Despite the fast speed that the blue sports car was going, because of the buffer zones before the railings, the impact was actually not too severe.
Under normal conditions, a driver would have had the seat belt fastened along with the additional protection of the airbag and would not have been seriously injured.
But tragically, Wu Xuan wasn't wearing his seat belt and he had slammed on the brakes. When the car abruptly stopped, he was carried forward by inertia and hit the steering wheel and the windshield. The collision left his head covered in blood. While the airbag did deploy, it didn't do much to absorb the impact and he ended up with serious injuries.
Yu Zhen and Yin Yan properly parked their car and walked over to find Han Ya standing frozen in fear, two steps away from the crashed car. She didn't dare to get closer and appeared to be frightened by Wu Xuan's condition.
"Call for the police and an ambulance. Wu Xuan's ribs are broken and he can't move," Yin Yan whispered to Yu Zhen. He walked past Han Ya to try to open the car's door. While he seemingly checked over Wu Xuan's condition, he took the opportunity to feed him a pill.
The pill took effect very quickly and immediately eased the wound on Wu Xuan's head. He woke from his unconscious state and his eyes opened slightly.
"Don't move. Don't speak either. Try your best to stay conscious. A doctor will be here soon," Yin Yan informed him. Then he moved out of the car and said to Yu Zhen, "Uncle Weng should have placed an emergency first-aid kit in the trunk. Wu Xuan's wounds need to be bandaged."
Yu Zhen, who had just made the phone call, quickly ran towards their car, found the kit, and promptly returned.
When he returned with the first-aid kit, Yin Yan finally said, “I don't know how to bandage wounds.”
Yu Zhen had no words to reply to that. He took Yin Yan's place and got into the car to begin bandaging up Wu Xuan.
Outside the car, Han Ya finally regained her senses. However, the first thing she did wasn't to check on Wu Xuan. Instead, she went over to Yin Yan's side wearing a scared expression. Weakly, she tried to lean on him and asked in a trembling voice, "Yan… How is Xuan? I-I'm afraid… I knew it, that whenever I would run into problems, you would appear to help me."
Yin Yan calmly stepped aside to keep a distance from her. Politely, he said, "Miss Han, please conduct yourself with dignity. Men and women shouldn't be too casual with each other. And, I'm married. Please don't address me in that way."
Han Ya leaned on air and stumbled comically. Biting her lips, she tearfully looked at Yin Yan. The word 'married' felt like a knife that stabbed at her heart.
She turned to look at Yu Zhen, the one who had s.n.a.t.c.hed away Yin Yan, but ended up meeting the open eyes of a bloodied Wu Xuan. Shocked, she reflexively took a step back.
"Wu Xuan was unconscious for a short while because of the sudden trauma. When I approached him, he had already woken up. He could hear everything you said," Yin Yan 'considerately' told her. Seeing a police car approach, he stopped speaking with her and walked over to them instead.
“Ah.”
In the car, Wu Xuan looked away with a sneer. Looking at Yu Zhen who was nervously bandaging his wounds, he said, "An outsider like you knows how to worry for me but my own girlfriend… ha ha… I'm injured to this extent but what she thinks about first is catching another man — Sss…" Wu Xuan hissed with abrupt pain.
"Stop talking." Yu Zhen's eyebrows scrunched up tightly. Recalling a certain soul he met last night, one who had died as a result of driving under the influence, he reprimanded, "Why would you drive so fast? What if something really did happen to you? Think about your family. How sad would they be? What if you had hit someone? How much despair would that person's family feel? There's no medicine in this world for regret."
He rarely criticized others in such a way so Yu Zhen felt his tone of voice was very severe. However, Wu Xuan took those words as well-meant advice with a hint of disappointment.
"Interesting," Wu Xuan commented, disobeying Yu Zhen's words. His gaze moved to Han Ya, who suddenly looked as if she cared a great deal about Wu Xuan. She had repositioned herself in front of his car and was frantically weeping a river of tears. Mockingly, he chuckled, "Everyone said that my way of driving was no good. But one person worshipped my driving style… My brother was right. My rebellious period has really been too long."
Worship? What's there to worship with this kind of death-seeking driving style?
Yu Zhen gave up trying to reason with the willful rich young master. After he had wrapped up Wu Xuan's wounds, he left the car and waited for the ambulance to arrive.
With the help of the pill and the timely staunching of his wounds, Wu Xuan was conscious and clear-headed when the doctor arrived. He was in quite a good mental state.
Han Ya wanted to follow along in the ambulance as a family member, but Wu Xuan insisted on going alone. Before leaving, he asked Han Ya to call his family.
After the ambulance left, Yin Yan and Yu Zhen stayed behind to explain the situation to the traffic police. They were informed that the recording from their dashcam may be needed later.
