"He only told me to bring you to him. Please, come." The man walked ahead without waiting.
Fred made up his mind. "I'll show you later," said Fred as he followed the man and wave a hand to his cla.s.smates.
"Make sure of that," said Braenton, pointing a finger resembling a shooting gun at Fred. "Or Bang!"
As they turned to another building, "Guys, do you know that student? He seems odd to me," said Amerth, his looking at the building where Fred and the guy pa.s.sed.
"We don't know every student here. How can you tell?" said Niall.
"I know, but he seems odd. He's wearing boots under his long coat and a bit old as a student," said Amerth, eyes still glued on that building but the two had left the spot.
The three looked at Amerth. A mix of anxiety and confusion crossed their faces while Wenti bit her nail.
"What? I only said what I saw," Amerth said, watching at the three's troubled faces.
"Nah, why would anyone harm him?" said Niall, brushing off the bad thoughts.
"Why not? The first study companion even died," said Wenti this time, still biting her nails with uneasiness.
The three looked at Braenton as the cla.s.s chairman. "Ar'nt we going to follow them?" said Niall.
"We need to ask help from a teacher," said Braenton, pulling his bag.
"I'm going after them," said Amerth, tugging his bag and placed his book back inside. He also brought out a disc.
"But teach might come. We can tell him," said Niall.
"Until when? When something bad has already happened to riddle guy?" Before leaving, Amerth looked at the three. "I suggest that you look for a teacher and ask for help. One of you must go and inform Prince Theodrech." He left as soon as he was done speaking.
"Brant?" asked anxious Niall, who couldn't decide what to do.
"Do as he says. Both of you go to the next building. I'll go to Prince's room," said Brant. He walked on the way to Theo's building.
At this time with Freidrech, he stared at the man's back walking ahead of him.
He turned his head and saw the nearest building was twenty steps away. 'I think this is far enough.'
Fred only cooperated for his cla.s.smates' sake. This guy might harm them if he resisted. Also, the only weapon he had right now was the fire flower's speckles he received.
Last night, the flowers had a pleasant show for him that ended with this gift in his hands.
The first presentation was a rainbow dance performed by the pet.i.te budding flowers as they formed shapes with their elegant steps without altering the specific colors in every line.
Next was water flowers sprinkling water on him while their swaying bodies walked around him. He snickered happily as he played with the water.
Thick-stemmed tulips took turns somersaulting above his head, making him smile in great awe to see them jumped like circus performers.
Hydrangeas danced in graceful steps while changing its hues as they moved their flower heads.
Birds of paradise flowers flapped their leaves as they presented a synchronized flying demonstration all over the garden. This part made him shout in great jubilation and wild applause while watching them.
Miniature willow plants hummed like a choir of different tones singing the melody of the famous fairy song Fred heard since young.
And the finale was the tremendous firecrackers display by thousands of fire flowers, filling the vast plantation with its magnificent popping light.
Afterward, a fire flower jumped on his hand and vigorously shook its head. To his amazement, red speckles fell on his palm.
However, it didn't end there. This fire flower jumped down and, without warning, its leaf plucked a petal from a white flower. The poor white flower jumped in fright and fainted in that instant. That fainting moved Freidrech. Out of pity, he picked it up with his empty hand.
"Are you okay?" And glared to the fire flower. "You're a naughty one. Why did you do that to this poor thing?"
All of the plants stopped from their movements. The fire flower drooped its head, feeling sad. The person he adored got angry at him.
A minute after, it lifted its red flower head up and hopped a bit. It didn't move more, seemed waiting for Fred. When the boy didn't say a thing, the fire flower hopped again all the way to Freidrech.
"What can you say about yourself?" said Freidrech. This time the flower had reached Fred's folded legs which were in squatting position. It lowered its head and brushed it on Fred's lap.
A big hydrangea sitting near Fred got impatient and jumped at once on Fred's shoulder. With a lashing sound, its roots whipped the fainted flower's stalk, shocking Freidrech out of his wits.
Before Freidrech could say a word, the white flower left his hand in a flash. This left Freidrech perfectly abashed. He was played for a fool by the white flower.
He gazed down on the laying fire flower on his lap and sighed.
"Sorry, I didn't know. Now, show me the reason why you pulled its petal."
The fire flower immediately became animated. It bounced in seconds before it placed the petal on the ground. Another fire flower came and shook its head, letting the red speckles fell on the white petal.
The flowers swiftly moved away thereafter. In a flash, the red objects sparked and burst into a tall fire, as tall as half of Freidrech's height.
Freidrech was so impressed and hollered in delight. "Whoa! Wonderful. So, this is what you're trying to show me." In a moment of elation, he lifted the fire flower right there and then and placed it on his cheeks. "You're adorable."
Due to its joy for being praised, the fire flower jumped on the air and popped itself like firecrackers. The other fire flowers followed suit.
The most amusing part was when they fell on the ground, they turned crimson and their feet wobbled like they were drunk before they collapsed. Freidrech let out a peal of bubbling laughter watching it.
"Haha, oh my, don't do that if it will make you dizzy."
Suddenly, a thought came to him. He turned around, found the dramatic white flower, and s.n.a.t.c.hed it from its hiding place. The white flower stiffened in his grip.
Fred focused his eyes while touching the petal's surface and there, he saw a waxy substance on it. He hastily laid down the scared white flower and ran fast to his room. His discoverer's brain couldn't wait for daylight to start his experiments with the red dust.
Later, tiredness overtook him and went out to sleep with the comfort of the hydrangeas and tulips as his pillows.
By morning, Fred was skeptical about how he was sleeping again on his bed. He would investigate this unusual phenomenon later.
However, he admitted he was refreshed after snuggling the hydrangeas and tulips.
Right now, he would conduct the first test of his experiment and his trial subject was this man. He couldn't tell how deadly was the effect but for certain it would be tragic. Bad luck for this guy.
He readied the candles he cut at home and the small bottle where he stored the red dust.
Fred didn't say a word until they reached a silent place past the stadium.
"Hey! Where are we going? I thought we're going to the administration building."
The man continued walking in silence.
Fred could feel the heat on his chest getting hotter. It meant more men with the intent to harm him. He looked around but couldn't see where they were.
This was bad. He couldn't tarry any longer. His hand took out three thumb-sized candles and swabbed a good amount of the red speckles and threw it on the man's back.
Before reaching the man's coat, the speckles began flickering and blazed on fire when it reached the man's coat. Before one could blink, the fire covered the whole coat and up to the man's hair. Someone shouted, informing the man of the fire but Freidrech didn't see anyone.
"Ahh!" The man in flames screamed and rolled on the ground to extinguish the fire.
Fred didn't linger to see the rest of the results and ran as fast as he could to the buildings.
"He's running away," said a man getting out from an invisible cloak. He was wearing a white coat.
"Go after him. Don't let him escape," said another person in a blue coat, coming out from a bush.
