Chapter 402: The Other Interrogation Room
Translator: Atlas Studios Editor: Atlas Studios
At the other interrogation room…
The man whom Lima called “the most disgusting person” was slumped in his chair.
His neat, tailored hair now looked like a thatch of straw on a roof with his head drooping. His grizzled hair made him look like he had aged for 10 more years under the dim light.
Places like the interrogation room seemed to carry an air of coldness. The temperature seemed lower by a few degrees compared to the temperature outside and the atmosphere was tense and dreary.
Generally, when people end up in such places, the police needed not to use intimidation tactics to make them fess up. As long as they were not like those slippery ones or wily old foxes, most would fess up what they did by their own accord.
They would tell the police everything, even those the police didn’t know.
They had already planted such subconscious thinking in their heart ages ago. Since there was no room for struggle, why wouldn’t they just cooperate?
Abdul was like that.
Before yesterday, he was still the owner of an upscale hotpot restaurant in Nanmu.
That day, he had not yet become a prisoner, he was already defeated when they looked him up!
As for all those inhumane things he had done to Lima, he had confessed. It did not differ from what Ye Lun and Lima had told them.
The only difference was that he refused to admit that he had gone to visit Lima prior to rushing to his hotpot restaurant the night before.
That was the only point of dispute in their testimony.
The detective who interrogated him felt that, in Abdul’s case, there was no point for him to deny if he had looked Lima up. After all, what he had done to Lima would not make much difference with this additional visit or not in the eyes of law.
Bai Muchuan had seen the statement and observed the middle-aged man through the one-way gla.s.s.
“Open the door.”
The detective opened the door.
Some cold air entered the room as well.
Abdul raised his head.
He winced, shrank his shoulders and gulped when he saw the police. His behavior was so different from that of yesterday.
He shifted his focus to Bai Muchuan.
Bai Muchuan was also looking at him with his usual sharp gaze.
With just a look, Abdul lowered his head.
He did not dare to look at Bai Muchuan in the eye.
Bai Muchuan nodded at the detective. “Close the door.”
Thud! The door was now closed.
In an enclosed s.p.a.ce, the psychological pressure of being with a person was undoubtedly greater.
Although Abdul was not looking at Bai Muchuan, his face was already ashen and the folds on his face were deeper.
He was frightened and confused, but he did not talk.
Bai Muchuan sat down on the chair opposite him and went through the doc.u.ments on the table. “Abdul, there are a few questions we needed you to verify once again.”
Abdul nodded cooperatively. “Mr. Detective, I’ll tell you whatever you want to know.”
Bai Muchuan asked, “How did you get to know Cui Ming?”
Abdul replied, stammering, “I didn’t, I didn’t know him…”
Bai Muchuan’s eyes turned slightly gloomy. “Do you want me to remind you of what you did to Lima again?”
“No, no, no, no! There’s no need to do that!” Abdul was very nervous. It was clear that he was more cautious and not as eloquent when facing Bai Muchuan. “Detective Bai, I’ve already told all that I know of. I’m not the one who initiated the idea of giving Lima to Cui Ming… It’s really, you see, I’m making a living in Nanmu; I have no other choice. He’s the one who took a liking to Lima. What can I do? Do I look like someone who dared to infuriate the Dark Clan?”
Bai Muchuan replied, “When did this happen?”
Abdul tried to recall. “It happened when he came over for dinner one day… That day, Lima was helping out at the restaurant, so that’s how it started.”
Bai Muchuan gave a mocking laugh. “So you delivered your daughter to his bed?”
Abdul did not look good. “I, I hesitated… but… he had a lot of men with him. He directly revealed his ident.i.ty and wanted to take Lima away. What can I do?”
“And?”
“That night… he took Lima with him.”
“Give a detailed account!”
“Yes… yes!”
Abdul was so nervous that he stammered as he tried to recall that incident.
“That time, I thought she would never come back again…”
When Cui Ming took Lima away, she disappeared for two months.
“I didn’t feel comfortable with that at all… After all, I was the one who brought her up, and she had never left me before… I heard nothing from them after he took her away. I didn’t dare to get someone to help find out as well. Sometimes, I even thought… she might be dead…”
Bai Muchuan snorted, “Is there anything strange about her after she came back?”
“There weren’t many changes in her behavior…” said Abdul haltingly, “since that was not the first time for her. Every time it happened, she would get over with it quickly. She would still talk to me as usual…
“But if you asked me if there was anything strange about her, there really seem to be so. That day when she came back, she was not in a good mood. She didn’t even greet me and she had this troubled look on her face… This girl was always like that since young, so I didn’t think much of it. I thought she might have felt uncomfortable after experiencing all these, so, I gave her some money to buy some nice clothing for herself…”
Bai Muchuan had a sneer on his face as he heard Abdul talking about all these like a “doting” father.
That sneer was full of sarcasm. Abdul could detect that and focused only on the facts.
“Ever since that incident, Lima has changed a little. She was not as obedient as before…”
He paused as he said this.
Bai Muchuan interrupted, “What do you mean by her being disobedient?”
Abdul’s eyes were moving around uneasily.
“She didn’t want to sleep with me anymore,” he said reluctantly, “she said that she’s a grown-up and wanted to sleep alone… She used to think that it was normal to sleep with me… She had never resisted like this. Unless she wanted to buy something or she couldn’t get something, then she would throw her little tantrum…”
It would be weird if she thought this was normal.
What sort of educated kid would think this was normal?
Lima had kept quiet, but that didn’t mean that she did not understand what he was doing to her.
This b*stard!
He had taken Lima’s fears and ingratiation for granted!
Abdul seemed to have detected Bai Muchuan’s emotions. “She did not want to be near me after she came back,” he cleared his throat, “she did not want to go help out at the restaurant and liked to lock herself up inside her room. There were many times that I would catch her in a daze, smiling to herself… just like a girl who had fallen in love.”
Fallen in love?
These words took everyone aback.
Lima was taken away by Cui Ming, who could she be in love with?
Who in the Dark Clan could trigger affection within Lima’s heart?
Bai Muchuan had a sharp gaze. “Did you ask her?”
Abdul replied, “I’ve asked! She refused to talk.”
A corner of Bai Muchuan’s lips turned upward coldly. “You would just give up like this because she refused to tell you?”
Abdul’s expression changed slightly to that of uneasiness and gave a dry laugh. “I’ve done all I could. I’ve lectured her and even hit her, but she refused to reveal anything. What else could I do? I can’t be claiming her life because of that, right?”
Bai Muchuan’s gaze went chilly. “What happened next?”
“Later on…” Abdul continued, “I observed her secretly—she did not meet anyone or did anything strange, so I just let this matter pa.s.s.”
Bai Muchuan looked at him deeply. “Aren’t you afraid at all for everything you’ve done?”
“I…” Abdul glanced at him and looked down again. “Initially, I was afraid and anxious about it. I was afraid that people would come to know about this… Slowly, my fears subsided. If she won’t tell anyone, I won’t tell anyone, either. Who would know if we kept mum about it?” After all, everyone’s impression of them was that of a father and a daughter who depended on each other, and that he was a kind and loving father to his daughter.
