Chapter 14

He spent easily close to an hour browsing the achievements available to him using the Achievements tab that Rue pulled up for him. It would have likely been longer, but James found the developers had organized the achievements quite well.

The Achievements screen was broken down into different tabs; General, Dungeon Building, Mobs, and Dungeon Vs Adventurers to name a few. Upon selecting a tab, a new window would open up, showing a wide range of different achievements. When James opened his General tab, the first achievement to show up, glowing bronze, was his completed Training Wheels achievement. He wasn't surprised when he focused on it, that the achievement's description came up. Underneath, where the reward would have been, was the word Completed.

As James browsed through the achievements, he noticed many seemed to either be locked, or hidden. The locked achievements were greyed out, with a padlock over them and their specific tier needed for unlocking. The hidden achievements simply had question marks. Even with so many hidden and locked though, the amount available to James was staggering.

Because of the large amount, and his time remaining, James did his best to take note of any and all achievements he could accomplish in a short amount of time. The gamer in him was all for maximizing early experience and resource gain by completing achievements.

"Whatcha doing?" Rue's voice pulled James from his concentration, and he glanced from the pixie, to the timer. He had 10 hours remaining.

"Achievement hunting." He replied, going back to his task. He had his Dungeon Creator screen up, and was flipping through his options. James wouldn't be able to gain any Mob or Dungeon Vs Adventurer achievements until players began entering his dungeon. That left his focus on General and Dungeon Building achievements. If he was correct, he would be able to complete about six achievements in the next 10 hours, netting him a total of 2,000 extra experience, 400 resources, and 2 dungeon tokens.

"Did you forget your promise?" Rue's voice held the faintest hint of a warning, and James suddenly turned all his attention to her. I

"Uh-" In his excitement over the achievements, and maximizing his time utilization, he had completely forgotten what he promised her.

"You need to do your loot Glyax." She fixed a hard stare on him. "Properly."

James let out a sigh, and closed the windows he had been scrolling through. As much as it pained him to pull away from his task at hand, he had made a promise to her. Besides, even after fixing his loot, he was certain he would still be able to complete his achievements.

"All right." He pulled up the Loot Generator screen, and tried his best to focus. Unlocking achievements was just so addicting.

"I'm just trying to make sure you become a great dungeon." Rue flew over to him, and leaned against his...o...b.. looking at the screen he was looking at.

"I know." James grumbled, though his anger was quickly fading with her presence. However, he now found himself fighting to focus between two different types of loot. Rue looked down at him grinning. She was well aware of what she was doing to him.

"The sooner you finish properly, the sooner you can go back to your little side quest." Rue cooed, pointing back towards the loot screen, drawing his attention back to his appropriate mission.

"You're right." He pulled up his d.i.c.ken, taking a quick glance at the loot.

d.i.c.ken - 3

Copper Coin 1-1

Demonic Feather (common) 1-3

d.i.c.ken meat – raw (common) 1-3

d.i.c.ken Egg – (uncommon) 1-3

d.i.c.ken Talon – (uncommon) 1-3

Earlier, he had just blanket given each mob the chance to drop up to 3 items at a time. Based on Rue's explanation, this meant RNG would determine how many items could be dropped. From there, the loot drops became percentage based, depending on the rarity of the item. Once an item had been determined, the amount dropped was also decided by his preset parameters, and RNG. He glanced at his d.i.c.ken's sheet, and the gamer in him immediately started scolding him.

"Hey Rue, what's the difference in drop rate between items?" He wanted to know just what the percentage was, before began fixing the mistakes he had made in his rush.

"Depends on the item." She shot him a grin, which he responded to with a one eyed glare. Or at least, that was what he was trying to do.

"So, for my d.i.c.ken?" He winced the moment he said it, and Rue started laughing. He swore his AI's mind was created in a gutter.

"Well, if you must know about your d.i.c.ken." More laughter, but she regained her composure quick enough. "Since Demonic Feathers and d.i.c.ken meat are both the most common items your d.i.c.ken can drop, each will have a 25 percent chance to drop. Coins will always have a 30 percent chance to be dropped as loot, while your two uncommon items will both have a 10 percent chance to drop."

