Ariana finally understood that magic was not all what it was cracked up to be. It hindered the evolution of human kind and kept the world that she was now residing in practically in the dark ages. "I wonder if what you are looking for is at Capital University." Xander said as he closed his book. "I doubt it." Icarus said as he crossed his arms and closed his eyes. "Honestly it seems like something dangerous. Borderline anarchy." He said. "How so?" Ariana asked. "Well think about it. If something that seems so amazing successfully replaces something that is miraculous who would lose the most?" Icarus asked as he opened one eye and looked at Ariana.
"... The church." Ariana replied with great hesitation. "Exactly!" Icarus proclaimed as he pounded the table. "It wouldn't be by much though. I mean the jewel eyed priestess has not performed as many miracles as she had done in the past. Even then one has to 'donate' a substantial amount of money to the church to even be put on the waiting list." Xander said with a melancholy look. "What do you mean by waiting list?" Ariana asked. "Well I guess you're not very religious are you?" Xander asked as he raised an eyebrow.
"I can proudly say I have never entered a church since I was two days old." Ariana said with a puffed out chest. "Strangely specific." Icarus said with a laugh. "Not really. If you knew her well enough you would know she was being dead serious." A familiar voice said. Ariana looked up and started to beam. "You guys came!"
"We just handed in our own drafts." Edlyn said as they reached the table. Talisha frowned, the table Ariana and the boys were sitting at only accommodated four people. She went over to another table, easily picked it up and had Halina grab two more chairs. Talisha placed the ends of the table side by side just as Edlyn sat bashfully beside Xander. "So where haven't you gone to since you were two days old?" Halina asked as she put the chairs down. Each girl looked at the seat next to Icarus and nodded. They decided to sit beside each other instead, opposite of Icarus.
"Church." Ariana said bluntly.
"Ugh! Don't mention that awful place to me." Halina groaned as she rubbed her arms. Gooseb.u.mps appeared in her body as she recalled what her mother's letter said. "Careful with your words. Not everyone views the church the same way us girls do." Talisha said as half her face became dark. "At least we are on the same page." Icarus said as he balled his hands into fists. "I can never forgive them, especially the priestess. Twisted snake, sucks the good out of everything she touches. Helping the church extort money from everyone regardless of their personal situations." Icarus spat.
Everyone had gone silent. the girls looked at Ariana but she had already shrouded her face. "I think I have enough for my draft." Ariana said as she started to quickly collect her things. "Wait." Icarus said as he grabbed Ariana's wrist. "I don't think you're ready to hand it in yet." Icarus said with a pleading undertone. Ariana pulled her wrist free and started to rub it with her other hand. As if Icarus's touch was something detestable. "It's a draft. Once I speak with my grandmother I will be able to get my book. Then I can make more notes and add it on to my draft later." Ariana said shortly as she gave Icarus a cold glare. "Thank you so much for your help. I will be going now." Ariana said as she grabbed the books. She then got her bag and walked towards the front desk, carrying all the books they had the minny kappy collect for them earlier. "Sorry, we came to help Ariana... We will be leaving too." Edlyn said as she bowed to Xander. "Oh... Do you need me-um, us to walk you back to the dorms?" Xander asked as he got up from his chair.
Edlyn lifted herself up and looked at Talisha and Halina. They didn't give her ni indication that they cared what she would do. "I'm sorry. Maybe next time." Edlyn said before they turned and chased after Ariana. "They left pretty fast. Did I say something wrong?" Icarus asked. Xander's face paled as he glared at Icarus. "Most likely." He replied.
Ariana was fighting the urge to cry as she approached the front desk. She wasn't particularly attached to this body's mother. Her soul was only residing inside the empty body but she couldn't stop her feelings from welling up, in all honesty her heart ached. She needed something to distract her from her feelings and she caught sight of Gregory being hara.s.sed by Ms. Boswell. Ariana smirked as she approached the desk. "What time are you done?" Ariana asked as the placed the large pile of books on top of the counter. "Who are you asking?" Ms. Boswell asked as she grabbed Gregory's arm and embraced it with her whole body.
"I was asking." Ariana said but was rudely interrupted by Ms. Boswell who raised her hand to Ariana's face, signaling for her to stop talking.
"I'm here until closing time. If you have more work to do you are welcome to come back but be warned we close at 8:00 p.m. on Fridays. 8 o'clock sharp. Please understand that 'employees' need to have the right to have their old knees up." Ms. Boswell said as she looked up at Gregory.
"That's nice." Ariana said as she gently pushed Ms. Boswell's hand to the side. "But I wasn't asking you." Ariana said with a small smile. "I was asking." Ariana tried to explain again but was rudely interrupted by Ms. Boswell slamming her palm against the counter. She immediately let Gregory's arm go and brought an accusing finger to Ariana's face. Edlyn, Talisha and Halina just came in time to see Ms. Boswell's face twist with anger and contempt. "Look here! Just because you have nice baps on you and a young face doesn't mean that you can go out on a pull tonight! Wanting to snog an older gentleman like a twit! Honestly you're nothing but a chav and should go home to your mother! Stop pestering the adults! He ain't into you! So ta ta." Ms. Boswell shouted so loudly that it called everyone's attention.
