"That... doctor... it is true?" Tsubaki was speechless. It took her a moment before she could verify the truth from the doctor.
"Yes." Dr. Moris.h.i.ta looked pleased. "It's so fortunate for your brother to finally have a kidney transplant before his situation further deteriorating."
"I... this is so sudden..."
Tsubaki was overwhelmed with emotions. She felt like she wanted to cry or smile at the same time. She blinked back the tears, forcing herself to calm down. She opened her mouth, looking at the doctor.
"Last time, Dr. Sakaguchi told me we would have to wait even though we found a donour since Satsuki's condition isn't dire like most of the patients in the waiting list so..."
Tsubaki last meeting with Dr. Sakaguchi only happened over a week ago. She was devastated with the announcement so when Dr. Moris.h.i.ta told her that they had finally found a compatible donour for Satsuki, she felt like she was dreaming.
"Patient Satsuki is lucky. After all, it's better for him to undergo a transplant when he's still quite healthy and doesn't require dialysis yet in his treatment. It would greatly increase his recovery and life expectancy."
That was one of the reasons why Tsubaki had always wanted Satsuki to meet a donour as soon as possible. Her brother hadn't depended on dialysis yet. She knew that for patients with kidney problems, it was the best if they could have transplants before they had to depend on dialysis.
She hoped for Satsuki to live a health and fulfilling life.
"When is the operation? Has it been decided?"
Dr. Moris.h.i.ta scanned the doc.u.ment in front of him. "The operation is scheduled in four days after we taking the patient's and donour's conditions into measures. You don't have a problem with that, right?"
"Four days?" Tsubaki was almost couldn't believe her ears.
"The sooner, the better." Dr. Moris.h.i.ta gave her and easy smile.
"But... what about the cost of the operation?"
A hefty sum was needed for a kidney transplant. Tsubaki had been saving up for Satsuki's operation but she was afraid it wasn't enough. Could she pay it in installments? For sure the hospital could take it into consideration, right?
"You don't have to worry about the cost, Miss Hanada." Dr. Moris.h.i.ta understood her worries. From Ren, he knew that she came from an ordinary family. She had been supporting herself and her brother since the death of their parents. "Someone has already paid for it."
"What? Who?"
Tsubaki was still shocked with the good news of her brother's scheduled operation, and now the doctor claimed that someone was willing to bear the cost of Satsuki's operation. This was still a good news but she couldn't deny from feeling surprised.
"Wait, doctor. Please give me a moment."
Tsubaki lowered her head, she looked at the clenched fists on her laps. She was collecting her thoughts, trying to digest the information properly. After a few deep breaths, she lifted up her head.
"So, you're saying that someone has paid for my brother's upcoming operation?" She herself couldn't believe the words she had spoken out. Is he from a charity organisation?"
"No, he's an individual with no affiliation with any charity organisations. He even paid for the aftercare treatment after the operation."
The gossipy nature in Moris.h.i.ta Toshiro was urging him to spill the truth to Tsubaki but he didn't want to court death when he himself hadn't even had a girlfriend yet. It was up to Ren when he would want to tell her.
"May I ask, who is him?"
Dr. Moris.h.i.ta smiled in regret. "I can't disclose his ident.i.ty. You would know him too, eventually. So far, he wants me to focus on your brother's surgery. It's the most important thing, right?"
Tsubaki agreed. Satsuki had found a compatible donour and she didn't have to worry about the operation cost anymore. The money could be used for Satsuki's education. The generous man would come forward if he wanted to. It was best if she didn't dwell too much into it.
"Alright. I won't probe further. If there's nothing else, I'd like to return to my brother." Tsubaki stood up, ready to leave the office.
Dr. Moris.h.i.ta nodded. "That's all for now. I'd contact you if a need arises."
"Thank you, Dr. Moris.h.i.ta. Please take good care of my brother." She bowed her head, conveying her grat.i.tude.
After Tsubaki left the office, she took a seat at a nearby bench. She didn't want to tire herself with thinking but she couldn't help it. All happened in too much a sudden. She was wondering the ident.i.ty of the generous man who had spent tens of thousands dollars for Satsuki.
Did he know Satsuki? Or was he just so rich and decided to use his money for the people in needs?
It couldn't possibly be Kitaoji Masaru. Even though he had said earlier he would find a donour for Satsuki if she agreed to marry him, he wouldn't hide his ident.i.ty like this. He would be very boastful. She was so sure of it.
A random thought struck her when she started walking to Satsuki's room. The back of a lean and tall figure appeared in her mind. Her feet stopped shorts.
Could it be...
