As expected, panic ensued and the people in the plaza started fleeing. While the ones who released their auras attacked the carriage with their magic.
Fire, ice, lightning, earth, wind, all kinds of magic exploded at the same time on their target and created an explosion that covered the entirety of the plaza. Everyone that was in the plaza; died almost instantly, only the stronger ones survived.
And strangely, the people behind Arima, which included Lanya, were totally safe. They looked in front of them and saw that Arima hadn't moved at all nor used a magic. He also didn't protect them from the magic in purpose. He just stood there and the explosion attacked his body, nothing more, nothing less. But still, no damage was made to him.
"What's happening?" Lanya asked, maybe a bit too calmly.
Arima hummed for a moment "If I'm not wrong, that carriage we saw was from the royal family of this continent, well, it also means that it pertains to the most influential family on this planet" Arima laughed and said "And someone just tried to a.s.sa.s.sinate the person inside that carriage, in public"
Lanya didn't respond and just looked at where the magic exploded, when the smoke died out, the carriage was still there, not even a single dent on it. Only that all the people around became dead bodies, destroyed and disfigured.
"Those attackers must be around the ninth level, but not higher than that" Arima commented and Lanya nodded.
Those same attackers surrounded the carriage and started gathering their mana. At the same time, a man opened the door of the carriage and stepped out. It was a tall man, good features and a really imposing aura. He looked around coldly.
"Who dares to attack my family?" He said coldly to the people surrounding him.
They didn't respond to him and just launched more magic, this time, even stronger than before. The man sneered and a circle appeared below him, he waved his hand and the magic flew toward the sky the moment they entered in the circle's area, before exploding in the sky.
"Oh" Arima exclaimed after seeing that "Tenth level, but that guy is talented, he deviated all these attacks with only neutral magic" He said and created a bench to sit on and Lanya sat down next to him.
"So, he's strong?" Lanya asked. At that point, the people who had been saved by Arima just decided to flee, they didn't want to rely on these two people.
"Yeah, he's quite strong, there's no doubt, but…" Arima paused and squinted his eyes "There's another factor in this fight" He said and Lanya returned to look at the fight.
A few of the attackers rushed toward the man with swords in hands. The man took out a beautiful silver sword and clashed with them. Each swing of their weapon could kill another hundred people, fortunately, there was no one around anymore. The man easily pushed back the a.s.sailants and even severed the arm of one of them.
When their friends came back, the attackers one more time released a magic, this time it was a condensed fire magic that flew toward the man. The latter clicked his tongue and his surroundings froze in an instant, only the carriage received no damage since the beginning.
The man put his hands on the ground and it froze for even bigger area "[Ice pillar]" He chanted and ice started rising from the ground and forcefully pushed the fire wave toward the sky.
And in no time, like they had predicted that outcome, the attackers one more time rushed and resumed their fight.
"Why is he doing this?" Far away, Lanya asked.
Arima smiled and glanced at her "That guy is at the tenth level, normally he should have been able to kill those guys easily. But right now, it's different, he can't use too strong magics or he could destroy more of the city and kill even more people. It seems he doesn't want that to happen. He could have killed them already if he had clashed with that fire, but it would have done irreparable consequences. Also, he hasn't moved from his position once, it seems that he is protecting that carriage, the latter seems to possess some real resistance but the attackers shouldn't be underestimated, if they attacked, they should have a plan for that carriage. That man took it in consideration and is staying beside it, he is also paying attention if there's maybe a stronger person who is hiding to attack him by surprise" Arima explained everything clearly.
Lanya listened wide eyed, she couldn't believe Arima had a.n.a.lyzed the situation so clearly. A few seconds later, Arima stood up.
"Well, should I intervene, now? It will soon be five minutes since it began, at that time it will be too late" He said and disappeared from his position, leaving Lanya behind, for her to watch.
At the same time, one of the attackers chanted something and instantly died, above his body, a red orb appeared. Another attacker took it and started chanting, along with all of the other a.s.sailants.
When the man they were fighting saw that, his countenance changed drastically "One of them killed himself and expelled his life force out his body for his comrades to use" The man gritted his teeth "They're crazy! What should I do? I can't deviate this one" He started thinking really hard but it was too late, a deafening sound resounded, and huge fire ball, with around a mile in diameter fell toward the man.
The latter's eyes narrowed when he saw that attack "b.a.s.t.a.r.ds! That's a large-scale magic! They want me to choose between the carriage or the lives of tens of thousands of innocents !?" He shouted and looked behind him toward the carriage. He bit his lip so hard that it bled.
"Sorry" He said and prepared to send that fire ball as far as he could, to minimize the number of deaths.
"You don't need to be sorry, I'll take care of it" The man's actions stopped when he heard a voice behind him. He tried to look immediately but the person who talked to him was already in front of him when he turned his head to look behind. That simple thing shocked him.
"[Libera fratres tuos fame] (Relieve your hunger)" Arima chanted slowly, and the world around him looked like it was advancing slowly.
