Chapter 7

Point of View: Eris Jane Trinidad

"Mhm~! I feel so full…" I looped my arms with Eros' as we walked back to the clubhouse, a wide smile on my face. See, Eros treated me to a snack in Mini Stop, one hotdog sandwich and a c.o.ke.

"Tss! This is the last time. Next time I wouldn't treat you to anything even if you bawled on the streets."

I giggled out loud at that scenario. Earlier, when he didn't want to treat me, I stared him down and slowly cried on in the middle of the streets. In the end, he couldn't stand it and gave me food.

"But at least we made progress with the heart today, right?"

He scoffed, looking grumpy again. "Yeah right, they disappeared as fast as they appeared. It was as if I never earned them at all."

I gave him an exasperated look. "Well, what do you expect happens when you curse! You shouldn't say bad words anymore, because we really will lose our progress," I scolded him.

"What can I do, it's just in my vocabulary."

I glared at him. He could at least try! "Well then, what if you replace it instead with another word?"

"Huh?"

"For example, everytime that you feel like you're going to curse, instead of saying bad words just replace them with other words like fudge, cheese, cake or ice cream! It would be better if you stopped cursing at all, though."

"Why are most of them food!? And are you saying that instead of saying 'f.u.c.k' I should just say 'fudge' or something like that?"

I nodded. "Yup. At least in that way you can still express yourself without saying any bad word!"

"No way. That's corny. Cheese? Fudge? That just sounds r.e.t.a.r.ded. And stopping myself from cursing at all seems impossible."

"Eros!" I sighed, jabbing him in the side. I began to stare him down again, tears gathering at my eyes, the undisputed 'i-wont-stop-crying-if-you-won't-give-in' tactic!

He squawked, immediately holding me by the shoulders and shaking me, "oi, oi! Stop that!"

I secretly hid a grin.

"Alright! Alright! I'll do that!  Just stop doing that! M-Motherfudger! See!? Stop crying!"

I immediately wiped away my tears and hugged him tight again, cheering. "Yay! You have to stay true to what you said, okay? So we don't lose what percent we have. And besides, cursing isn't good for you, nor should you make a habit from it."

"You mother of-!"

After that we resumed walking to the clubhouse. Eros said he wanted me to meet some of his friends. It really made me curious! This was the first time I'd meet them save for Memo which I already met yesterday. I'm so excited!

Nearby, my ears picked up on the sound of meowing.

"Awww! This kitten is so cute!" While we were walking we saw a small kitten near the trashcans, inside a worn-out box. The cat was small, like a kitten, meowing and meowing.

But when I looked at Eros I saw a disgusted expression on his face. "What's cute about that!? It's a black cat! It's bad luck- hey! Don't touch it!"

I ignored him and slowly walked over to the kitten. " Are you even listening to me!?I said that that's bad luck!"

I raised the frail kitten with both hands, eventually cradling it. I smiled when the kitten curled up on my arm. "How is this bad luck? Besides, you believe in that?"

He continued to frown. "I, personally, don't believe in that. It's not the kitten's fault his fur is black. Besides, look at how cute he is!"

I raised the kitten high enough to get close to his face, so he could see how adorable it was. Eros blanched and hastily skidded a few steps back, so I stepped closer with each step he took backwards.

"Don't do that!" He hissed, glaring. "Get it away from me. Besides, it's dirty."

"Then let's give him a bath!"

"That wasn't what I meant!"

I bulldozed forward, mentally giggling. "Let's bring the kitten to the clubhouse, Eros… I think he might be a stray kitty. He has no home, no family… let's adopt him!"

After  finished speaking,  I looked up, and for a moment there I saw Eros' eyes filled with severe annoyance.

"I don't want to," he stubbornly refused.

"But Eros, look at him, don't you feel pity? He's weak and helpless and more than likely starving! He must be lonely and scared being left here all alone!"

"I said I don't want to! Just put it down and let's go!"

"But…"

"ARGH, YOU'RE ON YOUR OWN!" He shouted out before walking away, his fists clenched and in his pockets.

Even though  really didn't want to, I put back the kitten in the box. "Sorry little guy, Eros can be really mean sometimes. I think he's mad at everything, to be honest."

I sighed.

"Well… I can't take you now, so I'll pray for you instead. G.o.d will take care of you."

I closed my eyes and prayed. "Lord, please look over this kitten. Please let the person who take him have a good soul, please give this kitten to the right people. Take care of him, please. Thank you."

After that, I began to run away, eventually catching up to Eros, although he was a bit far away already. I tugged on his arm and chided him.

"Eros, look! The heart's redness decreased because of what you did to that kitten. That was really cold, you know."

"Can you just shut up!?" He gave me a harsh glare, and I flinched back. It seems that he wasn't only annoyed, but actually angry as well… what's wrong with him?