So it was based on a percentage, and was dependent on the rarity and types of loot a mob had to drop. James could already begin to see how items could start going up in rarity, especially if a mob has a large loot table. He had spent many days, weeks, and even months trying to get some extremely rare pieces of loot to drop.

"Is there a way for me to adjust the percent chance of loot dropping? If, for instance, I wanted one piece of loot to be a guaranteed drop?" That way, if his mob had a chance to drop up to three items, the first item would always be the same one.

"Not right now." Rue shot him a grin. "When you begin researching loot, you will start unlocking more advanced controls and capabilities with regards to what you can influence and manage. For now, you just finished with your training wheels." The pixie snickered at her own joke. Sadly, James had noticed a lot of achievements were either named poorly with puns, or jokes. He wasn't going to escape them any time soon.

"Alright, so I know what I'm going to research next." He resisted the temptation to blow another dungeon token to complete his Trap research. He was already an hour in to it, and it would be a waste of a perfectly good token. Besides, he figured he didn't need to get too fancy with basic loot just yet.

"Probably a good choice." Oh, the pixie was being smug now.

"Thanks, I thought so." James, looked back at his d.i.c.kens, and with his newfound knowledge, made his own changes. He decided it was alright for his mob to have the chance to drop up to 3 items, leaving that to RNG. He figured one of those items would almost always be a single copper coin. The next, either a feather or meat. Those made sense. His main adjustment for his d.i.c.ken, was the amount of each item that could be dropped. After all, it wouldn't make sense for a single d.i.c.ken to drop more than one d.i.c.ken meat.

"How's that look?" He asked Rue once he finished his changes, directing her towards the screen. d.i.c.ken - 3

Copper Coin 1-1

Demonic Feather (common) 1-4

d.i.c.ken meat – raw (common) 1-1

d.i.c.ken Egg – (uncommon) 1-1

d.i.c.ken Talon – (uncommon) 1-2

He had limited his meat and eggs to a single drop per kill. Changed his talons to two, figuring one from each leg made sense, and then increased his feathers to 4. Because feathers were usually needed for arrows, which usually took 3, he decided he would make that drop have the highest amount possible to be dropped.

"See, I knew you could do a better job." Rue laughed as she flew off his...o...b.. hovering lazily in the air. "Now, do the rest of them."

"I will." James wouldn't tell Rue, but he really liked the mental aspect of choosing how to a.s.sign loot. Something about the control and power it gave him, plus the mental task itself, just felt rewarding when he finished a mob's loot a.s.signment. Thirty minutes of additional work, the clock now under 10 hours, saw him looking at his boss mob's loot table.

Old Man Jenkins – 3

Copper Coin 1-10

Cooked d.i.c.ken (common) 1-3

Lamb's wool (common) 1-3

Swiner Hide (common) 1-3

Goat's Milk (common) 1-3

Mad Cow Jerky (uncommon) 1-3

Moonshine (uncommon) 1-3

Demonic Farmer's Boots (Demonic Farmer Set Piece) (Unique) 1-3

Demonic Farmer's Gloves (Demonic Farmer Set Piece) (Unique) 1-3

Demonic Farmer's Pitchfork (Demonic Farmer Set Piece) (Unique) 1-3

Demonic Farmer's Overalls (Demonic Farmer Set Piece) (Unique) 1-3

Demonic Farmer's flannel shirt (Demonic Farmer Set Piece) (Unique) 1-3

Corn Cob Pipe (Demonic Farmer Set Piece) (Unique) 1-3

Straw Hat (Demonic Farmer Set Piece) (Unique) 1-3

"Ugh." James immediately hated himself for blanket a.s.signing numbers to his loot earlier. He had done it so quick, he hadn't taken time to actually inspect what his boss mob had as loot. Had he not promised Rue, and actually come back to his loot, his boss mob's drops would have been causing quite the problem.

"What?" Rue's voice feigned sincerity, but her facial expression took on an evil smirk. She knew exactly what he was upset about.

"Old Man Jenkin's loot is a mess."

"Well, you did that to yourself."

"Yeah yeah." He knew continuing the conversation would likely just result in the AI making him openly comment on his mistake even more, and he didn't want to deal with that. Instead, he needed to fix his problem, so he could get back to achievement hunting. He had a little over 9 hours left, a boss mob's loot to fix, achievements to claim, and a first floor to decorate. So much to do, so little time.
