Chapter 205 - "You can’t let them know where I am or give them my contact information." (1)
Inside the club with the deafening loud music, Shu Jianyang leaned sideway on a couch, his legs crossed. Occasionally a girl would try to approach him but they’d all be sent away by a look from him.
“Third Brother, there’s a call for you.”
Shu Jianyang stepped outside of the club with his mobile phone and answered the phone in a very pretentious way.
“h.e.l.lo? Who is it?”
“Third Brother, it’s me.” Shu Yan felt that the audio was choppy. “h.e.l.lo? Third Brother, can you hear me?”
“h.e.l.lo? h.e.l.lo?” Shu Jianyang walked across the street and could finally hear the voice from the other end. “Hey, Yanyan. Hang on. Let me call you back from the land line.” Ship! This phone cost him 20,000 yuan and it could only serve the purpose of a paper weight.
He looked for a small shop, pulled over a chair, and called Shu Yan back.
“Third Brother, can you hear me now?” Shu Yan chuckled, “I told you mobile phones aren’t great but you insisted on buying one.”
Mobile phone in this era was a rip off, expensive and poor reception. Cellphone would be available in another couple of years and those were much better.
“Other bosses have them too. I can’t be the only one without out. That’d make bad optics. How are you doing in City Nan?” Shu Jianyang said in a low voice after looking left and right.
Shu Yan busted out laughing. Once she became more familiar with Shu Jianyang, she noticed that he was actually a pretty funny man.
“I am doing well. I have officially moved my household register to City Nan and thought I’d tell you.” Shu Yan thought about it long and hard and that seemed to be the only thing that she has to say to him.
“I thought you’ve already done that last time?” asked Shu Jianyang dubiously.
“What I had last time was not official. It was finalized today. I have also changed the kids’ names. JingJing’s new name is Shu Jinxi and Tianbao’s is Shu Jinchen. That’s all I wanted to tell you. I am going to hang up now.”
“Wait,” Shu Jianyang stopped her. “Are you coming back over the new year? Second Uncle and Jianbin came looking for you a few times and asked me for your contact information. I told them I don’t have it but I don’t think they really believed me.”
“Not over the new year. You can’t let them know where I am or give them my contact information. Just tell them that we don’t talk to each other,” said Shu Yan with no hesitation.
Why would she want to go back? To let them leech off of her? She was sure that they wouldn’t even let her leave the house unless she paid them a large sum of money.
The village that original owner was from was very backward. They didn’t see daughters as humans. More like personal properties. Before they got married, they must obey their parents. After they got married, they must obey their husbands. If they got a divorce and moved home, they must obey their family members again. All in all, they were not humans, just an object.
If Shu Yan went back for new year, her parents would for sure lock her up and definitely no one would step up to help her. Shu Jianyang might but that would be difficult anyway. He might be mighty outside but he was someone of a younger generation at home.
When she woke up the next morning, Shu Yan checked on herself in the mirror. Most of the scabs had finally fallen off. But the spots where the scabs had fallen off were white, looking no better than when she had the spots. That being said, it still looked better than when she was scabbing. She could finally leave the house without wearing a facemask.
The new skin was pink and delicate and Shu Yan dared not clean it too hard. She only went through it gently before dapping it with cotton b.a.l.l.s with skin softener, followed by repair essence and repair lotion. All these were prescriptions from the hospital. A small bottle of 5 mL of essence cost 200 yuan plus. Shu Yan was not frugal when it came to her looks. She had already spent over 10,000 yuan on the laser treatment. These costs now were immaterial.