Edlyn turned red as she watched what happened and was already stomping her feet towards Ms. Boswell. The moment she glanced at Ariana and caught sight of her tears, Edlyn stopped mid rage and froze. "I'm so sorry... Dad... I didn't think I was bothering you.... I just wanted to talk to you about tomorrow." Ariana sniffed as tears spilled from her eyes. Edlyn quickly embraced Ariana and started to stroke the back of her head. "Sorry Mr. Drake, I think it's best I walk Ariana back. She was really excited to see her mom and grandmother tomorrow. I know it's been hard on the both of you being away from home for so long." Edlyn said in a pitiful voice.
Ms. Boswell paled drastically as her accusing finger became limp. She dared herself to turn around but couldn't do it. Gregory was emitting such a dark aura behind her that it sent chills down Ms. Boswell's body. "Daddy, I'm so sorry. I won't bother you at work anymore! I'll be a good girl!" Ariana cried harder and the people in the library started to murmur. "I think it's best if we leave." Edlyn said as she cuddled against Ariana's head. "Goodnight Mr. Drake." Edlyn said coldly as she guided Ariana towards the exit. "Have a good night Mr. Ariana's dad." Halina shouted as she gave Gregory a deep bow. "Don't worry we'll take care of her sir." Talisha said as she grabbed Halina and raced out the exit.
"Okay, you should be fine now." Edlyn said as she let Ariana go. "Hahaha! Did you see their faces! I don't know who was more shocked Gregory or Ms. B*tch face!" Ariana laughed as she slapped her own thigh. "You're pretty mean when you want to be." Halina said as she looked back. "What?! Me? No way!" Ariana said as a wide grin spread across her face. She then causally placed her hands behind her head and walked. "Gregory says I owed him one and getting that old hag off his back was what he wanted." Ariana replied with a wicked smirk. "So he wasn't interested in her?" Halina asked. "Heavens no! Honestly it was borderline s.e.xual hara.s.sment. She openly told me that she wanted to dine on his private parts." Ariana said as she dropped her arms and gave them a disgusted face. "I just wanted to ask him something and that witch got all snotty with me."
"Well looks like you get that chance now. He's running towards us." Talisha said as she caught sight of Gregory. "Oh sh*t! I'm dead!" Ariana shouted as she ran for her life, leaving Edlyn, Halina and Talisha behind. "Brat! Do you think you can run from me?!" Gregory yelled as he ran past the girls. "Daddy I'm sorry!" Ariana cried loudly. "Who the h.e.l.l is your father?!" Gregory shouted back. "I guess he wasn't okay with it." Talisha said with a small shrug. "Should we follow them to make sure he doesn't kill her?" Halina asked. "I don't think he will. Since he is her guardian at the school." Edlyn said before she started walking after them. "No sh*t." Talisha said as she walked beside Edlyn. "So in a sense he is her father." Talisha laughed. "A reluctant one apparently." Edlyn sighed.
"How dare you say that in front of so many people! Our relationship was something secret!" Gregory roared. Ariana dared herself to look back and saw Gregory's face. She screamed internally as a demon face Gregory was catching up to her. "Don't kill me please!" Ariana cried as she tried to pick up her speed. "When I'm done with you, you will wish I had." Gregory shouted. Ariana could really feel her adrenaline coursing through her veins now. She found a new sense of self preservation especially when she spotted the female dormitory. Ariana pushed forward and used the last of her strength to just barely escape Gregory's clutches. Ariana let out a loud, victorious laugh when she saw how close she was to the building.
"Don't think you can hide from me!" A high pitched voice shouted. Ariana was caught off guard and looked back. Her curiousity betrayed her and she stumbled. Ariana started falling forward, she stretched out her hands to brace herself for impact. "What is going on out here?" Ms. Hadley asked sternly as she opened the front door to the dormitory. "Ms. Hadley, apologizes for the intrusion but I have business with this student here." Gregory said with a his chipmunk voice.
"Ariana?" Ms. Hadley called out as she rushed over to her. "Are you alright?" She asked as she placed her hands on Ariana's shoulders, helping her to rise slightly. Ariana's body was shaking violently, she had broken out into a sweat and refused to look at Ms. Hadley directly. "Mr. Drake, I'm afrraid whatever business you have with my student can be postponed. I must take her to the infirmary immediately." Ms. Hadley said as she helped Ariana off of the ground. "Ms. Hadley, I a.s.sure you that the child is alright." Gregory said with a heavy sigh. Ariana's body started to tremble more.
"Ariana?" Ms. Hadley called out gently, trying her best to mask the worry she had. Ariana raised her head and met Ms. Hadley's gaze. Her face was beat red, tears streaming from her eyes and lips so tightly shut that they turned ghostly white. "Ariana?" Gregory called out. Ariana turned to Gregory and saw his permanetly furrowed brows drop to the side, as concern showed on his face. Ariana couldn't hold it in any longer and let everything out. She laughed harder and harder with each breath. "I am so sorry Greg! I can't hold it in anymore!" Ariana laughed as she hugged her abdomen.
