When he got back into the bedroom, he paused at the sight of Liz looking for something while wearing his t-shirt and holding her dress, one shoe, and a bra in her hand.
"You are going like that?"
She glanced at herself. "Anything wrong? This t-shirt is reaching almost as the dress, and I need to wash it before returning it to you anyway. It's just across the hallway, no one will see me. I will go like this and change after shower. You don't mind waiting in the living room, do you? You can watch the TV until I'm ready. No more than ten minutes. Where did you keep my purse? How about my shoes? I found only one here…"
Max was not sure which question to answer, she said so many things… "I don't mind waiting. Your purse is in the living room…"
A minute later Max looked at Liz and burst into a hearty laugh. He tried not to, but she was wearing high heeled shoes, his light-gray t-shirt, which was obviously oversized for her, but it also looked like a horrible baggy minidress and her hair is… messy. Oh, and she was holding a sparkly black purse, black dress and a maroon colored bra is dangling from her left pinky finger.
"What?", she asked innocently.
"I'm sorry…", he was struggling to catch his breath. "But you look like a hot mess."
Liz didn't want to entertain him. She is about to shower and change, alright? But she never saw him laugh so much, and she wanted to see for herself… "Where is a mirror?"
He pointed toward the bathroom.
She headed there and he was one step behind her.
"Ah!", she exclaimed when she saw herself.
"Hold this!" Liz pushed the dress, purse and bra into his hands and swiftly ran her fingers through her hair, twisting it into a presentable ponytail.
Liz was proud of herself. She fixed one problem.
In the hallway…
"Do I need to hold your things?", Max asked when Liz started punching the pa.s.scode to her apartment. He does not mind holding the dress or the purse, but that bra invited him more than once to touch it and to take a sniff which he resisted only because Liz is right next to him.
"It is a punishment for making fun of me. You need to work to make up for it.", she said playfully.
Max smirked. "You really think that holding onto your underwear is a punishment?"
Liz paused and turned slow motion toward Max. Somehow she forgot that her bra is right there… on display, for him to see.
She grabbed it swiftly and held it behind her back while walking backward inside her apartment.
Max chuckled at Liz's silly behavior, and he wanted to tease her: "Don't you think it's too late to hide it now? I've had a good look already, and even held it…"
…
8:58 AM
Olivia is in front of Liz's apartment and holding onto a large paper bag full of pastries.
"Are you sure you are invited?", Olivia scrutinized Quentin.
She was surprised that she is not dazed by Quentin's proximity. It seems that sticking close to Liz made her partially immune to getting lost at the sight of super-handsome men.
"Absolutely!", Quentin lied with a straight face.
Quentin heard from Brianna that there will be a breakfast event and that Olivia will come at nine. He would wait in the lobby, but then he thought that if she comes with a car and goes with the elevator straight up, he will miss her. So, he waited for Olivia in front of Liz's apartment. Joshua a.s.sumed that Quentin is going to Max's apartment, so he didn't stop him.
"Don't try to charm me with good looks!", Olivia warned Quentin when she saw his lips curl up into a bewitching smile.
"How about if I charm you with this?" He showed two bags in his hands filled with variety of breakfast items which he purchased at a bakery nearby. "How would I know to get these if I'm not invited?"
Olivia glanced inside his bags and then nodded. His story ads up. If he is not invited, how would he know when and where and to bring food? But… "Why did you wait outside?"
"I didn't want to ring the doorbell and risk waking someone up. And I knew that you are coming at nine. I arrived two minutes before you.", Quentin had it all worked out.
Olivia opened the door and gestured for him to enter while thinking that he is only one guy, and there are four girls. In case he is lying, they will kick him out and keep the bags he is currently holding onto.
"h.e.l.looo!", Olivia called when she entered. "Breakfast is here!"
Few seconds later, Mia emerged. "Hey, you must be Olivia! I'm Mia!"
Mia's eyebrows shoot up. "Quentin? I didn't expect to see you here."
He showed his charming smile and gestured toward the bags he brought. "Look what is inside and then you will realize how much you are glad to see me."
Mia glanced inside bags and then looked at him like they are best friends. "I am very glad to see that you could make it to our humble Sat.u.r.day morning gathering."
Quentin's hunch was correct. There is nothing better to win a girl than to bring her food. And there was lots of it.
Bri came out of her room two minutes later. "Quentin?"
"Hi Bri, did you miss me?"
"No.", she responded flatly. "Why are you here?"
"Don't be mean.", Mia scolded Bri. "He brought food."
Bri shook her head at her silly friend. Mia was always a glutton. Mia's loyalty can be bought by filling her belly.
Bri looked at Quentin's puppy-eyed look and thought how it's not a big deal that he is here but she will not make it easy for him. Bri went around Quentin and gave Olivia a hug while introducing herself.
"Is Liz still sleeping?", Bri asked.
"Either that or she is in the shower.", Olivia responded. "I will put coffee on for everyone and will check on her in ten minutes if she does not come out by then."
"I've got the plates!", Mia said with a big grin while arranging plates on the table in the living room.
"Let me help with pastries.", Bri extended her hand to take the bags.
Quentin was next to Bri in a second, holding the bags instead of her. "Allow me."

Bri shook her head helplessly and exhaled. It seems that Quentin has a thicker skin than she thought.
Few minutes later, Olivia, Mia, Bri and Quentin were around the table filled with pastries and variety of other breakfast items. There was a lot of food. Olivia got more than needed for four of them, and Quentin got for at least ten people.
They were waiting for the coffee to be ready.
Mia looked at Quentin and Bri. She knows that the two of them left the Black Rose nightclub together.
"So, are you two an item now?"
Quentin looked at Bri hopefully, and Bri rolled her eyes. She turned to Mia and said flatly: "He is a six."
"A six?", Mia grimaced.
Quentin wanted to stop this landslide coming his way, but he didn't have a single idea how to.
"What is a six?", Olivia asked.
"It is how we measure if the guy is…", Mia's explanation was interrupted by the front door opening.
They all turned that way and saw Liz walking in backward while holding onto a bra behind her back, wearing high heeled shoes and an oversized t-shirt.
Max's voice traveled inside: "Don't you think it's too late to hide it now? I've had a good look already, and even held it…"
Max paused when his sight landed on four people who gaped at the two of them.
Liz felt that something is not right and turned around.
She closed her eyes and sighed. Why are four sets of eyes directed at her like she was caught doing something naughty? Why didn't she check the time while in Max's apartment? How is she going to explain this?
After some time, she opened her eyes and saw that Olivia, Bri, Mia and Quentin are still gaping at them, they didn't move a muscle.
"Uhm… This is not what it looks like.", Liz said while waving her hands defensively.