"[T'ao t'ieh]" After Arima said his keyword, in the slowed down world, a six-legged creature, which seemed to have two bodies but only had one head, appeared. The body and head were that of a tiger. That creature howled and opened his mouth. He started to breathe in strongly. The fire ball in the sky deformed and was aspired by the big creature. The latter burped and bowed his head to Arima for the meal, before disappearing.
The flow of time returned to normal and the fire attack had disappeared. Before the a.s.sailants could react, Arima had already disappeared, leaving lightning at his original place, they looked around hurriedly and then felt something warm on their neck, when they put their hands on it, they saw blood, tainting their fingers. That was their last sight, before they fell to the ground and died beheaded.
Arima reappeared at his original place with Karma, which he sheathed and called back. The man who watched the whole scene unfold was already shocked beyond words and imagination. But it wasn't the end of it.
Arima crouched down and put his hand on the ground, a circle encompa.s.sed the entire plaza and the temperature rose for some reason.
"[Abstulit haec animas pauperum inferos] (Take back these poor souls from h.e.l.l)" Arima chanted and the sky lit up with a big orange fire, pure and beautiful. Everyone in a ten miles radius was attracted by the sight.
"[Venite Phoenix] (Come, Phoenix)" The orange flame took the form of a magnificent bird and started singing. Everything that was inside the circle began to lit up with an orange flame, but that fire didn't hurt or burn. It was just warm and enveloped everything.
At some point, the Phoenix shrieked and the flames grew in size instantly, they became brighter, until no one could see anything anymore.
It lasted for a good minute until it stopped. When the man from the royal family and Lanya opened their eyes, everything around them was repaired, every single damage caused by the fight was completely gone.
But there was something even more terrifying that had happened. The bodies laying on the ground of the plaza, some that should be totally dismembered or atomized, were totally restored and all of them moved and stood up. They looked around with a pale expression, when each of them realized that there was nothing wrong with their body, they all started crying in joy.
"…Impossible" The man uttered after he saw the what was happening, the he heard a loud gasp behind. He turned around, and a pale girl around eighteen years old, with pretty blue eyes and long blond hair, was standing by the carriage which had the door opened.
"Ofia!" The man shouted gently and approached her "Why did you come out?" He asked while taking a chair from one of the plaza's stalls. He gave it to the girl for her to seat.
"Don't worry, Kyle. Things had calmed down, I was worried so I opened to see what was happening" Ofia sat down on the chair and said, she looked really weak "Then I saw what happened" She said while looking at Arima who was not that far from them.
Kyle put himself in front of the girl and stared at Arima "Who are you?" He tried his best to be stern but he knew that he couldn't protect Ofia at all if the man in front of him attacked. Not even defending, he would be dead in seconds without realizing how.
"Brother! Please stop, that person saved tens of thousands of our citizens, you should be respectful" His sister, apparently, stopped him. Kyle looked at her and sighed. In the end, he turned toward Arima one more time and bowed.
"Sorry, and thank you, I don't know who you are, but you really saved me from doing something I would regret for my entire life" He said
Arima smiled "It's nothing much" He said and at the same time, Lanya arrived beside him and looked seriously at the situation "By the way" Arima suddenly said and took out Ira, he aimed at a totally random-looking direction and fired. The bullet flew and landed on a single person in the crow that had woken up.
Ofia widened her eyes "What are you doing?" She wanted to shout but stopped when she saw that the person who was aimed at, had caught the bullet in his hand.
The same person stared at Arima "I'm sorry, but I don't want to fight you, could you let me go?" He said with an emotionless voice.
"Sure, go, don't do things like that in the future" Arima said, which surprised not only the two siblings but also Lanya.
"Thanks" The man said and disappeared from his position.
"…Who was that?" Kyle asked carefully, he knew he couldn't be forceful against Arima. He didn't want to put himself or her sister in risk.
Arima glanced at him "That guy was most likely someone hired by the attackers, I instantly realized it by the tone of his voice. It sounded like he had nothing to with all of this. And also, if I fought him here, the city would really be destroyed" Arima said "Consider yourself lucky that he didn't act first, or else you would have died in the first minutes" He added before turning around.
Kyle was shocked and froze because of the words he just heard.
"What's your name, please?" Ofia asked before Arima had left her sight.
Arima smirked "Took you long enough" He said without turning around "I'm Arimane Blade, shouldn't be that hard for you to find out about me. I'm also called the Kind Demon" He said and left with Lanya.
Ofia kept staring until Arima had left before breathing out "Kyle, let's go back, we need to report to father quickly. I'm sure the guard is also already coming" She said to her brother soon after.
Kyle nodded "Yeah, I didn't expect them to attack so daringly in town. Also, those who attacked, they looked like they didn't feel any emotion, it was almost scary" He said and looked at the corpses of the a.s.sailants. Arima had restored the bodies but of course, he didn't resurrect them, the reason was obvious.
"You're right, let's bring them back" Ofia said after she saw the corpses and then sighed "I'd really want to know their motive" She said and returned inside the carriage along with her brother.
