Gu Xijiu looked back slowly, only to see that Di Fuyi had just briefly opened his eyes. He held part of her clothes in one of his hands. However, it slipped away from his grasp when she turned to look at him, as he was still too weak to exert much energy.
He woke up! He was really awake! His eyes were really open! Profoundly, he fixed his gaze on her.
Their eyes met. Gu Xijiu felt as though she was. .h.i.t by something overpowering, as all the depressing thoughts vanished almost instantaneously. Like a ray of sunlight penetrating through the dense clouds onto the earth, she was overwhelmed with immense joy. Her heart was immediately lightened from the burden that she had been clinging on. Her nose twitched, and she began to weep.
She pinched her lips into a line as she blinked to wipe away her tears. She held his hands. “You are finally awake!”
His hands were still cold. Her hands, however, were even colder than his, as though a pair of ice sticks.
Di Fuyi frowned at the encounter. “Why… Why are your hands so cold?” He turned her hand around as he intended to read her pulse.
However, he was still weak. Before he could turn her hand around, she was already holding his arm firmly as she tried to check on his condition.
His pulse was slowly approaching a normal rate and was much better than before. She heaved a sigh of relief. “Your pulse is getting better.” She then took a look at his face. “Your complexion seems better as well.” She stopped abruptly, as she began to sob.
No one would understand how afraid she had been in the past few days. She was terrified that he would never wake up, or even die.
She had finished reading his pulse, but she refused to let his hand go, as she was still afraid that he would fall back into an unconscious state once she let it go.
She did not say anything to convey her love for him, but her appearance said it all – her reddened eyes, her cold fingers, her messy hair, her dark circles and her face blotted with tears. All her body language and expressions had fully corresponded with the depth of her love for him. He could see how difficult the past few days must have been for her.
Di Fuyi clenched his fist, as he wanted to pull her closer into his arms, but he was physically too weak. He failed to move her at all. Instead, he hurt himself.
Gu Xijiu had been observing him fixedly. She could see his sudden breakout of sweats and was immediately concerned. She reached out and touched his forehead to see if anything was wrong. “Why are you suddenly sweating? Are you feeling uncomfortable? Are you hurt? Or is there anything wrong?” Consecutively, she could not hold back her questions.
“Come closer,” said Di Fuyi.
Gu Xijiu went closer as told.
“Even closer.”
Gu Xijiu was lost momentarily, as any closer would get her onto his bed.
“What do you wish to say to me? Where do you feel uncomfortable?” Gu Xijiu was more concerned about his wellbeing. However, she did as told and was half lying on his bed.
Di Fuyi patted on his side to signal her. “Come up here.”
The bed was not very s.p.a.cious, but it was enough to fit both of them.
Gu Xijiu was taken by surprise. They were going to share the same bed and pillow, but she had not yet figured out the complications between them.
It did not feel quite right to share the same bed with him just yet.
Hence, Gu Xijiu did not move an inch.
Di Fuyi sighed. “What is there to be worried about when I am in such a state? Are you that afraid of me?”
Gu Xijiu raised her brow at him. “What is there to be afraid of? Really, how are you feeling now?” She took a look at his complexion. He did look better than he was when he was still unconscious, but still pale. His lips were regaining its natural color, so he should be fine.
She had not rested well in the past four days. Now that she was finally relieved, she could barely hold on any longer. However, she did not wish to leave his side and return to her own house.
