Chapter 116 - Farce (One)
Music rang out, and the ball began. The men could each choose a woman as their dance partner.
Standing indifferently next to the family head, Yu Tang raised his gaze to meet the great general’s eyes. The great general touched his earpiece and his lips moved.
“Tangtang, you find someone to dance with too. It’s too dull to stand around with us old people.” Yu Taixian pushed Yu Tang, indicating for him to go over to the girls.
Yu Tang nodded and slowly walked over.
The unmarried young ladies of the capital’s wealthy families were all here. They were standing and sitting around, dressed in exquisite evening dresses. Seeing Yu Tang walk over, their spirits lifted one after another. It wasn’t that all of them were infatuated with Yu Tang, but because he was the lead character in today’s banquet. For him to invite them to have the first dance would be such an honour.
Yu Tang walked right over to the young ladies. Cheng Xinran, standing at the very front, widened her eyes and lowered her head a little shyly, waiting for Yu Tang to come over and extend his hand to her.
She had already visited Mother Yu before the start of the banquet. Mother Yu had liked her since she was young, and the Cheng family had privately discussed it with the Yu family head. Both families were very satisfied with this marriage, and it could be a.s.sumed that Yu Taixian had already told Yu Tang about it.
Sure enough, Yu Tang walked over to Cheng Xinran. Then, in front of everyone’s eyes, he walked past her and through the crowd to arrive in front of Song Xiao.
Song Xiao was still holding the warm tea which Cao Gonggong had just refilled, and had the att.i.tude of one watching pa.s.sively from the sidelines; there was even little Yu Lin in a suit standing next to him.
“May I have this dance?” Yu Tang stretched out his hand, palm up, in front of Song Xiao.
The entire hall fell silent; even the band forgot to play.
“Tangtang, what are you doing?!” When Yu Taixian saw this, he inhaled sharply and nearly fainted.
Standing there, Song Xiao was dressed in a white suit that was identical to the one Yu Tang was wearing. Only the colour was different, but they looked even more like a match!
Song Xiao sighed helplessly and pa.s.sed the cup to Dugu An in the shadows, then raised his gaze to look at His Majesty the emperor.
【Your Majesty, this isn’t right ba…】
【Less nonsense, give zhen your hand! If you’re disobedient, wait for the family discipline!】
The two of them exchanged countless meaningful looks in an instant. In the end, Song Xiao was ruthlessly suppressed, and he slowly placed his hand in Yu Tang’s.
Yu Tang was satisfied, and headed to the dance floor with Song Xiao’s hand in his grasp. The dumbstruck crowd subconsciously parted and made way for them. The band began to play a soothing and melodious tune, which was very moving.
The two of them danced the male part, forward and backwards, swaying back and forth; there weren’t any extremely difficult techniques, and they merely exchanged looks and shared the pace with immeasurably tacit understanding.
“Haha, this child is really funny. Afraid to make the girls sad, he simply found a boy to have the first dance.” Standing beside Yu Taixian, the Cheng family head chuckled as he spoke, instantly dissolving the current awkwardness.
“This child is just too headstrong.” Yu Taixian followed up with these words, his expression becoming a little better.
The others also returned to their senses as they searched for dance partners and walked towards the dance floor one after another. As they danced, however, everyone couldn’t help looking at Yu Tang.
A lot of people knew about what happened online, and they naturally understood that Yu Tang liked Song Xiao. Seeing the two of them dressed in similar suits today, if nothing else, they looked pretty compatible…
Cheng Xinran felt very humiliated, and hid in a corner to toss back a gla.s.s of wine. Yu Tang grandiosely inviting a man to dance like this was just a slap to her face.
After the song ended, Yu Tang pulled Song Xiao over to the side as everyone else continued dancing to the second song.
“Tang shaoye, the family head wants you to go over.” A servant came over to call for Yu Tang.
Yu Tang looked at his grandfather. A few young ladies from wealthy families were standing there, and his heart felt tired. He lowered his head to look at the time, and let go of Song Xiao’s hand. After some thought, he bent his head again to say something in Song Xiao’s ear.
