5 – The World’s Sorrowful Transformation
Within the Defense Cabinet of the New Federal Capital …
Currently it’s early in the morning, the sun still hasn’t completely risen and the people appeared to be particularly busy.
In the middle of a lounge a holographic projection continuously played scenes of a few humans attacking each other, images of biting and swallowing, dripping blood, coupled with the screams, it looked like a low-budget movie.
Yet this really isn’t a movie, but reality.
It was from five hours ago, the images were taken at nine o’clock in the evening, Wen Han City’s time.
The warning of a viral spill has been already spread throughout the entire New China Federation – everyone in the Defense Cabinet became busy.
“What is this?” A youth of approximately twenty years of age, stood in the middle of the lounge, as he examined the recording on the holographic projection with his eyes glimmering dangerously – sharp as a hawks.
“Have you seen the movie called Resident Evil? Major Su Lei, it seems as if the plot of the movie is starting in that city, ah. However, those creatures seem to be interested in increasing their numbers, how about seizing a few for me to research?”
A frivolous voice sounded at the youth’s side, as a middle-aged scientist stepped forward – wearing a lab coat with gla.s.ses mirroring a white radiance, and a head full of long gray hair.
“Professor Heike! Please pay attention to what you say.”
The youth known as Major Su Lei stared at the slowly approaching scientist, as his imposing voice reverberated through out the lounge.
“Are you angry? It’s no wonder, being a level-A Flame Manipulator, you not being able to afford to lose your temper is also normal – however, Major Su Lei, what I said is down to business.”
On the scientist’s gla.s.ses, that covered the ash black eyes, was reflected a somewhat sly mood.
“The preliminary judgement is that the disaster was caused by the city’s water supply being contaminated by a virus, resulting in a chain infection. The infected will become extremely aggressive and famished. Additionally, they don’t … to say that they eat food, that would be the flesh and blood of living people.”
Saying until here, the scientist called Heike adjusted his gla.s.ses, then spat a terrifying fact after being silent for some time.
“If we don’t hurry and seal that city, then perhaps it will turn into a disaster on a global scale.”
“Where did the virus come from?” Su Lei gave the scientist a piercing look.
“Hey, I wouldn’t dare to make something with such dire consequences for humanity. Although in normal circ.u.mstances, with your branch’s help, I have made similar experiments with several convicts, but all of them were failures.
Heike’s tone had a bit of desire in it, as pointed at the zombie, that could rip a person into pieces, in the background of the projected recording.
“The city’s residents are already beyond saving. How about giving me the control over the city? Perhaps I can tame these fascinating creatures.”
Power, fierceness, battle thirst, evolution, and with countless numbers.
It’s practically an undying race with it’s sole purpose being war.
“Professor, don’t even think about involving humanity in your twisted research!” Su Lei put on his military hat and turned around to leave the lounge: “This city is going to be personally managed by me! I will settle this disaster!”
“The New China Federation merely has six level-A Power Users, the commitment of one of them sounds really a.s.suring … however, ah, Major Su Lei.”
Heike was pointing at the pictures that were continuously transmitted from all over that city.
“If you don’t hurry a little, then it seems like the New China Federation will have several more Level-A Power Users, oh, no … creatures!”
This pack of evolved … guys.
Su Lei didn’t answer the man and directly strode out of the Defense Cabinet.
“Tch!”
At a residential district, in the afternoon, Lu Qiu sat within a room, he was biting on his thumb while watching what appeared on the computer screen.
The curtains in the room have already been pulled shut. As a Vampire, Lu Qiu can be hurt by the sunshine.
“To react so quickly, the new federation, that waste, is still somewhat capable.”
In this information age, the information about the disaster in this city was spread then overnight in the whole New China Federation by the means of the internet.
The government wants to hide in Tibet.
It nearly became the headline of major newspapers.
‘Virus spill’ ‘Real-life Resident Evil?’ ‘The Judgement day is nigh’ ‘G.o.d is punishing mankind’
All the t.i.tles talk about what’s happening in that city.
“Humans, it’s nothing more than a prelude, ah.”
Lu Qiu is more concerned about the way the country is handling the city.
The adopted measure was a seal off policy, the city’s major channels and roads were all closed off by a high fence, furthermore, heavy infantry was dispatched to guard it.
If one wants to leave the city, one needs to be checked whether one carries the virus.
Those infected close to the edge of the city will be stricken down by fire arms.
Last night, after Lu Qiu dumped the virus into the water supply, the first batch of infected had already appeared ten minutes later
When the first batch of infected appeared, Lu Qiu did not get any Despair Points.
Those that were directly infected by the drinking water and choked to death, won’t they despair, ah?
So after the second batch of infected appeared, large amounts of Despair Points poured into Lu Qiu.
Those that were close relatives, lovers and friends just a while ago, turned into monsters, as their corpses were left with a sense of hunger.
That would definitely lead anyone to die in despair.
