“We’re here just to give a statement and to pick you up,” Xia Wan said, briefly glancing in the direction of Brother Fang and his group.
Brother Fang, glaring angrily at Linda, pointed a finger at her and shouted,
“You coward! If you’re brave enough, don’t leave! Let’s settle this outside!”
A nearby police officer swiftly slapped away Brother Fang’s hand, scolding him harshly, “Challenging a woman to a fight, you are really something…”
The officer didn’t finish his sentence, but it was clear that it wasn’t meant to be a compliment. Brother Fang, not daring to press further, stayed silent.
“Bring it on! I’m not scared of you!” Linda retorted defiantly, unphased by Brother Fang’s threatening demeanor.
Brother Fang, further provoked by Linda’s challenge, became increasingly furious: “You’ll regret this!”
“Officer, when can I leave?” Brother Fang, now visibly agitated, asked with a raised voice.
After uttering these words, Brother Fang quickly realized his mistake and turned to see the police officer giving him a stern look.
Brother Fang immediately softened his tone, “I apologize, Officer! My remarks were not directed at you, but at that despicable woman!”
As Brother Fang pointed at Linda again, the officer knocked his hand down once more: “She might be free to leave, but you and your group aren’t going anywhere for a while! Thinking of arranging a fight, huh?”
“Want to bet I can keep you here for the next two weeks?”
The officer’s words, though sounding like a threat, were taken seriously by Brother Fang.
“Please, Officer! I have urgent matters to attend to outside!” pleaded Brother
Fang, then suddenly questioned, “Hold on, why can she leave and I can’t?”
The officer shot Brother Fang a stern glance, “Eyewitnesses confirmed that their actions were in self-defense. You, who instigated the trouble, think you can leave just like that?”
Realizing the gravity of the situation, Brother Fang calmed down, casting a quick glance at the tall, muscular man behind him.
Xia Wan noticed Brother Fang’s reaction, her suspicion about the tall man’s ident.i.ty growing.
The officer, however, didn’t catch Brother Fang’s look and addressed the group, including the tall man, “You can leave for now. But be prepared to return if we need further cooperation from you.”
The tall man nodded, ignoring Brother Fang, and headed for the exit.
Pa.s.sing by Xia Wan, he briefly paused before continuing out.
The others, also ignoring Brother Fang, followed the tall man out.
Linda, seeing Brother Fang’s companions desert him, stuck out her tongue mockingly, “You really have no friends at all!
“Look, even your own buddies have abandoned you!
“Just stay in the police station and reflect for a few days!”
After her remarks, Linda happily exited the police station with Xia Wan and Liu
Hua.
Reaching the entrance, they saw the tall man and his group hadn’t left yet.
Linda immediately positioned Xia Wan and Liu Hua behind her, whispering, “If they come this way, don’t worry about me and head straight back into the station, understand?”
Before Xia Wan could reply, the tall man began to approach them, causing both Linda and Liu Hua to tense up.
Just as the man was a mere meter away, someone called from a distance, “Miss Xia, haven’t you left yet?”
Everyone turned to see a man dressed in the uniform of a deputy police chief cheerfully jogging towards Xia Wan.
Xia Wan greeted him, “Deputy Chief Cai, is there something you need?”
Deputy Chief Cai, smiling warmly, said, “I heard from Xiao Song that you were here. Is there something you need help with?”
“It’s just a minor matter, no need to bother you, Deputy Chief Cai,” Xia Wan replied courteously.
After speaking, Xia Wan glanced back at the tall man, who, noticing, turned and left with his companions.
Xia Wan’s attention returned to Deputy Chief Cai, who looked somewhat troubled and hesitant.
“Do you need something from me, Deputy Chief Cai?” Xia Wan kindly inquired.
Encouraged by Xia Wan’s prompt, Deputy Chief Cai said, “Since Miss Xia has asked, I’ll speak openly.
“I’ve heard about your exceptional medical skills, Miss Xia.. My family has a patient at home; would it be possible to trouble you to take a look?”
