Chapter 417: Asking Around
Yao Tang had seen a ton of gentle guys in her lifetime, but there was something about Yang Nian that made her think that he was hiding something else.
“What’s the matter?”
“I think I’ll be more comfortable in speaking with you outside, if that’s okay with you.”
She was about to reject him directly, but upon being reminded of what Princ.i.p.al Kong had said earlier, she nodded. “Fine,” she stated. “Let’s go.”
Yang Nian brought her to an empty cla.s.sroom.
!!“What’s the matter?”
“I actually called you out because I wanted to apologize to you,” he said slowly, sincerity shining in his eyes.
She didn’t say anything in response.
“What happened in the cla.s.sroom was all due to Yan Wei. She was just too impulsive. I hope you wouldn’t hold that against her. She does apologize for her actions.”
“It’s fine.”
Yao Tang nodded. There was no other expression on her face as she stepped back, indicating that she was about to leave.
“Yao Tang—”
“Is there something else?”
“A few of us would be attending a party this weekend. We were wondering if you’d like to join us,” he offered with a smile on his face.
“I have something I need to do that day.” With a shrug, she left.
Yang Nian didn’t have any expression on his face. With a sigh, he turned to the back door of the cla.s.sroom. “Come out,” he called, knowing that there was someone watching over them.
Yan Wei stepped from behind the doorframe.
“You called her over to apologize?” Her eyebrows were furrowed over. “Why would you do that?”
“Try not to provoke her in the future.”
“Provoke her?” She scoffed. “Do you think she’s that impressive just because she got some review materials from our school? Have you lost your mind?”
“You’ve already heard what Yao Ran had to say about her. She’s just another girl from the countryside. I can’t believe you’d even ask her to join us. Do you think she deserves to breathe the same air as us?”
She continued, “I even asked Yao Ran about her family situation, and from what I hear, she came from a really poor family. It would be impossible for her to get these review materials.”
Yang Nian remained silent, still deep in thought.
“I’ve already checked the background of the other students in Cla.s.s 20. It so happens that we’re surrounded by quite powerful names. The prodigal son of the Meng Family is very well-known. Whatever he wants, he gets.”
“And Qin Jing—do you know that she’s the only daughter of the Qin Family?”
Yang Nian stared at her, surprised.
It seemed that the Yan Family’s network knew no bounds. They knew just about anyone here, down to the skeletons in their closet.
Even if she had just arrived to City A, she happened to know all of the gossip.
Yan Wei’s eyes glinted. “I heard that Lin Xin happens to be a relative of a certain official—”
Before she could finish, Yang Nian’s gaze changed.
He stared at Yan Wei. While there were no emotions in his eyes, it still made her feel intimidated.
“Don’t inquire too much in the future.”
His words were faint, but it was enough to make her feel angry.
..
Zhang Dong waited the entire morning, but Yao Tangwas still nowhere to be seen. Only when cla.s.ses were about to end did he hear about Yao Tangfinally returning.
He made up his find to rush after her after cla.s.s.
What he didn’t expect was for his teacher to extend his cla.s.s hours by explaining the lesson even further.
Why couldn’t he hurry up and speak? Finish the lesson already? He groaned inwardly.
However, holding his temper, he paid attention to the teacher’s every move.
Only when the teacher had finished the last question did he finally heave a sigh of relief and rushed out of the cla.s.sroom.
He could only hope that Yao Tang still hadn’t left yet.
