Chapter 75 Jenny
Jenny Braun walked carefully along the streets, searching for help. She even styled herself in an effort to increase her probability of success.
Jenny originally had long, straight hair which she always wore in a bun. However, she cut it into a bob. I think it’s better for me to remove it. Please check if at grammatically correct. Hahahah thanks! According to a magazine, it can enhance the attractiveness of women, and showed s.e.xual suggestiveness. She even applied heavy make-up on her face and tore apart her expensive Chanel haute couture clothing.
She tore her black skirt into half and turned it into a mini cheongsam. She unb.u.t.toned her top, and as a result, her body was now barely covered. She even took off her tube, leaving the demi bra to be the only thing supporting her b.r.e.a.s.t.s. She exposed her deep cleavage.
In the past, Jenny would not dare dress so vulgarly. She was a top student at the New York University School of Journalism, and the youngest columnist in the Wall Street Journal as well as The New York Times. She was raised to have good eloquence, but her dream was to win the Pulitzer Prize.
However, all those things had now vanished like smoke into thin air. The Pulitzer Prize no longer existed. All media outlets around the world had always dreamt to publish incredible breaking news. That breaking news had now indeed happened, but the media was also done for.
Jenny kept issuing press releases during the beginning of the cataclysm. However, she soon realized that she was in danger too. Without food, water, and the network connection becoming unstable, several well-known media outlets had stopped reporting over time.
What did it mean? It meant that the situation was deteriorating in an unbelievable rate. The cataclysm was pulling everyone in New York City into an elusive abyss. Jenny could not suppress her fear. She hence hoped that someone could help her, but the chances of her getting help were getting smaller and smaller.
“Sir, can you help me?” Jenny flipped her hair as she found a strong-looking man. She even squeezed her b.r.e.a.s.t.s purposefully, in her effort to make herself look more attractive.
Yet the strong man did not make any move after throwing a glance at Jenny. A lot of people in the city had not eaten or drunk anything since the riots from last night. They could still endure their hunger, but they no longer wanted to move due to the thirst.
A sense of despair and confusion hung all over the building. With the exception of the mobsters, only a handful of security guards had possession of food and water. There were so many people who stared at those supplies. A lady successfully laid her hands on the food and water by selling her body. The others who think that they were pretty then began to follow suit.
In the beginning, those security guards could bring a pretty woman into a room with just a gla.s.s of water or a small box of biscuits. This dramatic change had startled Jenny. She even wrote a press release about the ugliness of human nature.
Her article was, however, useless. Jenny found herself in the midst of a dilemma: Should she just sell her body in exchange for food and drinking water, or even for protection? Selling her body meant that she had to give up her dignity, but not selling her body meant that she could only give up her life.
However, those security guards no longer wanted to give out their remaining resources even as Jenny still hesitated. Everyone was well aware that the situation would only continue to deteriorate.
Someone was planning to escape out of the building, but their probability of success was far too low. Jenny even saw a man being shot to death after running few meters out of the building. A lot of people, including Jenny, cried when they saw the scene.
“Can anyone help me?” Jenny climbed from the fifth floor to the ninth floor. She then climbed down from the ninth floor back to the fifth floor. She had asked for help from almost everyone in the building, except for the tenth floor that was being guarded by the mobsters.
"There's still a child in my family and I need to go back and take care of her." Jenny felt depressed. She continued asking while she was crying. Her tears and begging can occasionally arouse the attention of the others, but nothing had changed. The others continued to sigh and stare at her with hard eyes.
“I beg you, my daughter is only eight years old. She’s home alone, and she doesn’t have the ability to look after herself. I’ve hired a babysitter, but she had escaped too. I’m extremely worried about her.” Jenny’s tears had almost dried up, but it was still useless. Everyone was now helpless, and thus, no one can help her at the moment.
Jenny ran from one corridor to another. She was tired and thirsty too. Without much energy left, she walked around a corner and saw a person across from her. A brave-lookin man was striding with pride.
This type of person no longer existed within the building.
“Sir, sir, please wait for a minute!” Jenny chased after him. She shouted in order to gain his attention.
Even so, the man did not seem to be very friendly. Instead, he pointed his gun at her and said, “Step back, I won’t be helping anyone. If you want to live on, escape out of Manhattan when the night falls. Pray to G.o.d if you want to succeed!”
The man was around a hundred eighty centimeters in height. He wore a police uniform and a coat. He even used a helmet and a mask to cover up his face. The people around him looked all inexplicably fearful.
However, Jenny did not give up. As a reporter, she possessed a clever mind. She followed him closely, just as if she were grasping the final hope of her life. "Sir, can you tell me where you came from?"
“I came from outside.” The man refused to talk much about it. He made sure his words were all concise.
“Why did you come in? Perhaps I can help you with something?” Jenny was overjoyed when he seemed willing to talk. She was a reporter, and thus, she knew how to communicate with people.
Jenny then stood firmly and posed attractively when the man stopped walking. She even took off her bra and shook her b.r.e.a.s.t.s slightly. She was trying to use the simplest method of flirting with a man. “What do you think? Perhaps you’ll need me. I can do whatever you want.”
Jenny was confident that she was still quite a gorgeous lady. She felt that she was the best in terms of figure and appearance. However, the man in front of her was not seduced by her. In contrast, he pitied her.
“Madam, please put on your clothes. I really can’t help you. Listen to me, leave this place when the night falls if you really want to live. Remember to not escape via the Brooklyn Bridge. Use another route, go to the South, and find a small town to live in.” the man replied to her in a deep voice.
The others would have felt depressed and left if they were in Jenny Braun’s position. However, as a reporter, she had noticed the most crucial point of the man’s words—the escape plan which the man had mentioned was actually very specific. It showed that the man was well-acquainted with the situation outside. Hence, he was much stronger than most of the clueless people residing in the building.
I have to follow him. I have to follow him no matter what happens. Following him would be my only chance of survival! Jenny Braun readjusted her att.i.tude. She put on her bra and clothes. She even re-tied her hair. She still insisted on following the man in front of her. and there was no way she would give up.
“Hey! I’ve already said that I can’t help you. I’m very busy right now, do you understand?” the man yelled at Jenny angrily after seeing her persistence to follow him.
“I won’t disturb you. I won’t even ask for anything from you. I just want to follow you.” Jenny Braun humbled herself as she began to use a careful tone when speaking with the man. She then offered her hand and said, “I’m Jenny Braun. Can I be friends with you? Please?”
