Chapter 117 - Farce (Two)
Yu Tang looked at his grandfather. A few young ladies from wealthy families were standing there, and his heart felt tired. He lowered his head to look at the time, and let go of Song Xiao’s hand. After some thought, he bent his head again to say something in Song Xiao’s ear.
Song Xiao’s eyes widened imperceptibly, and he turned his head slowly to exchange looks with the emperor. After silently looking at each other for three seconds, he gave Yu Tang an ‘understood’ expression.
To outsiders, they looked like they were reluctant to part as they whispered sweet nothings to each other, even trading tender gazes.
Yu Taixian was furious, and gave the bodyguard chief upstairs a look.
The great general immediately nodded upon receiving the family head’s order. He raised one hand, and two bodyguards appeared from behind the pillars to slowly approach Song Xiao.
This was all done without drawing the attention of the guests. Yu Tang walked over. “Grandpa, do you need something?”
Hampered by the presence of so many guests, it wasn’t good for Yu Taixian to blow his top in front of them. He patted Yu Tang’s shoulder. “This is Uncle Cheng. The two of you are probably very familiar. Do you still remember Xinran?”
The Cheng family was also a major aristocratic family in China. Cheng Xinran wasn’t the daughter of the family head, but if they could be connected to the Cheng family through marriage, it would be very beneficial for the Yu family’s development in the Chinese market. Moreover, after Yu Taixian searched for a long time, she turned out to be the only girl whom Yu Tang had had some interaction with before.
Cheng Xinran hurriedly walked over and gave Yu Tang a reserved smile.
“Xinran jie,” Yu Tang greeted very politely, promptly causing everyone present to choke.
At that moment, the band changed to a jaunty tune as the lights flickered and flashed. Everyone was promptly fired up as they slowly started to let loose on the dance floor.
The two bodyguards standing behind Song Xiao suddenly reached out to grab hold of Song Xiao’s arms.
“What are you doing?” Song Xiao frowned.
The two large bodyguards had cold expressions, and looked extremely unreasonable. “Our chief wants to invite you to have a cup of tea.”
Standing in the shadows, Dugu An dropped one hand, and a jet-black dagger slid out from his sleeve and instantly appeared in his palm.
“Are you two idiots? Who told you to touch him?!” The bodyguard chief’s aggrieved bellow rang out in their earpieces.
When the great general standing on the second floor saw what his two subordinates did, he was so frightened that his soul nearly flew out of his body. He would be dead if the emperor saw this!
When a person was unlucky, what they were afraid of would happen. Right at that moment, Yu Taixian jerked his chin cryptically in that direction. Yu Tang turned around and just happened to see this scene. His eyes immediately turned red and he stepped forward to walk over to Song Xiao.
“Tangtang, if you dare go over, you don’t have to call me grandpa in the future,” Yu Taixian quietly warned him.
Yu Tang saw the two bodyguards let go of Song Xiao as if they had been burnt, before bringing him outside. Yu Tang narrowed his eyes slightly and laughed grimly. “This is what grandfather wanted to show me?”
Yu Taixian slowly sat down, appearing as calm as a mountain.
Yu Tang clenched his fists and turned to speak to Cheng Xinran. “Xinran jie, let’s talk.”
Seeing this, the elders promptly agreed and allowed them to walk to one side.
Cheng Xinran took a gla.s.s of wine from a tray which a pa.s.sing waiter was holding and followed Yu Tang to the balcony outside at a graceful pace.
“Unresigned?” Cheng Xinran slowly sipped her wine and turned to look at the moon outside. “The Yu family isn’t yours yet and your words don’t matter; you can’t protect your beloved at all.”
Yu Tang put one hand in his pants pocket while he took out a small box with the other.
“You smoke?” Cheng Xinran raised an eyebrow.
Yu Tang took out a long and slender object from the box and held it to his lips. He looked reserved and elegant.
The night was dark outside and his expression wasn’t visible, but someone under the moon always had a particular aura. Cheng Xinran felt her heart skip a beat. “Need a light?”
Yu Tang held the object to his lips with two fingers and took a bite with a crunch, chewing expressionlessly. Was this woman a fool? Why did he need a light for a lollipop?