“System.”
Lu Qiu called out in his mind towards the World Destruction System.
For the destruction degree to only rise by 2% wasn’t a surprise to Lu Qiu. Humanity is rather quite tenacious, as only one city suffering from the viral infection is not enough to have any noticeable effect. Apparently, to have the whole world being infected by the virus would require a great effort. The current primary goal is to breach the city’s defensive perimeter established by the army and spread the virus outwards. The level-2 infected are probably the result of evolution of the infected bodies, if Lu Qiu’s guess isn’t wrong, then The Hunter that yesterday at night was directly injected by the virus was such a being. Lu Qiu is unclear of it’s current location. Just now, the Despair Points made Lu Qiu lose his interest towards that powerful infected.
More than 50,000 Despair Points! That signifies that more than 50,000 humans had already died in despair, and became Lu Qiu’s strength. “Should I exchange something good for it?” When Lu Qiu thought until here he could’t help but give out a laugh – humans that put themselves on a pedestal, ah, you’re about the get what you deserve.1 Lu Qiu wasn’t anxious to strengthen his abilities, the blood sucking specie in and of itself is a race capable of evolution. Being Lu Qiu’s capital, the direction of the evolution needs to be well thought – after all, although the current Despair Points seem to be a lot, yet they aren’t when used to exchange. Just now … Lu Qiu felt the fangs in his mouth expressing a desire. Hungry … Lu Qiu clutched his stomach – that’s right, last night he had some fresh blood, but not a virgin’s. It was to unpalatable, so Lu Qiu didn’t drank much of it. I need to scavenge, ah. Although there’s blood to be exchanged from the system, but Lu Qiu prefers to suck on the fresh blood that is spilled out of the human body. Lu Qiu now has a surprising desire for blood, him being hungry is one aspect of it, the other one is the smell of blood that fills this room.2 This is a very ordinary residence, but it was changed into a tragic scene ever since last night. A family of three lived in this home, Lu Qiu stood up from in front of the computer desk, followed the smell of blood through the living room and stopped at the kitchen doorway. He then looked at the source of the strong smell of blood. “Cough, ah … chomp” Bone chilling chewing and swallowing sounds were heard. Lu Qiu half-squatted down in order to take a better look at this scene, two adult’s corpses were lying in the kitchen. It’s already impossible to tell which was male and which was female. Blood flowed on the floor, internal organs and bones for everyone to see, and between the two adult’s corpses, a small body was laboriously … Laboriously eating today’s dinner … Probably only seven or eight years old, Lu Qiu watched as the figure was incessantly trembling, pale arms were clutching flesh, the small body was ravenously devouring it until it’s mouth was stuffed fool.3 It’s a little girl, with long and pretty black hair, wearing white dress full of scarlet blood and other filth. It should have been a good child, judging by the outward appearance. But now, ah … “It’s also a good child!” Lu Qiu’s hand gently caressed her forehead. The little girl’s pupils have already become completely white, full of blood on its little face and flesh in its mouth that still hadn’t been swallowed. “Are your papa and mama tasty?” Lu Qiu found them like this on arrival. Supposedly, the daughter had carelessly drank the infected water and turned into a zombie – the parents haven’t been aware of the situation when they were killed, n.o.body would have thought that their own treasured daughter would suddenly go mad and bite at them. Now she’s already eaten about half of her parents. The little girl didn’t answer Lu Qiu, she’s already lost her sense of self, and turned into a monster that only knows how to devour human meet. “I’m a Vampire, ah, I’m dead and therefore not interesting?” Lu Qiu smelled the heavy scent of blood, and couldn’t help but wanting to have a meal with the little girl. Although having a meal together whit a peaceful and adorable little girl is quite nice, but Lu Qiu is a Vampire and not a Ghoul, therefore, he’s unable to eat corpses. “Hmm?” Lu Qiu’s sharp sense of hearing suddenly detected that the neighboring corridor seems to have footstep sounds, they didn’t appear to be a zombie’s … but rather a living human’s. Lu Qiu stood up, slowly walked towards the door and used the peephole to look at the corridor, towards the place from where the sound came. There were altogether three people, two men and a young girl, the female seemed to be dressed like a school girl and looked to be around 17 years old. Additionally … still a … virgin … Lu Qiu covered his mouth, as a desire to suck blood suddenly overcame him. But the imposing leading male unexpectedly held an a.s.sault rifle in his hands! Looking by his vicious temperament, he should have already fired it and killed people … Lu Qiu doesn’t has an ability to resist bullets, he can’t even resist when being shot by a regular gun, let alone being shot by the violent downpour of an a.s.sault rifle. However … so hungry! Lu Qiu looked with desire at the one in the back, at the young girl with an appalled complexion. Just then, after Lu Qiu heard the swallowing noises coming from the kitchen, suddenly … there was a way! “Do you like little girls?” Lu Qiu had sly smile.
