Nighttime.
Shanghai, Starryfu District.
In a tall high-rise infrastructure, Moonlight Incorporated. In the simple white office, the room was surrounded by numerous items: desks, whiteboards, closets, and advanced computers. At the front, there was a short, squat tower topped by a wide, gently sloping octagonal roof.
The entire time after Feng Hui's departure, the group had been encompa.s.sed in an awkward silence. Xu Tian sat down clumsily on a couch, and he kept his head down. Outside the building, danger lurked about everywhere; therefore, the group could not leave due to fear. Like that, hours had pa.s.sed under this stuffing atmosphere. Luckily, food and water weren't a problem. As a top company, precautions for disasters had been made.
Feng Mei was silent, and she looked dead inside. Every second, she thought, "Why?"
Feng Mei tried to understand her elder brother's mind, and she had thought of a million possibilities. As siblings, the two were unbelievably close. Truthfully, she understood Feng Hui's character the best, and she could somewhat discern the reason.
"Sister Mei, there should be a reason for Brother Hui leaving." Nian Zhen gently rea.s.sured. However, in her mind, she was confused about the white-uniformed teenager's random departure as well.
"M-mhm." Feng Mei choked out an emotional answer, and she felt a wave of melancholy. From childhood, she had never once felt so lost and hopeless. Her kind, doting elder brother would solve her every problem.
"…" w.a.n.g Fang wanted to coax her and to rest his hand on her delicate shoulder, but he held himself back. The two of them weren't that close, after all. In reality, it was his one-sided infatuation.
The dreadful silence was about to continue, but Feng Mei heard a loud banging sound outside her mom's office room. Feeling fearful, the group tried to shuffle into some hidden corners, and she checked to see if the door was locked. Sure enough, it was.
"Bang! Bang!"
The fierce knocking sound continued for a short time. Eventually, it stopped. For a while, the building was noiseless. Hearing the banging stop, the four believed it was safe. Xu Tian signaled with his eyes for the group to have a look outside, but he as the adult remained in his hiding place.
Time flowed like water. None of the four moved. Suddenly, while Xu Tian was plotting his future, the door was loudly kicked down. In front of the broken door stood three tall muscular orcs. These orcs looked around the room. Seemingly, the monsters were trying to sniff out a delicious scent.
"b.u.mp. b.u.mp."
Feng Mei felt her heart viciously pounding. For the first time, she had felt the true dangers of the apocalypse. Earlier, with her elder brother around, she had felt safe and secure. Therefore, everything had not felt real. Now, she was scared and alone.
Looking at her busty best friend fearfully hide beneath a couch, Feng Mei wanted to cry for her elder brother, but she held herself back. Thinking back to her childhood, she remembered her elder brother's advice, "At all times, remain calm. First, a.n.a.lyze the situation. If it's appropriate, plan your next move."
Examining the orc who effortlessly towered over her, Feng Mei crossed 'fighting' off her list. It would be utter suicide. Trying to control her breathing, she heard the sound of the inhuman footsteps coming closer. Closing her eyes, she remained hidden inside a clothing closet.
Peeking through the thin closet gap, Feng Mei saw the murderous faces of the three tall orcs. Frightfully, she watched the three orcs move closer and closer toward her hiding best friend.
"Please no…" Nian Zhen tried to lower her presence, and she whispered in fear. Praying, she hoped that the three orcs would move past her. Fortunately, the sound of the footsteps became lower and lower. Eventually, the orcs had made their way to the back edge of the room.
"s.h.i.t." Xu Tian watched the three orcs coming closer to his hiding spot. Looking around, he spotted the three teenagers. Gritting his smoke-stained teeth, he picked up a white book, and he slid it in the direction of the hiding busty teenage girl.
"Eek!" Nian Zhen watched the three orcs' murderous eyes turn to stare directly at her position. In rage and fear, she stared hatefully at the shameless, obese Xu Tian. Eventually, the orcs were just a step away.
Feng Mei felt her heart drop. As her best friend, she could not allow this. Coming out of the closet, the beautiful black-haired girl screamed, "Over here!"
w.a.n.g Fang's chubby eyes widened. As a man who prioritized his safety first, he had wanted to continue hiding. But after seeing his G.o.ddess's unyielding stance, he clenched his fists, and he also came out from his hiding spot. With irritation, he shouted, "Look here, f*ckers!"
"Wow, w.a.n.g Fang. You're not as spineless as I had imagined." Nian Zhen commended the round-faced senior, and she came out from beneath the couch.
Hearing the praise, the round-faced w.a.n.g Fang blushed a bit, but he kept screaming, "Here!"
Seemingly, the sudden appearance of three figures had confused the orcs.
However, the eyes of the three orcs remained on the black-haired beauty. In their minds, a voice told them that she would be the most tender, the most delicious, and the most appetizing.
Licking their fangs, the orcs eagerly rushed toward the black-haired beauty. Seeing this, w.a.n.g Fang screamed, "No!"
"Sister Mei!" Nian Zhen also cried out, and she had tears in her eyes. Attempting to divert the orcs' attention to herself, she banged and screamed, but the orcs did not halt their movement.
Feng Mei sighed, and she serenely watched the three orcs rush toward her. In her thought, she muttered, "This is the end, Big Brother. Don't be too sad. I'll be with Mom, after all."
Thinking back to her childhood, Feng Mei smiled and shook her head. For a long time, she had not needed her elder brother's protection. Truthfully, she had merely wanted to remain as his innocent little sister forever.
In fact, since childhood, Feng Mei was an independent soul. With their unbelievable intelligence, the brother and sister duo had both inherited the excellent side of the gene pool. For some reason however, she would at all times act like a helpless child around him, while he would be too emotional.
In school, Feng Mei was an excellent charismatic leader figure. However, in front of her elder brother, she'd be that spoilt little girl forever. Nearing death, she tearfully giggled, "Bro, I love you so much. I hope that I'm also your little sister in the next life. Mèimei hopes that… you'll spoil me again"
Facing death, Feng Mei only regretted one thing, "I'll never be able to see Bro and Mom again…"
"Goodbye…" Feng Mei watched the towering orc bear its frightening fangs down on her pet.i.te body, and she prepared for the worst; however, the pain she had expected never came. Instead, upon contact, she puzzledly watched the muscular orc roar in pain.
"It doesn't hurt?" Feng Mei thought with shock. Taking the hit, she did not feel anything.
Growling, the muscular orcs stared furiously at their delectable meal standing just a meter away, but none of them dared to move even an inch closer. Feng Mei's group watched on in bewilderment. All of them had expected the gruesome scene of blood and gore, but a miracle occurred.
"What's happening?" Feng Mei stared at her white hands in confusion. Feeling the changes, she witnessed the scratches made by the orc on her shoulders fade into nothingness.
Eventually, a male orc charged at her. Feng Mei flinched, but she stood her ground. Unable to react, the orc pierced through her chest, and the attack was located at the heart area: the site of the vital Qi.
