Chapter 167 - Reporter II
Xian Zihao raised his eyebrows and said in a low voice that only she could hear, "Don't go over there. It's very dangerous."
Just then, the laborer suddenly shouted, "I don't believe you're a reporter! What proof do you have? Do you have a press card or something? Who knows if you are one of them!"
The laborer was not stupid and asked loudly.
Jiang Ruolan was stunned. She turned around to look at the laborer and took out her working ID from her pocket. "This is my ID."
"I can't see it clearly, give it to me!"
Jiang Ruolan hesitated for a moment when she heard the laborer's words. She glanced at where the laborer was standing and immediately tightened her grip on her working ID.
"Give me your working ID. I'll show it to him." Xian Zihao suddenly walked towards her.
Jiang Ruolan was just about to say no, when she heard the laborer yell angrily, "Let her come! Other than her, none of you are allowed to approach!"
Xian Zihao cast a sidelong glance at the laborer. His gaze was as cold as ice. He had a lot of burdens to shoulder. Besides, he also worried about her.
Jiang Ruolan smiled and said, "It's fine. He needs my help. Right now, only I can help him. He won't do anything to me."
Xian Zihao looked at her hesitantly. Obviously, he did not want her to take the risk for him, but she smiled as she held her working ID. "Besides, there are not many media companies here. You will take at least 20 minutes to call a reporter to come here. I think he is already tired."
Finally, Xian Zihao understood that at this moment, Jiang Ruolan was the only one who could get close to the laborer. Although he didn't want to risk her life, she was right. This was the media's professional character and ethics. The media was sometimes the only way for citizens to communicate.
Xian Zihao let go of her hand. He seemed a little helpless against her for trying so hard, but he was forced to agree by the circ.u.mstances and could only let her do as she pleased. "Be careful."
Jiang Ruolan nodded and looked at the laborer. "I will walk there. You will see my working ID and confirm that I am a reporter. I will also record the conversation you had with President Xian. I promise, as long as you are innocent, after today, you will not be harmed again!"
No one wanted to die unless they were forced into a dead end.
Hearing Jiang Ruolan's words, the laborer seemed to see a glimmer of hope and nodded his head, "Okay, come over here. I can see that you are indeed a reporter, so I believe you!"
Jiang Ruolan looked at the situation in front of him anxiously. When she heard the laborer's words, she felt even more pressure. She could no longer hesitate as she took her working ID and walked over.
Just as she took a step forward, her legs trembled. Although she wasn't afraid of heights, this building was at least 18 stories tall and not to mention that she, herself, didn't have much confidence.
Whether it was bravado or a real career, at least at that moment, she felt that she should do something for Xian Zihao.
Or perhaps something for this pitiful civilian worker.
Jiang Ruolan tried to calm her emotions and approached the laborer.
She looked at the place where he was standing, and her heart felt a little scared. She then took a small step forward, and after that step, she stood on the balcony and could definitely see everything that was happening below the private building.
Jiang Ruolan had also stood at the edge of the building, but she did her best to ignore that height and tried to calm her heart as she carefully looked at the doubt in the laborer's eyes.
The laborer's hands were trembling as he took her working ID. He looked at it for a long time and could barely read the words like the press and media. Then he looked at the one inch photo, then at Jiang Ruolan, before taking a deep breath.
Jiang Ruolan thought that he finally believed in her, but just as she was about to sigh in relief, the laborer suddenly grabbed her hand, shocking her until her entire body froze.
Xian Zihao, a.s.sistant Bai, and Secretary Du also stepped forward.
"Miss reporter! Miss reporter, I'll leave my life to you! You must help me seek justice! I don't want to be locked up by those people anymore! I'm not sick, I'm not insane, I don't need to go to a mental hospital, I don't want them to give me sedatives, the doctors still beat me up every day. I'm begging you! I'm begging you, please help me! I know I was wrong, I shouldn't ask for money for no reason, but I'm not that old. At most, I'll be punished for a few days, right? Why did they do this to me? Why? Those people have no conscience. Miss reporter, you must help me, otherwise I will not be able to survive!"
"You …" Jiang Ruolan could feel that his hands were covered in sweat. She really wanted to throw him off, but she couldn't bear to do so. Not to mention that this place was so dangerous.
Jiang Ruolan didn't dare to make any movements and could only nod her head in agreement. "I'll help you. I'll definitely help you."
"You must not lie to me, my life is on your shoulders!" The laborer suddenly grabbed her wrist fiercely. With a menacing look in his eyes, he said, "Otherwise, I will pull you down with me!"