I couldn't help but frown while we were walking, until we reached the clubhouse. That kitten… it was already all alone, but he wouldn't relent…

As soon as we got inside though, I noticed it was noisy inside and there were some people. There were about five of them, all boys. They also noticed us as we came in, and one of them who was sitting on the couch whistled at us, a remote in one hand and chips in the other. "Wow Eros, you brought a chick! You've grown up!"

"As-"

I pinched his hand, scolding him again. "Nope!"

I knew he was going to curse again, so I reminded him of what we talked about before with a look.

Judging by the look he gave me after, he must have gotten it, and stopped immediately.

"Shut up Seven. And don't call her a chick, what about her seems like a chick!?"

"Dude, no need to take it literally," the guy replied, which I guessed was Seven.

Eros scoffed. "Just shut up if you don't want to get punched in the face."

"Wo-w, that really scares me," Seven teased him. Eros only tsked before heading off to the kitchen.

"Jeez, he really has no manners. He left you alone and didn't even introduce you. What a guy," Memo off-handedly remarked, surprising me when he suddenly appeared by my side like a mushroom. I didn't notice him at all…

"h.e.l.lo Eris," he smiled at me. His smile doesn't look sincere, as an angel I can feel it.

"Ah… h.e.l.lo…"

"Want me to introduce you the squad?" I nodded, and he tugged me to the others.

"Guys, this is Eris, Eros' girlfriend."

"Woah. Eros, she's your girlfriend?"

"What the- really?"

"Are you joking?"

One of them burst into laughter. "Eros, with a girlfriend! I can't believe it."

It got really loud in the living room, all of them teasing and playing around. There were so many violent reactions…

But the most violent of them all had to be Eros' when he shouted from the kitchen. "you a.s.sholes, that's not my girlfriend! She's just an acquiantance, so leave it alone!"

… he cursed again. I sighed.

"Oh…"

"Ah…."

"Um…"

"Ahem, you heard the guy… she's just an ACQUIANTANCE of Eros. For the meantime Eris will be staying here, since she ran away from home. Don't question it, the matter's confidential."

Oh, so that's the excuse Eros used so Memo could let me stay here.

"Hi Eris," one of the guys sidled up to me. I smiled back. He was wearing a clean and neat uniform, a pretty face and most of all he looked nice. He looked like the most decent guy in the clubhouse. "I'm Trey, don't worry about these guys. Even if they seem abnormal they won't bte, so you don't have to worry about your stay here."

"Oi, what was that about us biting Trey!? What do you think of us, dogs!? Seven is the only dog here, he even has rabies!" A guy shouted by the billiard board in the living room. He looked remarkably handsome, like a model, but he had sharp features and a sn.o.bbish aura around him.

"Hey Cross!" Seven stood up from where he was and called the model-like person who just spoke. "I'll have you know I'm a very handsome dog!"

"You wish!"

"My lady," a voice spoke up from beside me, startling me since I didnt notice him at all. Then again, I got really absorbed in their banter. He was holding a biliard stick in one hand and with his other he took my right hand and kissed it. "You, are the prettiest girl I've ever seen."

"Saturn, that was corny! Your pick-up lines suck!" Seven threw a couch pillow at the back of the head of who I think was Saturn. "Eris, don't believe whatever that guy says. He always says the same thing to every girl so you shouldn't fall for that idiot's lines."

"Jeez, can you not rain on a guy's parade?"

I smiled. Eros' squad was funny, and they seemed close too. They weren't the type that was sweet to each other, they teased each other to show their affection. How cute!

After a hours, I felt confident enough to say that I was pretty close with them. We even had dinner together!

Or… well, I felt close with Seven and Trey… Seven was friendly and playful, and Trey was pretty kind… Saturn was too much of a playboy, so I felt hesitant talking with him. And Cross, well, he was like a woman on menopause.

Sometimes I'd talk with Memo, but most of the time he was by the side playing chess… against himself? Weird… I only noticed that. Makes me want to try it sometime.

Eros on the other hand played billiard with Cross and Saturn.

So here I was, on the couch, Seven sat down next to me. Trey was sitting next to me earlier too, but he eventually left and said goodbye. He said he was going to go pa.s.s by his girlfriend's house, Sena was her name.

Eventually, we heard someone knocking on the door. Memo stood up and opened the door, letting a woman in.

"Oh Eya, you're here for a visit?"

"Where's that monster?"

Monster? There was a monster here…?

The woman looked around, scanning the room before she stopped, probably seeing monster she was looking for, shouting, "you a.s.s, I finally found you!"

After saying that, she walked over to Cross and twisted his ear. Cross on the other hand, kept shouting ow.

"You jerk! I was looking for you for so long, since you didn't call me or text me, I thought something happened to you! You just disappeared without saying anything, do you know how worried I was, you idiot!? Let's go home!"

She then proceeded to drag Cross outside.

"Can't believe that his girlfriend just dragged him off like that," Seven commented on Seven after laughing at them.

"Girlfriend?"

"Yup, that girl was Eya. The schoolmate of menopause- I mean Cross, also his personal maid."

"Waaa! Personal maid?"

