H-Husband?

Yu Zhen almost choked on his own saliva. His face heated up with embarra.s.sment, so much that smoke could almost be seen rising from the top of his head. Not daring to stay with the two older ladies any longer, he answered vaguely and scurried off to the kitchen where the sound of activity could be heard. 

Yin Yan was leaving the kitchen with two cups of tea in hand just as Yu Zhen arrived at the doorway. Both parties blocked the other's path.

"You…You aren't happy?" Yu Zhen asked. He stepped back a little and attentively watched Yin Yan's expression.

Yin Yan didn't reply. Instead, his eyelids became half closed and he lowered his head. 

[Kiss me.]

“What?” Yu Zhen stared blankly.

[Mom is peeping.]

“…”

The two faced each other, gazes locked. Yin Yan's expression was calm and honest. It looked like he was making the request to appease the elder and let her be happy.

After entering the Way, Yu Zhen's mind became a little sharper and he was able to respond quickly. Taking a step back, he leaned in closer and raised his face towards Yin Yan's. However, he stopped a hair's breadth before their lips made contact. After a strategic two-second pause, he withdrew and took the tray from Yin Yan's hands. 

"Alright," he said. Then he lowered his voice to proudly whisper, "That just there is called a 'staged kiss'. From the living room, that angle should be just right. Mom will definitely be happy."

Bdump. Bdump…Clink. 

Yin Yan's hands were emptied. By the time the warm air he breathed onto Yu Zhen had cooled, his heart had completed a lap on a roller coaster ride. He stood watching as Yu Zhen carried the tray away. He also spied Qiu Feiqian's satisfied expression before she turned away. Lips tightening, he gave off a strong 'immortal's aura'.

"Evil disciple."

He took out a pill and ate it. Feeling wronged, he sulked in a corner by himself.

That night, the two slept in the same bed again. For no particular reason,Yu Zhen went to bed early. Yin Yan joined him as he had no excuse to go to bed late.

After washing up, both Yin Yan and Yu Zhen each stood on one side of the bed, looking at each other. Yin Yan made the first move. He turned to switch off the light and said, "Sleep."

With the room darkened, Yu Zhen couldn't see Yin Yan's face anymore, and so the mysterious nervousness in his heart disappeared. Making a soft sound of acknowledgment, he lifted the blanket and slid underneath it. He squirmed and shifted around on the bed until he was as close to the edge as possible. Then, he closed his eyes. 

The bed sank down again when Yin Yan got under the covers.

The room was completely silent, allowing them to hear each other's breathing. One minute. Five minutes. Ten Minutes… Half an hour. One hour. One and a half hours… After three hours, Yu Zhen could no longer bear it and turned over.

“Can't sleep?”

Shocked, Yu Zhen immediately sat up. He had almost fallen off the bed.

Yin Yan also sat up. He switched on the bedside lamp. Turning to look at Yu Zhen, he said, "If you can't sleep, cultivate."

After a few seconds of silence, Yu Zhen calmed down. Looking at Yin Yan's similarly bright and awake eyes, he nodded. "Okay, let's go cultivate."

The moon hung suspended high up in the sky, illuminating the two men who appeared in the dark alley with one man walking in front of the other. 

"Those who have just entered the Way need large amounts of spiritual energy as there is a lack of spiritual energy in the dantian. This world doesn't have much spiritual energy and relying on pills is far from adequate. So, going forward, you must strive to acc.u.mulate a lot of merits."

Yin Yan explained as he led them deeper into the alley. He paused in the middle of the path and indicated to Yu Zhen that he should go ahead alone. "There is the soul of a murderer just ahead. Send him off."

Yu Zhen paused in his steps when he heard the word 'murderer'. Yin Yan thought he would say something or look scared, but neither case happened. Yu Zhen quickly controlled his expression before stepping around Yin Yan and continuing forwards.

The alley was only gently lit by moonlight. Yin Yan watched as Yu Zhen walked past him with a calm but resolute facade. He was dazed by the image as he recalled the scene of his first meeting with this person whose eyes burned with a strong hope.

"Yu Zhen."

He couldn't help but call out to the person who was about to leave his side. 

Yu Zhen, who had held his breath and forced himself to walk on without being afraid, immediately paused at his name being called. He turned to look back at Yin Yan and asked, "What's the matter?"

It's still a clear and simple gaze. There isn't that burning look in his eyes. 

Yin Yan's clenched fist loosened. "If you get scared, you can come back to me."

Yu Zhen was caught off guard. The faint thread of fear in his heart disappeared and he smiled as he said, "I'm not scared. I know you'll be watching me." 

The moonlight suddenly faded and the expression on Yin Yan's face was hidden by darkness.

Likely aware of the danger, the soul which roamed in the alley suddenly started moving. While there was no moonlight, it pounced at Yu Zhen, the person closest to it. 

Yu Zhen snapped back to reality. He released golden light from his body, and all the filth and darkness were instantly dispelled from the alley.

B City was very large. Every day, there were many lives born and many lives that pa.s.sed away.

Yin Yan and Yu Zhen traveled to all corners of the city, easily acc.u.mulating merits during their journey as if it was just a walk in the park. Yin Yan was able to precisely pinpoint locations where souls were drifting about and he could also clearly tell the life story of those souls.

Just as dawn was about to break, Yin Yan brought Yu Zhen to the entrance of another high-end villa area. 

"Where's the ghost?" As soon as Yu Zhen arrived, he began to look out for the ghost. His expression no longer held any trace of fear for ghosts.