"Well Ms. Hadley do you still think she needs to go to the infirmary?" Gregory asked with a begrudging tone. Ms. Hadley let out a sigh of relief before she turned to Gregory. "Mr. Drake what business do you have with my student that you were willing to chase her into my territory?" Ms. Hadley asked asked as she adjusted her gla.s.ses. "Personal." Gregory responded flatly. "I will not accept that answer." Ms. Hadley said as her gla.s.ses flashed and she puffed herself out to look more intimidating. "Ms. Hadley, sorry my father wants to speak with me about tomorrow but I was teasing him." Ariana said as she started to take deep breaths in between her laughter.
"Who's your father?!" Gregory shouted as his face flushed red. "Sorry! I misspoke! My guardian." Ariana laughed as she doubled over. "Then I will take me leave. Ariana I want to speak with you after you have spoken with your... guardian." Ms. Hadley said as she eyed Gregory. "Wait! Ms. Hadley!" Gregory shouted. Ms. Hadley turned to met Gregory's gaze but she could only give him a bored expression. "Can you please remove this curse?" Gregory asked pitifully. "Why should I? You tresspa.s.sed and now you have to deal with the consequences. Do not worry in three days time you will be back to normal." Ms. Hadley said coldly as she briskly turned and started to walk away. "Ms. Hadley please! My family will be here tomorrow for family day. I can not recieve them like this!" Gregory shouted.
"You broke a rule. This is not my problem." Ms. Hadley said flatly as she continued to walk. "Then please remove the curse so I can properly speak to Ariana." Gregory said as he stared at Ariana. At this point Ariana could barely breath as Gregory continued talking, she was already back on the cobblestone road, pounding the road with her fist. Ms. Hadley stopped walking and turned to see Ariana. With a heavy sigh she called out her familiar and gave her explicit instructions. "Peppa will give you the antidote. Please remember next time to speak with me prior to crossing into my territory." Ms. Hadley said coolly before going back into the dorm building. It didn't take Peppa long to retrieve the antidote, she handed the vial to Gregory then left to go back to her master. Ariana eyed the vial of red liquid with green and purple bubbles then looked at Grgeory curiously. "You drank that before." Ariana said but Gregory just ignored her statement and emptied the contents of the vial into his mouth, swallowing as fast as he could. Gregory's face turned green. The taste was the same as before but he refused to move the vial from his lips until he was sure he swallowed the last drop. "Disgusting." He said as he wiped his mouth.
"Too bad. I enjoyed your chipmunk voice." Ariana said with a pout. "Why did you announce that I was your father." Gregory said darkly as he met Ariana's gaze. "In a sense, it is slightly true." Ariana replied as she averted her gaze. "No it is not. Do you think I want people thinking that I gave birth to a wretched girl like yourself." Gregory sneered as a vein popped out from his neck. "Who cares what others think. People will find out that I'm adopted soon enough. Besides, I got the horrible woman off of you. Honestly you should be thanking me. The way she was clinging on to your arm, I think you kinda enjoyed yourself." Ariana said bluntly as she crossed her arms over her chest. "You didn't have to ruin my reputation." Gregory said as more veins started to pop out from his face and neck. "Ha! Reputation! It is nothing but a restraint on your individuality. If she honestly liked you then she would not s.e.xually hara.s.s you! Nor would she belittle a student. Our minds are young and impressionable! If I wasn't so mature I would have taken what she said to heart! Mind you I only understood half of what she said but the point is I could have been traumatized. Then what would happen to your beloved reputation?" Ariana asked as her temper started to rise.
"What would you know about reputations in high society? What would Petunia think if this rumour made it to her? I want you to clear this mess up immediately!" Gregory shouted as his amber eyes flashed with b.l.o.o.d.y rage. "Petunia?! Why the h.e.l.l would it matter to her? You haven't even found her yet and your worried about a rumour in school? How stupid can you be? Chances are she still locked away with the members of the church and will never hear about this." Ariana spat. "You little b*tch!" Gregory yelled as he walked up to Ariana and slapped her across the face. "Think of someone else for a change! You selfish brat! Even if she is locked away and this reaches her do you not even think for a second that this could make her lose all hope of living?! I agree that I am stupid! Stuipid enought to agree to be your guardian. Stupid enough to protect you. Stupid enough to even forget that you are some half breed monster! Your mother may have been a fine lady but I know your father was a monster who most likely r*ped your mother! That's why she died after giving birth to you! She couldn't stand knowing that she brought a monstrosity into this world!" Gregory yelled so loudly that some of the students actually opened their windows to watch the show.
"Take it back." Ariana whispered. "Speak up half breed." Gregory laughed. "Take it back." Ariana said a little louder. "Ha like I would ever listen to you." Gregory sneered. "Take it back!" Ariana yelled as rage shone in her eyes. "In your dreams." Gregory said with a heavy sigh and turned to leave. "My mother loved my father dearly! She risked everything to make sure I was born safely! I will not have you belittle my family because of your hurt ego!" Ariana screamed as she jumped on top of Gregory. "Holy sh*t she lost her mind!" Talisha yelled as her and the others reached the quart yard of the female dorms.
