The escapees stared at the young man and looked at him fearfully. Even though he was young, the small stones he had flicked had killed a few of their men, if they were to provoke him, they knew that this day next year would be the first anniversary of their deaths.
"Esteemed sir, you may have already heard, but I am Duan Huan. We would like to negotiate with you." the leader of the group spoke.
"Go on." the young man replied.
"Since esteemed sir is here, I can promise that if you let us go, we won't harm anymore soldiers, in fact, we don't even need a s.p.a.ceship to escape as long as we have our lives." Duan Huan continued.
"But if I kill you all here right now, I can save the soldiers at the same time. The only thing stopping me right now, is to see what nonsense you have to say." the young man snorted.
"Yes, yes. You are correct, however, we have an important piece of information you may be interested in."
"Go on."
"I have a list and marked locations of every escapee, there are a few more groups of prisoners. If you let us go, I can exchange the information with you, since esteemed sir is here for the Federal University exam, I think this information may be useful to you." Duan Huan ended.
"I see. Then I agree." the young man nodded. Even though he could've gotten the information by killing them, he had to make sure it was on their bodies and not through other means.
Behind him, the soldiers didn't seem to agree with his words. However, as they had heard the exchange, they didn't speak since the deal was in their favour.
"Thank you, here is the information." Duan Huan replied. He then tapped a certain area on his iron handcuffs, in which something fell out from a small component. Duan Huan then slowly walked forward and pa.s.sed the little scroll to the young man, as he got back and started walking away with his men.
The young man received the scroll and enabled the escapees to get away. Once they were hundreds of meters away, a little black dog moved in the blink of an eye, in the direction of the prisoners.
"I kept my promise, I let you go, but the little dog won't." the young man muttered as he kept the little scroll. He then faced the soldiers who had been freed from the hands of the prisoners.
"Young man, you are quite capable." the injured leader of the soldiers thanked the young man.
"Thank you for saving us, I am second lieutenant of arms, David Jackson, while you have saved us, I hope you can provide the information you have received to the military." the lieutenant continued.
The lieutenant had spoken to him in Mandarin, ever since the federation was created, it was a requirement for all citizens to be able to speak, read, write, and understand not only the Universal language, but also Mandarin and English.
Since he was spoken to in Mandarin, the young man replied in the same language; No problems, but you must first heal your injuries. As for the escapees, I will handle them. Also, my name is Yang Jian." the young man replied.
"Indeed, even if we have the information, it's useless with our injuries, our communication devices were also destroyed by them before we got here, hence we couldn't call for reinforcements. Even if we did, they wouldn't be able to come since they are probably dealing with a similar situation." David nodded in agreement.
Yang Jian then had a look at the injuries of all the injured soldiers. Many of them suffered broken bones, or bled from wounds caused by beasts. While they weren't looking, he took out some medical supplies he had prepared just in case.
After handing the supplies over, he also added some dried rations before heading off.
************
A little bit later, Yang Jian met up with the little black dog. He took all of the bodies of the prisoners out from his storage s.p.a.ce while the soldiers were occupied, and kept them in a pile.
When he arrived, only clothes and iron chains were left behind. Not even bones remained when the little black dog had finished with them.
Once the little black dog had devoured all of the prisoners, Yang Jian sat down and opened the scroll containing all the marked locations of the remaining prisoners. The small scroll contained a map of the planet he was on. It didn't contain the name, but was quite detailed, showing a scaling and also provided a legend.
Yang Jian used his finger to draw a bigger version on the ground, in which the little black dog came over to look at. "Little guy, I'll take these three spots, since you're faster, the rest will be for you." he told it.
The little black dog didn't nod or seem to reply. It looked at the map Yang Jian had drawn, before dashing off. As for Yang Jian, he erased the map on the ground before heading towards the three places he had marked.
*********
Two hours later, Yang Jian arrived at the first location. There, he noticed a different group of prisoners who seemed to be weaker than the first group he had met. Not only that, the prisoners had surrounded a group of kids who were the same age as Yang Jian.
He immediately recognised the kids, since he had seen everyone who had partic.i.p.ated in the exam before it had begun. The group of them were amongst the weakest of the partic.i.p.ants who had chosen to take the exam.
From where he was, he could see a fierce fight taking place between both groups. Even though the students only numbered five, they were fighting pretty much evenly against the group of twenty or so prisoners.
Yang Jian didn't want to expose himself. Picking up some stones, his fingers moved at the speed of light. Small stones suddenly flew out like a machine gun towards the prisoners, who died upon making impact with the stones. They were hit by a sneak attack, right in their chest, leaving no way for survival.
After a few moments, Yang Jian had cleaned up the prisoner. As for the five students who had no idea what had just occurred, Yang Jian's body disappeared from his previous location, and appeared right behind the students.
The sound of thunder resounded in an instant, as the last sound they had heard before fainting entered their ears. Yang Jian had arrived behind them, and knocked them out. With them there, it was impossible for him to collect the bodies of the prisoners.
After moving the students away, in a somewhat safe location and collecting the bodies of the prisoners, Yang Jian sprinted in the direction of the next group of escaped inmates.
A couple hours later, he dropped all the bodies he had collected in one neat pile. He had returned to the place in which he had received the map. When he arrived, the little black dog was already there waiting for him.
After it devoured the prisoners, it started to sleep. Since it was roughly evening, Yang Jian sat down crossed-legged and started cultivating as well. These days, he had gained quite a bit of gene points, he decided against using them for now, until he needed it.
Of course, since he split his cultivation, and focused solely on immortal cultivation, he hadn't gained any gene points in over a week. Fortunately for him, he had broken through to levels and is halfway through the Body tempering realm.
Once he reached the next stage, being Qi Condensation, the time he needed as well as resources would increase exponentially. Since he had already reached a gene score of 1.0, he thought it was best to reach the Qi Condensation stage, before increasing his gene score.
Since he was cultivating two pathways at once, it was obvious that his stage would be lower than others, since it would take a much longer time. Of course, the advantage was that he was many times more powerful than those of the same stage as him, and could easily fight across stages based solely on his cultivation.
With his legs crossed, Yang Jian's body took in the qi from the surrounding environment and devoured it inside his body. On this planet, the qi was a few notches above Earth's qi, making his cultivation speed double, while the devoured qi was denser and richer.
According to his calculations, he would take roughly one and a half months at best to make a breakthrough if he could stay on this planet, but since he was in the middle of an exam, he knew he couldn't stay for long.
As his body devoured the planet's qi, the s.p.a.ce surrounding his body was terrifying. Without him noticing, his body slowly started to levitate in the air, while stones were rotating around his body. A horrible tornado of pure energy was created around him, while nearby plants were blown away and boulders shattered like gla.s.s.
The little black dog awakened as it peered at Yang Jian's body. Getting up, it no longer had a rest and turned into a shadow, disappearing from its spot.
***********
The next morning, Yang Jian opened his eyes. Looking around, he noticed destruction everywhere around him, but the spot he was sitting on. "Strange, what happened while I was cultivating?" he thought.
While he was immersed in his cultivative state, everything that happened around him was unknown to him. He then noticed some small boulders surrounding his location, with perfect s.p.a.cing between each one.
"So it protected me?" he muttered, as he thought of the little black dog. Standing up, Yang Jian's muscles cracked like the sound of thunder. After his bones and muscles cracked, his body felt slightly more comfortable. He then followed the tracks left behind by the little black dog, after grinding the boulders to dust.