"Yup, see, Eya's poor. But do you now what's funny about their story? Cross really hated Eya before, as in he was disgusted by her mere presence but in the end…  the more they hate, the more they love… they got together. Their story is pretty confusing, I really couldn't understand how they got together since they used to be mortal enemies."

"Oi, nice one!" I was surprised when he suddenly switched the topic after changing the channel. MTV was showing on the T.V., a band playing music. "I know them!"

"Who?"

"The singer."

"Everybody know who he is, isn't he a singer? He's famous, so it's easy to know who he is."

"That's not what I meant! I know him as in I know him. That guy's my friend in real life.

"Huh, really?"

"Yeah, he's Sync Mnemosyne, he was our squadmate too before he got famous. He doesn't visit much anymore here since he had a hectic schedule since becoming a singer."

"Wow, cool, you have a friend that's a singer !"

It was fun sitting next to Seven since I got to know so much from him, he was really chatty and fun to talk to. Just from listening to him, I got to know everyone in Ero's squad, because he kept on telling me stories about everyone, especially about Eros.

"Oh, Eros? That b.a.s.t.a.r.d has no hope in life- oh, sorry, you don't like cursing, I forgot," he apologized with a sheepish grin on his face. I also scolded him earlier on when he started cursing, since he also liked to curse.

"That dude has serious problems at home and in his brain. I mean, he wasn't like that before, he was still kind of okay, not that much of a rebel. He still used to go to school but when he reached fourth year, at about the third quarter of the school year he suddenly changed. He was already a rebel before, lazily attending, an idiot, but he became even more of a rebel then when third quarter started. As in he never attended cla.s.s anymore, he started beating up people and taking illegal substances like marijuana and other types of drugs. He also had to repeat a few times because of that."

"I don't really get why he changed," he continued, holding his chin in one hand, a contemplative look on his face. "But I think it's connected to his family problems. He started rebelling after he found out he was adopted…"

"Adopted?!"

"Yeah, when Eros reached highschool he found out he was only adopted. I don't know the whole story, but that's what he told us. He must have been really disappointed that he wasn't really the son of the people he thought was his real parents so he became like that. Uh… keep mum about this okay? Don't tell him I told this to you, or people might find my body floating on the river if he found out I told you stories about him," he said, laughing a little.

I felt a wave of sadness flow through me. Eros was adopted. So that was why he was like that, he just wanted to cover up what he felt by acting tough.

"Let's bring the kitten to the clubhouse, Eros… I think he might be a stray kitty. He has no home, no family… let's adopt him!"

I suddenly had a flashback to what I said earlier. When I said 'adopt'… was that why he suddenly got angry at me?

Did he see himself as that stray black cat?

Change of Point of View: Eros Magdayo

"Oh fu- fudge!" Phew, I almost cursed there. That annoying angel would yak my ears off again if she heard me curse. It was actually pretty annoying like her, her voice grated on my ears. It'd be nice if I could remove her vocal chords.

"It's raining… argh, why would it rain now?" I grumbled when I saw the outside eventually become hazy and foggy in the evening rain.

"Memo, let me borrow an umbrella," I called out before taking a random umbrella by the side and going out. As I waled out of the door though, I heard that annoying angel say goodbye to me.

"Bye Eros, take care! Goodnight!" She beamed, waving at me.

I just rolled my eyes at her and left.

The rain was really irritating me. I was just walking home since it wasn't that far, but it was troublesome having to walk home in the rain.

I shivered as a cold gust of wind hit me… it was really cold. Jeez, why does it have to rain so much over the week?

"Meow~"

"Holy mother of-!" I almost had a heart attack when I suddenly heard meowing from the side of the road, since it was really quiet and I was the only person walking out and then suddenly something was meowing.

"Meow! Meow~"

I resolutely ignored the sound and continued walking on, but before long I heard the same sound again.

"Meow~"

I started when I turned around to see the kitten standing there. I furiously shooed it away with a hand. "Don't follow me! Go. Away!"

I turned around and resumed walking but I only got a few steps forwards when I heard meowing again and when I turned around, I saw the kitten was still there.yun lang sinabi ko at naglakad na ako pero ilang saglit pa lang ng paglalakad ko bigla akong nakarinig nanaman ng ngiyaw.

"OI! I'M GOING TO TURN YOU INTO A MINCEMEAT IF YOU KEEP ON FOLLOWING ME!" I had hoped that that would make it go away, but it only meowed again.

I bent over to pick it up and place it somewhere it couldn't follow me from, but then I noticed that it was soaking wet and shivering…

"Meooow!" The kitten only seemed to meow louder as if it was crying… s.h.i.t, what the h.e.l.l was I saying? A cat? Crying? What the f.u.c.k?"

"Meooow…"

"Stop crying you d.a.m.n cat! Who cares if you got left behind on the streets? In a box? So what if you're all by yourself? Don't look at me for help!" I ran my hands through my hair, remembering that it was raining when I felt something running down  my cheeks…

But then I remembered, how could it rain on me if I still had my umbrella?