As Han Ya had arrived with Wu Xuan, she was also asked to stay behind for the investigation. However, her state of mind was very unstable and her agitated behavior was unsuitable for working with the police investigation. Several times, she tried to approach Yin Yan.
Yu Zhen frowned. He recalled the sight of Wu Xuan who was taken away while covered in blood, and the original Yin Yan who had also been covered in blood as the warmth seeped out of his body. Unwilling to let Yin Yan be touched by such a bothersome person again, he pulled him further away.
Before long, one of Wu Xuan's brothers, Wu Ping, had rushed to the scene and worked with the police to deal with matters regarding the car crash. Throughout the whole affair, he did not even acknowledge Han Ya. He treated her as if she were air, making his objection towards her very clear.
After the situation at the scene of the accident was completely recorded, the blue sports car was towed away. Han Ya's car was new so it only had a temporary license plate. She was suspected of drunk driving and chasing after the other car, causing the accident. As a result, both she and the car would need to be taken away.
Yu Zhen didn't expect that Han Ya was driving while drunk. He became even more speechless at rich people and their driving habits. Once they had completed their cooperation with the police, he signaled to Yin Yan that they should leave.
Wu Ping thanked them before they left. With a sincere and serious att.i.tude, he said, "Xiao Xuan talked about this on the phone. I really have to thank you both. Thank you."
“You're welcome.”
Yin Yan held Wu Ping's hand and spoke a few more words of support before taking his leave. While leaving with Yu Zhen, he also treated Han Ya as air.
After the incident, the two continued with their original plan and headed to the construction site, but with Yin Yan behind the wheel.
"Ai…" Yu Zhen sighed.
"What's the matter?"
"I just can't figure it out. Han Ya could easily spend her days nicely, so why is she still discontent and messing around? It would be fine if she chose you. It would also be fine if she chose Wu Xuan. Apart from the bad habit of not following traffic rules, both of you have very good capabilities, financial resources, and family backing. And you both have outstanding backgrounds and liked her. What could she be dissatisfied with that she'd need to -"
“Not me.”
“What?”
“It's not me who liked Han Ya. I don't have such bad vision.” Yin Yan stopped the car by the construction site's project signboard. Switching off the engine and unbuckling his seat belt, Yin Yan said, "We've arrived."
Yu Zhen looked at him, somehow getting the feeling that he was angry.
Yin Yan got out of the car and strode towards the construction site with large strides.
He really is angry. But why?
Yu Zhen pondered about the issue. Then, miraculously, he understood why Yin Yan was angry.
He got out of the car and hurried to Yin Yan's side. "Of course, neither of them are as outstanding as you. You're the most awesome."
Yin Yan stopped in his tracks and turned to look at Yu Zhen.
Yu Zhen nonchalantly looked back.
“Boot-licker.”
“…” Yu Zhen felt that, at times like this, it should be okay for the younger generation not to be as respectful to the elder.
"For you." Yin Yan retrieved a jade bottle and gave it to Yu Zhen, then continued walking onwards. "Although spiritual energy isn't necessary for you, supplementing it occasionally can promote your cultivation."
The jade bottle was warm to the touch and unexpectedly heavy. When he removed the cork stopper, a nice, refreshing, plant-like fragrance wafted up to Yu Zhen, and the comfortable feeling of the spiritual energy surrounded him.
Looking inside, he saw dark green pills that were small, round and glossy. They were surrounded by the white haze of dense spiritual energy which circulated slowly.
Even with one glance, it's clear that this is good stuff.
Yu Zhen replaced the cork into the jade bottle and looked at Yin Yan's back.
So this means…the boot-licking was a success?
All workers at the construction site were paid in advance by the Yin family's company. The person in charge of the engineering team handled organizing the transportation arrangements, including purchasing tickets to send the workers back to their home for the new year period.
Originally, a few people should have been left to watch over the construction site but, worried that more accidents would occur, Yin Hexiang had also sent the guards away. In their place, more surveillance cameras were installed to monitor the site remotely.
Because the accident occurred soon after the start of construction, the structure had not been built very high yet. The scaffolding was also still quite short. It's possible to have a bird's eye view of the entire construction site if we go to stand on one of those mounds of sand.
After checking the three accident sites, Yin Yan suddenly said, "Halting construction was the correct decision."
Yu Zhen looked at him with a gaze that expressed his hunger for knowledge.
"At present, the highest part of the scaffold is about three or four meters tall. Below it, the sand acts as a buffer. So even if a worker falls, they wouldn't be too seriously injured. But if they continued to build, the scaffolding would become even taller. If the workers fall then, those injuries would no longer be considered minor."
Yu Zhen looked at the building's steel frames which were quite close by. After estimating the height of the frame, he nodded in understanding. Then he continued to look at Yin Yan, upping the intensity of his knowledge-hungry gaze.
So what's the reason? What's the reason for those accidents?
