A Hero's Multiverse 5 Chapter 4: Interview With God

As soon as Ethen steps through the gate, the whole interior of the temple lightens up, as the roots at the ceiling begin to glow in bright white light. To Deadpool's dismay his former body, still fixed between the roots at the center turns liquid and is absorbed by the white glowing roots.

''I guess that's what some call hydration!'' Comments Wade, horrified by the prospect of being liquified.

Ignoring the comment Ethen is surprised by the temples now revealed intricate and lavish decorations. The floor is painted in warm golden, the walls are a deep sea blue. Contrary to his earlier beliefs the blue walls all around are divided into different sections by golden wall pillars. Getting a closer look, Ethen discovers ever-changing gate frames on the walls.

A rumble goes through the entire structure, as Deadpool body turned liquid is entirely absorbed by the roots. Suddenly the roots in the center of the room retreat into the floor and ceiling, while simultaneously eight fire sh.e.l.ls rise out of the floor in front of the eight golden wall pillars. Before Ethen knows what is going on, one of the fire sh.e.l.ls suddenly self ignites and a blazing head can be felt coming from it.

Turning back around, and focusing on the expected to be the empty center, they discover an altar formed by the still white glowing roots, with a small pond its center.

Still a bit p.i.s.sed of seeing his precious body become liquid, Deadpool complains. ''What is this place? the Temple of Tyr?''

''I a.s.sure you, it is not!...'' Booms a divine voice throughout the temple all of a sudden, answering Wade's question. ''... This place is in a way the center and birthplace of all Universes, Realities, Time and s.p.a.ce, as well as the origin of the Multiverse as it exists in its entirety.''

Understanding dawning in his mind, Wade asks with a wide grin. ''Are you saying this is the developer room of the Universe?''

Happy to be understood the voice explains. ''Yes, exactly, BUT I have deactivated any and all functions that make this place a universe breaking existence.''

''What a b.u.mmer!...'' Says the skull, a little bit disappointed. ''... You are way smarter than a certain game developer!...''

Not really understanding what is going on, Ethen suddenly asks, interrupting Deadpool's and the voices ramblings. ''Who are you?''

Surprise apparent in the voice. ''Who I am is an age-old question... In your Universe, I was known as 'The Presence'... In Pool's Universe, I am known as 'The One above all'... At the end of the day, I prefer plain old 'G.o.d'!''

Seeing his chance of returning to his dystopian Universe or even the chance to revive his parents, Ethen says. ''So 'G.o.d' can you help me and restore my timeline. I would love to return home!''

''Oh, ahm sorry about that, but I can't do that!''

Mentally questioning the all-mightiness of the voice, Deadpool asks. ''Why?''

Sounding embarra.s.s G.o.d tells them. ''Because it was an executive decision not made by me.''

''Then who did?'' Asks Ethen being a bit p.i.s.sed by now. -What kind of G.o.d lets these kinds of decision be made without his own consent?-

''A very lazy one!... Look there are two people responsible for the obliteration of your specific timeline.''

Eager to see some action happen Deadpool comments. ''Give us the names and we can go all stabby-stabby on their a.s.ses.''

''Now I am regretting allowing Fabian Nicieza and Rob Liefeld to give you the ability to break the fourth wall. You simply know too dam much...''

Annoyed by G.o.d avoiding the question Ethen says demanding an answer. ''Names, please!... I really would like to have a good, long talk with them.''

''Damme! Your timeline was in Universe erased by a man named Doctor Manhatten but outside this multiverse, it was Geoff Johns who pulled the plug on it with his 'Rebirth Event'. Now all still existing multiverses of the DC Universe have your parents NOT hooking up.''

''G.o.d you are a cruel son of a b.i.t.c.h. That is even crueler than what you did to me!'' Complains Deadpool on Ethen's behalf, seeing that the man is utterly devastated by 'G.o.d's' revelation.

''Hey, don't call me names and or point fingers at me... As I said it was not me, but the board of creative directors in charge of the DC Universe... If not for me you Pool would still be rotting away, while being slowly liquefied until you are erased from existence oh and don't get me started about young Ethen here!''

Listening to the talk between the two, Ethen simply comments. ''Hey I am not that 'young'... I just turned 35 before my timeline was erased.''

''Lucky you! At least you know how old you are! I time traveled so often that I lost any sense of time!'' Says the skull simultaneously to G.o.ds simple statement. ''I am infinite!''

Making sense of the two answers Ethen can only comment. ''Well, I guess I really am young compared to the two of you.''

''My words exactly...'' Says Deadpool, before stating. ''... Now be a good 'boy' and listen to your elders... mainly me, your trusted Uncle Wade. Please ignore that old fart calling himself 'G.o.d'.''

''f.u.c.k you! If you are talking any more nonsense I will have 'Chimichangas' banned from all Universes indefinitely!''

Shocked Deadpool says. ''Oh, no! Sir, you are playing a dangerous game here. Threatening all Chimichangas in existence is definitely one step too far!''

''YOU...''

Having to break up the two contending birds, Ethen intervenes before innocents get caught up in the crossfire. ''Boys, or Boy and Girl, please let's go back to the main topic and answer the question of 'Why I am here even here?' in the first place!''

Retrieving his divine might G.o.d says. ''Excellent question...''

While Wade still p.i.s.sed about having his Chimichangas threatened says. ''Oh, shut up old fart!''

''Stop it skull...'' Says Ethen eager to hear why of all people from his erased timeline the specifically was chosen.

''The reason why you are here is you have no predetermined Destiny.''

Frowning Ethen asks. ''Explain?''

''Yes, well you have no predestined or prearranged story. In that regard, you are pretty much identical to me, because I too don't have any relation with destiny. You and I write our own lives story.''

''What is that supposed to mean?'' Ethen asks, but to his surprise, not G.o.d, but the skull answers his question. ''Have you hit your head? Isn't that already self-explanatory enough? What the old fart tries to say is he the all-knowing pinnacle of knowledge doesn't know how you decide in any given situation!''

''Pretty good explanation for someone who once was shackled by destiny...''

Shocked Wade says.''Thanks, old fart... But wait... What do you mean by ONCE?''

''What I mean is you have outlived your predestined end!''

Irritated Deadpool asks. ''What do you mean?... Am I now in the post-credits of my own movie? I think I will have to 'exchange some opinions' with Kevin Feige.''

''Stop it will you skull?...'' Tells Ethen the head, more interested in his own problems than his guides, before asking 'G.o.d'. ''Am I a villain or a hero now?''

''That depends on your own choices in the near future. I can only give you the ability to traverse the multiverse...'' Saying that Deadpool's irises suddenly start to glow in a faint golden light. ''... Since Deadpool here has given his word to be your guide throughout the Marvel Universe let him also be the key to the whole Multiverse... Place him on the altar and he can open the gates for you.''

''f.u.c.k you old fart! Who am I? Mimir?... s.h.i.t! That hurts!'' Screams Deadpool as his eyes become crystallized Gjallarbrú Gems.