"Calm down!" Xian Zihao, who was unable to get close, said in a stern voice.
"Alright, let me calm down. I'm calm." The laborer nodded. He hesitated for a while and then said, "That day during the riots with the Criminal Police, I was actually ...I ..."
At the same time, his gaze froze for a moment, as if he had been stunned. The laborer was trembling. Just as Jiang Ruolan was about to ask him what was going on, he seemed to have lost his balance and couldn't stand still. He originally wanted to step down, but he suddenly slipped and fell back as soon as he moved.
Before Jiang Ruolan could react, the laborer suddenly grabbed her wrist with his hand. It was as if he only wanted to use her as a support but ignored that she also couldn't support him.
Suddenly, Jiang Ruolan was pushed down and her mind became blank …
She even forgot to cry for help when she heard Xian Zihao's voice which sounded like his heart was broken, "Ruolan!"
The moment she fell, she subconsciously reached back and grabbed the hands of the laborer. She fell, the laborer fell, and the two of them fell at the same time. Just as she thought she would die just like that, someone quickly pulled the laborer's arm.
The laborer was already screaming in panic and was even struggling to wave Jiang Ruolan's hand away.
Jiang Ruolan desperately grabbed his hand and refused to let go. She looked up and saw Xian Zihao was the first to rush forward and hold the laborer's hand.
"Ahh … I don't want to die, I don't want to die!" The laborer cried and screamed, "Pull me up. I don't want to die!"
"If you don't want to die, then don't move recklessly!" Xian Zihao frowned. A few people came over to help, but their movements were a little slow.
Both of them were too heavy and their weight made the rescue team struggle to save them.
Jiang Ruolan tightly held onto the laborer's hand while she felt something poke at the back of her head. It was extremely painful. She suddenly felt a warmth on her neck. She was somewhat surprised and bewildered. She smelled blood but did not know what exactly had hit her head. However, she still held onto the hands of the laborer with all her consciousness.
"Let me go, don't pull me down, let go, let go!" That laborer was afraid of death. He was afraid that Jiang Ruolan would drag him down with her and try to shake her off.
Jiang Ruolan started to feel dizzy and could not hold on any longer,
Xian Zihao sternly shouted from above, "Don't move recklessly! If she falls, I will let you die with her! If you don't want to die, then don't move recklessly!"
The laborer immediately stopped swinging his arms, but Jiang Ruolan didn't have much strength left. Her arms were in pain from the hanging position, and she was covered in sweat.
Jiang Ruolan gradually lost control of her hands as her body started to slide down.
The people at the top tried to drag them up.
Jiang Ruolan's vision started to blur and her consciousness began to fade as more and more blood flowed from the back of her head.
As soon as the laborer was dragged up, Xian Zihao immediately tried to grab her hand, trying to pull her back. She was no longer able to hold on to anything.
He instantly grabbed her sliding arm. "Ruolan, hold on tight!"
She wanted to move her hands, but she was too weak. She could vaguely hear that the metal door of the rooftop was kicked open by someone. She didn't know who had rushed over, but she didn't have the energy to think about it.
A strange buzzing sound entered her ears, making her feel uncomfortable. She felt as if her vision had turned black and it was even difficult for her to breathe.
The moment Jiang Ruolan was finally pulled up, Xian Zihao quickly bent down and hugged her, only to find that the back of her head was bleeding profusely. "Ruolan?!"
His hands trembled as he held her, his right hand on the back of her head. He could feel the blood seeping through his fingers.
Jiang Ruolan slightly opened her eyes. She saw that Xian Zihao's face was frighteningly white. She wanted to say that she was fine, but no words came out as she opened her mouth.
Jiang Ruolan tried to smile at him and hold his hand tightly.
She heard his voice close to her ear, gently comforting her, "Don't be afraid, Ruolan. Don't be afraid, okay. Let's go to the hospital. We'll go to the hospital immediately!"
Jiang Ruolan reluctantly nodded her head and at the same time, her vision became completely blurry. She could only see faint shadows crisscrossing in front of her eyes. She couldn't tell if it was black or white. It was chaos.
"Call an ambulance!" Xian Zihao tried his best to maintain his calm as he placed his hand on the back of her head, trying to stop the blood from flowing out.
However, when he raised his head, he was shocked to see Qin Gengxin, who had kicked open the door to the rooftop.
"Call an ambulance! Madam Xian is injured and is on the verge of death. Quickly!" Secretary Du hurriedly said to a.s.sistant Bai, who was on the phone.
The word "Madam Xian" caused Qin Gengxin, who rushed forward to freeze on the spot.