Cheng Xinran: “…”
The ball was still underway, and Song Xiao was ‘invited’ to go out, before the bodyguards brought him to the second floor from outside. The general wiped his face and kicked each bodyguard down the stairs. He looked around before falling to the floor and kowtowing. “This servant is lacking in discipline, and for this crime, should be given a thousand deaths!”
Song Xiao’s lips quirked and he hurriedly pulled the great general up; it would be embarra.s.sing if they were seen.
Cao Gonggong flashed upstairs, speedily set out a table and chair, and invited Song Xiao to take a seat. He poured a cup of warm tea and even arranged two roses on the table in pa.s.sing before he bowed noiselessly and retreated.
The two bodyguards who had their hands on their b.u.t.ts as they stood downstairs exchanged looks. So, it turned out that when the boss said to ‘invite him to have tea’, it meant drinking actual tea ah!
After the third song ended, the ball was more or less over. Some people left early, while those who were closer to the Yu family would stay a little longer, but would also prepare to leave.
“Those two kids aren’t back yet; their conversation must be going well,” Yu Taixian said with a smile.
The Cheng family head smiled but didn’t say anything. As the family head on the bride’s side, he had to be more reserved and couldn’t be too anxious.
Cheng Xinran had already downed three gla.s.ses of wine and talked a lot. Yu Tang didn’t reply at all, and Cheng Xinran, feeling a little stifled, started to become drunk.
Yu Tang looked down from the balcony and narrowed his eyes. He suddenly straightened and turned to walk in.
“The terms I just mentioned, did you hear them?” Cheng Xinran quickly followed him and spoke in a low tone.
When they were about to arrive at their elders, Yu Tang suddenly paused and looked at her, then glanced at Song Xiao sitting on the second floor out of the corner of his eye. After thinking about it, he said, “At this time, shouldn’t you pretend to be drunk and fall over, then I can seize this opportunity to send you home?”
Cheng Xinran was taken aback, and her eyes filled with pleased surprise. When did this kid suddenly become so enlightened? Hurriedly using the excuse of being drunk, she fell limply in Yu Tang’s direction. “I really do feel a little faint ne.”
Yu Tang reached out and, with little effort, instantly sent the falling girl into her uncle’s embrace as he expressionlessly said, “She drank too much. You should quickly go back.”
The Cheng family head looked at his niece, who had fallen into his arms, and felt very embarra.s.sed. “Sorry, we’ll leave first.” Then, holding Cheng Xinran, he left.
“Pfft —” Song Xiao instantly sprayed out the mouthful of tea he had just drank.
After the Cheng family left, it wasn’t proper for the others to stay. They left one after another, and soon, only the Yu family remained in the hall.
“This is your decision?” Clutching his chest, Yu Taixian sat down and thumped the floor with his cane. He picked up a walkie-talkie. “Lu Guozhong, bring him over.”
The great general made a sound of a.s.sent and respectfully invited the empress downstairs.
Song Xiao slowly went down, and the two bodyguards put on a show and followed behind him as they slowly walked over to stand next to Yu Tang.
“I tell you to break up and you break up for just one day?” Yu Taixian finally spoke. The two of them were perfectly fine and had just been putting on an act yesterday. Moreover, they hadn’t been serious about their performance at all! Did it make sense to get back together in just one day?! “Are you not taking me seriously at all?”
“It seems that in Xiao Tang’s heart, it’s still this boyfriend that’s the most important ne.” Yu Lang shrugged.
“You shut your mouth!” Yu laoyezi berated, then turned to glare at Yu Tang. He pointed at Song Xiao with his cane. “This is the pleasant surprise you said you wanted to give me today?”
Yu Tang took a step to the side to shield Song Xiao, then respectfully said, “Of course not. You’ve already met Song Xiao, and this doesn’t count as a pleasant surprise. The gift which this grandson wishes to present just arrived.”
Right as he said the words, the doors to the living room abruptly opened, and two wheelchairs were pushed in by several bodyguards.
Yu Taixian had been about to say something, but was instantly stunned when he lifted his head to look at the two individuals. Yu Lang looked like he had seen a ghost, and he took a step back, nearly falling to the ground.
The men in the wheelchairs were none other than the two who should have ‘died in a plane crash’ – Yu Tang’s dad and seventh uncle!