"There are no ghosts here." Yin Yan stuck his hands into his coat pockets. Gesturing toward the opposite roadside, he said, "Only a former cat demon."

Cat demon?

Yu Zhen turned to have a look. In a flower bed across the road lay a black kitten which looked like it had been born not too long ago. Its body was thin and weak, but its eyes were bright and spirited. It diligently watched the exit of the villa area. 

"That's Du Du?" Yu Zhen was shocked, then pleasantly surprised. "He has reincarnated?" 

Yin Yan nodded. "But he no longer has any memories related to us. And he has no way of cultivating. He only remembers Bu Lian."

Yu Zhen's excitement faded away. After looking at the black kitten's feeble appearance, he called Xu Wu out. He asked for a packet of the goat's milk which was usually kept for Xu Wu. Then he tore open the packet and indicated to Xu Wu that it should bring the milk to the little black kitten.

“Why not go in person?” Yin Yan asked.

"Du Du doesn't recognize us right now. If we suddenly appeared, it would be scared," Yu Zhen explained. As Yu Zhen watched the black kitten accept Xu Wu after a moment of vigilance, a smile broke out on his face.

The fingers in Yin Yan's pockets twitched as he watched the smile on Yu Zhen's face. He stepped back a little.

Half an hour later, Bu Lian appeared on her bike. She was headed for the early session of cram school. Close behind her was another bike-riding youth. 

Once they left the villa's compound, the youngster immediately pestered Bu Lian and forced her to stop. Bu Lian was annoyed but didn't let it get the better of her. After watching the scene play out, the fur on the kitten's back stood up on end and it rushed out in an act of the 'hero rescuing the damsel'.

The youngster's mood was ruined by the kitten, so he prepared to kick it aside. At that point, Bu Lian finally exploded. At the end of her patience, she pushed aside the youth and shouted loudly at him. Then she picked up the kitten into the cradle of her arms. Carefully, she wrapped the kitten in her scarf and placed it in her bike's basket. With a worried look on her face, she returned to the villa area and headed for the pet shop.

"What bad luck! Cats! Cats! Cats! All you care about is cats!"

The youth viciously kicked over the black kitten's half-finished packet of milk. He threw down his bag and pushed over his bike. Soon afterward, he left after phoning his residence for a car.

Yu Zhen frowned with worry for Bu Lian.

"Don't worry, Bu Chen will deal with it." Yin Yan checked the time and said, "Let's go. It's time to go home."

Although Yin Yan and Yu Zhen were busy all night, they looked full of energy because they had absorbed a lot of merits.

Yin Hexiang stared at Yin Yan for a few seconds. He was very satisfied with Yin Yan's state of mind. After breakfast, he called him over. He retrieved a doc.u.ment from his briefcase and handed it to Yin Yan. "This is the information for the themed leisure center in West City. While you're not working, take this chance to have a proper look at it. Don't let the ball drop when you start work after the Chinese New Year celebrations."

Yin Yan took the doc.u.ment and said, "I will."

When Yin Hexiang and Qiu Feiqian left, he showed his true colors and threw the doc.u.ment into his mustard s.p.a.ce. Looking at Yu Zhen, he said, "Get ready to go out."

Yu Zhen, who was using the tablet to research high-end flowers, looked up at Yin Yan. Doubtfully, he asked, "Go where? Don't you have to read the doc.u.ment?" We were out and about all night long. Don't you feel tired?

"To the construction site," Yin Yan replied. He retrieved Yu Zhen's scarf and coat, indicating that he should come over. "We still haven't found out why the workers met with accidents so frequently."

Yu Zhen took a look at the pictures he had found on the tablet. He quickly saved them before obediently going over to put on the items of clothing in Yin Yan's grasp. 

The construction site was located at West City, which was a little far from the villa area — about an hour's drive away. Although he was an experienced driver, Yin Yan shamelessly handed over the keys to Yu Zhen using the same n.o.ble excuse of 'letting him practice'.

Yu Zhen silently took the keys. After a look at Yin Yan's calm and self-confident face, he turned and got in the car. 

Cautious, novice drivers tended to have a habit: following the traffic laws too strictly. If they could wait for ten seconds, they would. Moreover, they would be extremely focused and not speak to their pa.s.sengers. When they approached more complex road areas, they would reflexively step on their brakes – even if no pedestrians were present. They would also step on the brakes to slow down the car by just a few ticks on the odometer.

At a certain intersection close to the construction site, there were miraculously no traffic lights or traffic police, but Yu Zhen perfectly displayed those habits. After checking that there were no oncoming cars from either side and no pedestrians, Yu Zhen still stepped on the brakes to slow the car down. 

Just then, a sapphire blue car appeared, suddenly cutting diagonally across the intersection, narrowly missing the front of his car before crashing into the railings and shuddering to a stop. 

Yu Zhen was shocked into immediately slamming on the brakes. Then, with another rush, a red sports car followed behind and made an emergency stop beside the blue sports car. The driver's door opened and a familiar woman appeared.  

"Wu Xuan!" Han Ya shrieked as she ran over. 

"Oh G.o.d," Yu Zhen's mind was filled with the four words 'enemies will inevitably clash'. 

Yin Yan nodded with satisfaction. "In the original fate, the Wu family would have gained the Yin family's enmity because of Han Ya. To break the fate, we must form good karma with the Wu family. Let's get out of the car and send Wu Xuan to the hospital."

Yu Zhen had a thunderous expression on his face. Turning to look at Yin Yan, he spat out, "So you've known since earlier on that Wu Xuan's blood disaster would happen here?" And you still let him drive?
