Sheila had always thought of her mistress as a delicate and weak lady, someone who couldn’t harm a single bug or animal. So it was disconcerting for her to hear her sweet and gentle mistress defend a monstrous murderer with such conviction. But the facts in front of her were irrefutable. Perhaps she never knew her mistress.
“Yes, I didn’t know at first he was not the real Wenda, but gradually as we spent more time together I came to realize the truth. He knew I knew, but he didn’t hurt me. He loves me very much, but to be with me he had to kill many people, even the real Wenda. Where else in the world will I find someone who loves me as much as that?”
“But he’s a murderer!” Sheila shouted. It was the first time she had ever shouted at her mistress.
“So? What does that matter? He loves me. I love him. Everything he’s done, he’s done for me. What’s wrong with doing things for the one you love?! Being in love is not a crime!” Dusha was like a crazed woman in love. She was willing to sacrifice everything.
“You’re wrong. Your love is incredibly selfish. It makes a mockery of true love.” Pierre walked in with many soldiers behind him. Dusha and Sheila were easily surrounded.
Wolf had reported his intentions to the mayor before setting out to the manor, so many soldiers and magicians were dispatched as backup to help him.
He used a special means of communication to talk to those outside and had filled them in on what had happened before chasing after the asura. The moment he left they charged into the manor to arrest Dusha for harboring an asura and for injuring Wolf.
“Xiao Wu, sorry I’m so late.” Pierre coldly looked at the two women on the ground. His gaze only warmed when it turned to Feng Wu.
“Yes.” Feng Wu nodded. Turning to Dusha she said, “Mr. Wenda told me to tell you that the thing he regrets most in life was saving you.”
“What? Stop making stuff up. Wenda is dead!” Dusha was startled by the new entrants in the room but she quickly came to her senses, certain Feng Wu was just trying to scare her.
Why would Feng Wu bother scaring her? She only spoke the truth. Wenda’s ghost had always been in the manor.
Seeing that the other woman didn’t believe her, Feng Wu felt the need to prove her words. “Do you want to see him?”
Naturally the best way to prove it was to let Dusha see Wenda’s spirit with her own eyes. But Feng Wu didn’t know how to show him to someone who couldn’t see him.
“If the lady wishes to see, I have a way.” The old necromancer appeared behind the soldiers. He took out a bottle from his s.p.a.ce ring and sprayed both Dusha and Sheila’s eyes with it.
The two were just ordinary woman, how could they have avoided it?
Once sprayed they saw a different world. Not far away was a lingering blood spirit. It was Wenda’s soul. They could see how miserably he died just by looking at his spirit form. His clothes were drenched in so much blood they crinkled and puffed. His eyes were blank and tired.
“Ghosts! Ghosts!” Both Dusha and Sheila shouted in fright. They paled terribly.
“Mr. Wenda, is that you?” Pierre had willingly let the old necromancer spray his eyes as well. He wanted to see his elder, the one from his memories.
“Pierre, I haven’t seen in you so long. How is my Clara?” Wenda was a gentle man and his biggest concern was his daughter. He knew she was in detention but there was nothing he could do. As a spirit he was bound to the manor and could only roam its grounds.
Pierre looked at the elder who had always been kind to him. His heart broke. “Clara is fine. Now that the asura is found she should be released soon.” He tried his best to hide his sadness.
“You’re really Big Brother Wenda?” Dusha didn’t dare believe it. She had known Wenda died but never dreamed after death his spirit was so tragic. That his spirit was still around surprised her.
“Dusha, if I could do it all over again, I would have nothing to do with you. To think my family’s tragedy was single-handedly caused by you.” Wenda laughed bitterly. It was a sad sorrowful sound that made one’s heart ache.
“No. No! No! It had nothing to do with me.” Dusha shook her head in fear.
Sheila had been hiding behind Dusha but she hadn’t said a word. She was frozen stiff from fright.
“Nothing to do with you? You still won’t own up to it? If it weren’t for you saying those things to the asura, after Malin’s visit, would the asura have done anything? You were afraid my daughter would find out the truth and ruin everything for you so you constantly complained to the asura about how you didn’t want to live with her. That’s why he developed those murderous intentions. He would not have used Malin’s death to frame her otherwise. You are a grave disappointment Dusha. I caused Malin and Clara grave harm by saving you. It was like leading wolf to my own door!”
Wenda’s face contorted into an ugly image as he harshly shouted at Dusha.
“No! I didn’t ask him to kill anyone. My wish was simple. I just wanted to live happily with those that loved me. Why?! Why won’t people let me be happy?!” Dusha’s voice was full of grievance at the unfair world.
Those around saw first hand how selfish and weak Dusha was. She was wailing about her poor fate to the very man who saved her from dest.i.tution, to the very man whose family she destroyed, that she didn’t understand why no one wanted her to be happy.
