Chapter 8: As I Thought, I Have To Escape
I was finally let go.
As I limply stretched out on the sofa, I looked outside, and it was completely dark.
After that, Clark-sama endlessly, yes, it really went on for forever, talked about what exactly about me he liked, as well as found charming, and because he hadn't finished by the time dinner time came, we had dinner here like that. After eating, this time, he whispered really seductive, horrible things for my heart, like how my eyes are pretty, as well as my ears. Before long, as if he was satisfied, he went back.
What's with that? Is he really in love with me?
He was never like that until I ran away, but the truth was that he's been properly hitting on me since before that.
I have no memories of it whatsoever, but he said that during my breaks from the princess training, Clark-sama would hit on me during tea time everyday, without fail. Since I wasn't interested, I absolutely didn't listen to his story. I would only give the right responses at the appropriate times.
Now that I mentioned that, he'd always make a sad-looking face, but it couldn't be helped because the only thing I had on my mind during those times was what to do to be able to do the things I used to do, and for that to happen, how to cancel the engagement.
“Hey, there's no helping it, huh? That's what you're thinking.”
“No, I'm thinking that the prince looks pitiful as usual.”
I was hoping that Maria would agree to that, but I was immediately denied.
By the way, Maria returned around the time dinner was being prepared. Since it's her job, she can't be missing. It's hard being a maid, huh?
“But it's amazing how you've ignored his seduction everyday for ten years.”
“That's cause I was thinking, “Ah, he's chattering about something,” so the contents of it wouldn't enter my head.”
“You really weren't interested in the prince.”
“What had my interest at that time was freedom.”
“That's rather pure of you.”
“Thanks.”
I made a delicate face as I gave her my thanks. I know, I know that you're not praising me!
“Did madam's brother not say anything about the prince?”
“Well, he would tell me, ‘The prince told me he loved you today as well,' but because he'd also say, ‘Anyways, he told me he wants to get married,' I just ignored it.”
“…”
Maria, I'd like you to stop looking at me without saying anything.
“I used to think, ‘I feel a little sorry for madam,' but now, I think, ‘You reap what you sow.'”
“Why? Aren't I pitiful? Don't you feel sorry for me? Sympathize with me properly.”
“No, it's your just desserts.”
“True, it's sort of my fault, but don't you think being confined is too much?!”
“From what I've heard of the story, I can't say anything for now.”
“But see, there are various things that you do before you confine them! A lot of things like whispering words of love, or telling you of his love… love…”
‘Ah,' as I made a face, Maria pointed out.
“The prince whispers to you, doesn't he?”
“…He does whisper.”
“He's told of you of his love with all his heart, right?”
“…From the looks of it.”
“Then, since you couldn't do anything about it, you escaped, but you couldn't escape at all.”
“…True.”
I unconsciously nodded, but no, no!
“But even so, confining me is just weird! It's true that the prince couldn't have it his way because I had nothing else in my head except breaking it off by all means, but that's just it, see, I'm pretty sure there are other ways of doing it!”
I'm pretty sure there's other ways of dealing with this situation. There must be something that coincides with my… interest, right…?
Even as I looked to Maria for agreement, she shook her head.
“Don't you think he would have exhausted all of that?”
“That's definitely not it… right?”
“Sorry, I wouldn't know.”
So cold.
“Even though you were so kind to me earlier, why are you so cold to me?”
“No, it's because since I'm 17 years old, it's around the time when girls are in love about love. So I'd like to a.s.sist Clark-sama in his love.”
“Eh, wait, why?”
“He's too pitiful.”
“But I'm plenty pitiful as well?”
“Since it's you, not really.”
“So mean!”
I feigned my weeping, and as I took a peek at Maria, she only watched in silence. My fake crying has been exposed. Stopping my crocodile tears, I raised my head.
“Then, it's fine that it's my fault, but could you stop with the madam?”
“The madam is a madam.”
“I'm not even married yet.”
“If you were married, I'd call you Crown Princess-sama instead, but until then, I've decided that I'll be calling you madam.”
“Married to who?”
“To the prince.”
“See, that's definitely Clark-sama!”
I hit the table with a bang.
Maria ignored that and confirming the time on the clock hanging on the wall, she bowed to me.
“Excuse me madam, I'll have to go back soon. Please have a good night.”
“I'm not a madam.”
“Good night.”
“Good night…”
Without correcting the madam part, I replied to her as she left the room.
Why is everyone on Clark-sama's side? Having zero people on mine, isn't that unfair?
I breathed out a sigh as I looked at the window. Even with the twinkling stars spread all over the night sky, the moon outshone them all.
“A full moon, huh?”
I muttered that, and I returned my gaze inside the room.
Huh?
I looked around at my surroundings.
“I'm all alone right now…”
If so, I have to take action immediately. First off, I have to confirm that no one's by the window. And secure a thick book from this room. Covering that in my sleepwear, I excitedly swung it about.
Okay, this'll do!
I threw that at the window.
The window made a crashing sound as it broke. I hurriedly leaned out from there. I have to hurry before a soldier comes!
Because my clothes were fluttering, it couldn't be helped that running would be difficult. But even so, I ran towards the exit with all my strength.
“Hehehe, freedom–!”
As I shouted that, a hand wrapped around my waist and hugged me tightly from behind. The hand sunk into my waist, and brought me back.
‘Huh?' As something covered my mouth, I thought, ‘I remember this feeling,' and fearfully turned around.
“Letty.”
With who I expected it to be, ‘of course it'd be him,' I thought as he pulled in my face.
I earnestly thought, ‘His smiling face in the dark is definitely scary.'
Clark-sama brought his mouth close to my ear.
“Which do you prefer for your necklace, diamond or pearl?”
I don't think that's what we should be talking about right now.
Lol well, at least Letty's finally more conscious of him, but poor Clark. I feel bad for him, ngl.
Edit: This series will be put on a hiatus because author is having it published. We will resume when the LN comes out, thank you for your understanding guys!
E/N: Well, I certainly agree with Maria. Although I pity Leticia a bit, I pity Prince Clark even more.
Author: adorkablerikaName's Erika. For some dumb reason, I decided to major in Physics. I'm stuck in this major now. I used to translate manga and light novels a few years back, left, then came back cause I found some good novels to read. I'm the only TLer on my site, so rip. I'm apparently also good at drawing, and I also like kpop (BTS, I mean, I have Hobi as my pic). I don't bite, so feel free to chat me up on here or on NU @adorkablehiko.
