Chapter 185 - "Mommy, are you making dinner for that uncle today?" (2)
“Boss, I have a lot of time thinking it through last night and this one was my fault.” When Shu Yan was chastising her yesterday, Zhang Huaxiu just felt very unjust. She only did what she did with the shop’s best interest in mind and to save money for Shu Yan. Even if Shu Yan wasn’t going to praise her, the least she could do was not to chastise her. She cried right after Shu Yan left. She was distracted yesterday afternoon and in the evening. All the way until last night, she was rolling in bed and gave this a long, hard thought. She did overstep.
Shu Yan smiled when she heard her say that. “I was just going to talk to you about that as well. I might have come across a bit too strong yesterday.”
Zhang Huaxiu shook her head. “I crossed the line. If we end up not being able to sell these, just deduct the amount from my pay.”
Shu Yan looked at her and made sure that she wasn’t just saying it to be spiteful. She smiled lightly and said, “That will not be necessary. We will be able to get rid of them when we do our year-end promotions. I meant it when I said I have considered having you to be the store manager. But a store manager needs to be able to do more than just selling clothes. Being able to manager a store is much more important. And there are many tricks in managing a store. I am trying to figure things out too as we go. You can also read some books on this topic as well. But I must make this clear at the beginning, I will not make you the store manager if you can’t handle the role.”
Shu Yan had been looking for a store manager for the last few months. Many had applied for the position and two of them were college students. The first thing that they asked for was shares. Shu Yan couldn't help but busted out laughing. Surely college students were valuable in this day and age, but not so much that she’d just hand out shares just because of their t.i.tle. There were a few with some managing experience but their philosophy in management differed from that of Shu Yan. There was one that Shu Yan was quite happy with but she has a child and could only work during the day and she must get off by 4 PM to go and pick up her child. Shu Yan understood that being a mother was difficult, but she ran a business, not a charity. She had no choice but to turn her down.
She had given it long and hard thoughts and finally decided on training up Zhang Huaxiu. Then the incident yesterday took place. Had she not recognized her own mistake by today, Shu Yan would have given up on her.
Zhang Huaxiu might be lacking in many areas but she had some experience with selling clothes now. Plus, ever since she had learned how to match outfits from Shu Yan, Shu Yan was able to be gone from the shop for an extended amount of time and Zhang Huaxiu would be able to handle most issues that may come up. It wasn’t like Shu Yan would stop going to the shop altogether.
“Thank you, Boss. I will for sure read some books on it.” Zhang Huaxiu’s eyes beamed. Who didn’t want to move up when situation allowed?
Having taken care of the issue at her shop, Shu Yan went to pick up her children. After she had boarded the bus, she looked over at the door out of habit. She did not see the familiar person after the bus had started. That’s when it dawned on Shu Yan that the man had left this afternoon. He would not be following her around anymore.
Habit was a horrible thing. It had only been a little bit over a week and Shu Yan had already gotten used to someone protecting her by her side.
She must admit that the last few days was the time she felt the most secured since she had arrived in this world. Now that he was gone, she could feel a void in her heart.
