Chapter 165 - Kidnapper (1)
There was a public phone available in the motel. Shu Yan called Lin Hui at work and asked her to let Wu Xiuyue know that her kids would be having dinner over at her place tonight. JingJing has the house key on her and would be able to go back home to shower and sleep after dinner.
She then called Zhang Huaxiu and told her that she wouldn’t be back and asked her to keep an eye out on the shop.
Every other trip to City Han had been very rushed. Now that she had time, Shu Yan planned to walk around and take a look at the city.
In her original world, Shu Yan had been to City Han quite a few times. Mainly that City Han was fairly close to City Nan and it was a good choice for a quick trip over weekends or holidays.
Back in the 90s, there still weren’t a lot of tall buildings in City Han. Bridges and the rivers were still preserved over a lot of locations. Shu Yan wandered around without any destinations in mind. She walked into a street that sold cheongsam and other silk products. Unfortunately, Shu Yan didn’t have the body to hold up a cheongsam; all she could do was to look. Strolling around slowly, there was a slight breeze. Shu Yan squinted her eyes; she has felt so relaxed in a very long time.
Inside a little shop, Shu Yan fell in love with a beige colored cheongsam. It was handmade, including the embroidery on top of it. It was done one st.i.tch at a time. Shu Yan stroked it gently and it felt so comfortable. She asked for the price. It wasn’t cheap. It cost 500 yuan, which was a lot of money in the 90s.
Shu Yan liked it so much that she decided to be impulsive for once and bought it. She’d be able to wear it after she dropped down to a normal weight.
Right next to her was a street full of food. All of them City Han’s local cuisines and snacks. It was very often that Shu Yan has an opportunity to enjoy herself so she decided not to be on a diet today. She ordered three dishes plus white rice and had a blasting time.
After she returned to the motel, worried, she called the little grocery shop in the back alley again. Shu Yan was quite familiar with the boss lady there by now. She enthusiastically went over to Wu Xiuyue’s house to get her.
“I’m so sorry. I had planned to return today but there was so much to take care of here that I am going to stay for an extra day. Thank you for taking care of my kids for me.” Shu Yan truly felt bad, having to trouble Wu Xiuyue each and every single time. She would bring back some souvenirs from City Han for her.
“Oh, stop it already. Just let me know next time you go merchandizing. If I don’t see you the next day, I’ll just pick your kids up and take them to my place. They are still young. We can’t be too safe,” said Wu Xiuyue with a smile.
“It was very last minute. I didn’t plan on staying overnight originally. Are they both behaving?”
“You know your own kids. They are both very well behaved. We have just finished dinner and they are playing with HanHan right now. I’ll have them stay over at my place tonight. I will set up beddings in the living room. The three of them can sleep together.” Wu Xiuyue was quite okay to have her kid get close to Shu Yan’s two children.
“That’s alright. They can go sleep back at home.” Ye Jingjing was already seven years old. It’s time to teach her the difference between boys and girls.
“Okay then. I will take them back in a little bit.” The place that Shu Yan was renting right now was even closer to Wu Xiuyue’s place; just one building in between them and was only several steps away. “Oh, by the way, is your house going up in price?”
“Why do you ask?” Shu Yan was surprised by her question.
“You know Xiao Chen, I mean Chen Fei. Remember he bought his house a couple of days ago? I remember it used to be $4,200 / sf. It was $4,300 when he bought. When they went over to sign the contract today, it was up another $50. That was so fast. It’s only been a couple of days. Xiao Chen didn’t even do anything and he made close to $10,000. That’s several years of income for us. Aiya! You will be back tomorrow. We’ll talk then. The cost for talking on the phone is too high.” Wu Xiuyue hung up quickly after she had said that.
“Eh?” Shu Yan shook her head helplessly when she heard the dial tone.
Back then, both parties had to pay for the call. Not just the party making the call, but also the party who answered the call.
