Primordial Blood Throne: Book 1 Chapter 6 - Reform
Second chapter of the week. Cheers!
Cuppa
"Unfilial son!"
The voice of Su Cheng An thundered throug the hall.
"Unfilial son! You actually lied to me!"
Pa! Su Cheng An slapped his son's face.
"What are you doing?" Tang Hong Rui rushed over to protect her son.
"You are still protecting him?!" Su Cheng An's body trembled in anger, he pointed at Su Chen, "This unfilial son dared to lie to his father, his eyes had never recovered."
"So?" Tang Hong Rui replied bluntly:,"The reason Chen'er had to do this was because you planned to support your brother's suggestion for a reform.”
"I was doing this for the good of the family."
"It is for the good of your Fourth Concubine to be exact," Tang Hong Rui stared coldly at Su Cheng An.
From the moment Su Cheng An started accepting the Second Concubine, his relationship with Tang Hong Rui had been plummeting; when Yan Wu Shuang joined, the husband and wife's relationship had reached a new low.
Su Cheng An paused for a moment before replying angrily, "I wanted to have another child but you are worried it will be disadvantageous to Chen'er and was unwilling, do you think I have any other choice?"
"Bulls.h.i.t!" Tang Hong Rui spat at her husband, "To bear a child, do you need to accept three concubines? It is obvious that you are blinded by l.u.s.t!"
Su Cheng An flushed and said, "As the heir of a large family, having more descendants is natural and just. Chen'er lost his sight; his future is fated to be bleak, as the future family patriarch, I have to nurture an outstanding successor, don't you understand this reasoning?"
His words weren't wrong.
The tradition belief of large family clans is the more descendants, the more blessed. The reason behind this was simple, with more descendants, even if most of them failed to live up to expectations, all you needed was just one who does succeed and it would lead the family to prosperity.
Due to this, when the older generation selected a successor, not only did they look at the abilities of the successor, they also factored in the potential of their children.
Su Cheng An was the eldest son of the patriarch, and by default he would become the next patriarch, however, if he does not have an excellent descendant, then the "future" of the clan might become "futureless", this is because, the Su Family would fall into internal fighting due to the lack of a suitable successor.
Tang Hong Rui angrily stared at her husband, "After saying so much, you are just selfish and only think about yourself."
"I only think about myself?" Su Cheng An felt wronged, "You should think about how I protected him over the past two years. Second Brother has been trying to get a reformation; I needed to fight off the pressure from the elders to maintain my stance, if not, he would not have gotten number one for the past two evaluations!"
"Indeed, however, that is when you learnt that your son's sight was recovering." Tang Hong Rui smiled coldly: "What about now?"
Su Cheng An got speechless.
"No longer want to maintain your stance, hm?" Tang Hong Rui continued. "Because you discovered that your son is no longer worth protecting?"
Su Cheng An's face turned livid, unable to say a word.
Tang Hong Rui looked at her husband in disappointment. "Su Cheng An, I have finally seen your true colors, you are just a b.a.s.t.a.r.d who only cares for his own interests, even weighing your own son's worth against your interest. If he has value, you will take care of him, protect him. If he has none, you will abandon immediately."
"When did I abandon him?" Su Cheng An felt wronged again. He only slapped his son once? That little b.a.s.t.a.r.d dared to lie to his father, this daddy is only disciplining him; and did not throw him out of the house, where's him abandoning his son? Furthermore, it was obvious his son was truly no longer suited to be a martial artist.…
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});However, these thoughts did not leave his mouth in the end, he only looked at his son and said, "Chen'er, tell me why you are unwilling to give-up even now?"
"Because I believe I will recover." Su Chen replied, "That beggar said so, he changed my eyes, he said that he will give me a future of infinite possibilities, this meant that it is possible for me to recover."
"Hewas just speaking rubbish!" unable to control himself, Su Cheng An roared.
He has heard this from Su Chen before, he once held the same hope. Even that period when Su Chen was in depression, he and his mother also used the same words to console him.
Yet two years have pa.s.sed, and Su Chen's eyes remained the same. What future with infinite possibilities?
Those words were just farts!
Everything's a lie, lies!
Su Cheng An gave up on hope, and only Su Chen and Tang Hong Rui continued to hold on, working hard towards it.
"Chen'er, you have to understand, that dream is unrealistic. How can you believe the words of someone that harmed you? You must wake up from your dreams, give up on those unrealistic illusions!" Su Cheng An solemnly preached.
"And after that?" Su Chen smiled. "When I give up, you will also be able to rightfully discard me, right?"
Su Cheng An was shocked, that plan he hid deep within his heart was unveiled by Su Chen, and he immediately felt anxious.
Impossible? He only fourteen years old and can clearly understand the human mind?
After that, his anxiousness turned into rage that ripped his old face.
He was using anger to hide his guilty conscious.
Su Cheng An shouted loudly,: "Impudent! Is that how you speak to your father?"
Su Chen did not reply, just "staring" at his father.
Although his eyes had been blinded but they looked the same as any normal person, eyes that are healthy with l.u.s.tre.
As he stared at Su Cheng An, his eyes made Su Cheng An feel another bout of uneasiness within his heart.
He seemingly needed to forcefully control his own emotions, to avoid being stared down by his son.
Su Chen finally said: "Father, can you tell me, have I done anything wrong?"
Su Cheng An went silent.
After a long while, he replied, "You did nothing wrong, you have always been a great child."
"Then why is it that I am unable to obtain support despite working so hard, instead, it becomes like this?" Su Chen asked again.
Su Cheng An replied, "Striving for improvement is not a crime, it just happens to be blocking the paths of other."
——
Su Family made a reform - After Su Chen's lie was exposed.
However, the change wasn't big, the year-end evaluation continued to test the current strength of partic.i.p.ants as the main method of evaluation, however, there was an additional right to challenge.
After the number one was announced, the person would be required to accept a challenge; the challenger will be chosen from the heirs that have lost, the challenge was only one round with no weapons allowed.
The advantage of the reform was that there wasn't a great change to the rules; this led to a great decrease in the number of people against the change, at the same time, it could also dispel Su Chang Che's worries of casualties from the compet.i.tion.
Of course, the purpose of the reform had therefore become obvious - everyone knew the target was at Su Chen.
This cause Su Qing to be excited for a period of time. He has even announced, Su Chen should give up on the year-end evaluation, if not, he would make him suffer during the challenge.
However, his threat was clearly useless.
This was because, the Su Ke Ji father and son duo very quickly received a piece of news, Su Chen confirmed his attendance to partic.i.p.ate in this year's year-end evaluation.
