He was already 29 years old and the children of those he went to high school with were already old enough to go buy soy sauce. Some who had kids at an even earlier age, their children were already in their teens. Now that he was about to have his own child, his excitement was indescribable.
“Have her stay home and rest up for a few days now that she is pregnant. She can come back to work whenever she feels better.” Zhang Huaxiu did not look good at all and the early stage of a pregnant is always risky. Shu Yan didn’t want anything to happen in her shop.
“I know. The doctor mentioned that she was overworked. I came to give you the good news but also to take some time off for her. Xiuxiu said three days will be enough.” Chen Fei had wanted Zhang Huaxiu to just quit the job but Xiuxiu did not want to do that. Partly because she would be bored and partly because she didn’t want to just up and leave like that. Besides, she had seen her sister-in-law being a stay-at-home housewife. That was not the life she wanted for herself.
Other than Chen Fei, Father and Mother Zhang were the happiest when they heard the news that Zhang Huaxiu was pregnant. When they found out that the doctor said their daughter was overworked, they were very unhappy right away. Why was she overworked? Helping out Wu Xiuyue, of course. It was fine that she wanted to save money but she kept asking her sister-in-law for help. Okay, so she could provide some help, but Wu Xiuyue didn’t pay her anything either. Once or twice wasn’t a big deal but after a few more times, Chen Fei should say something about that.
Wu Xiuyue, who was organizing her merchandizes at the shop had yet to find out that Zhang Huaxiu was pregnant. She peeked at the door from time to time and frowned when Zhang Huaxiu did not show up. She was unhappy. Yes, she had been frugal, but she only did that for the Zhang family. Everybody had their own houses now. Even her sister-in-law moved into a big apartment after she had gotten married. Their family was the only one still living in that small and dark house.
Returning home disgruntled, she saw her father- and mother-in-law and her husband surrounding Zhang Huaxiu, all looking very happy.
“I am home.” It was almost 11 o’clock. Everybody was usually already in bed by now and that Xiuxiu would have returned home with Chen Fei. What was going on today.
