Since the moment my brother told me, I knew that though I was a skeptic.
I Li Xiaoyu will make sure to protect my brother! That was something I swore to myself the moment our parents died. My brother isn't exactly the most normal older brother that all people have, although he is a good one. My brother is a bit off in the head is what some would call him, meaning he's a bit of an idiot at times and a bit of a genius when it comes to certain things. Which is why he gets bullied often.
When my brother should have arrived at the airport I called him to make sure he got there fine and that's when I was informed of the Apocalypse.

I saw the new channel broadcasting news of the Apocalypse all over and saw with my very eyes a broadcaster who got bitten to death by the zombies.
When my brother called me at first I didn't believe a single thing out of his G.o.dd.a.m.ned mouth. I was a little more than skeptical about his claims for my brother's history of claiming there is an apocalypse, isn't a clean one.
He's been one to think about all sorts of things up in his mind that I just can't help but be skeptical about his claims of there being an apocalypse out there. My big brother is a grown man who is also a Chunibyo at heart and likes singing nursery rhymes... How do you expect me to trust him?
So I wasn't worried one bit when he hung up the phone. I mean he did this sort of prank on me before this telling me that the adults on earth have turned into Giant man-eating chickens to scare me. It was only after reading a Manga about Adults turning into chickens did I know where his inspired prank came from.
It was naturally a Manga where all his crazy ideas came to life in his mind.
I had told my brother before that rather than becoming an HVAC technician he should've simply become a manga artist but he wouldn't listen.
When our parents died life was tough. My brother dropped out of college to lessen the expenses for the family and started to work after getting his certificate in HVAC.
He got an offer to work with a friend of his in Chicago so he took the offer and decided to work there. I, on the other hand, am already 16. I wanted more independence and decided to stay in new york. We were living in a small apartment in NYC which cost about 900 dollars a month so I decided to stay to and finish my education here without having to move to a new school in Chicago.
My brother comes back once every 2 weeks to check on me. While I simply lie to the rest of the world that I live at home alone. For there should generally be a parent or guardian in the house. But usually, the school doesn't check or even know so it was fine.
Life was simple and easy.
Wake up, Study while eating, Go to school, Finish homework, Study, Watch infographics for 2 hours and then sleep.
It was then a repet.i.tion of these steps. I am a straight-A student so to not drop my grades, these are the naturally the steps I need to take to maintain those grades. To stay in New York alone, I had to promise my brother that I'll be a Straight-A student so this is how it is.
But then the world went to h.e.l.l and I was stuck in an apartment on the 3rd floor in a Zombie infested Chinatown.
I couldn't call my brother back after and know that the phone was shut off. His battery most likely died. That was what I was praying to myself in my heart. My brother is the closest person to me now. Although he isn't the most reliable brother he is the best.
I made sure to do what he said and started blockading off the door to our apartment.
I pulled out my bed's mattress first and stuffed it in between the door and the kitchen stove. Our apartment is fairly small so the kitchen stove is just beside the door. There isn't a whole kitchen in this apartment for this is a fairly small apartment.
I then started packing up the things I needed. I picked up a couple of wheat crackers which I bought as night snacks and stuffed them into my Pikachu backpack after dumping out all my notebooks and folders.
I filled my backpack to the brim with all the crackers I had in the house. I know that food will be a hard thing to get in an apocalypse after watching a Zombie Apocalypse infographic and decided to carry as much food as I could. In the backpack, I stuffed ramen noodles (Nonperishable), crackers (Nonperishable), Chocolate bars (High Calories), Rice (Long shelf time).
The rest of the food in the refrigerator was most likely not going to last long so I left it behind.
I looked through the peephole of the door to look at the surrounding outside my apartment and find it clear of any Zombies.
But there will be Zombies in this building. It's just a question of time when the Zombies get out of there front doors.
I need an escape route that the Zombies won't come from and figured that the fire escape is my best bet.
There is a window on one side of the building that I can climb out. I usually hang my clothes there to dry after washing them. So I know that is a route of escape if I need to.
I left my backpack near the window so If I ever need to escape in an emergency I could grab it easily.
I called my brother again after doing all that but he still wouldn't pick up. I began watching the news for any information on the World outside. I called my brother once every 3 minutes to find out if he made it out of the Airport alive but was starting to get a bit worried. After watching the News I know that these Zombies are extremely strong so I became worried about every pa.s.sing minute.
