I hurled the Teen Rouge across the room. It hit a lamp, knocking it to the ground with a satisfying crash.
"How dare she? Does she think she's all that just because she's finally figured out she's pretty? F*ck!"
I stomped over to the fallen magazine and ripped off the cover, tearing Alice's dumb face into tiny pieces. But I was still angry. How dare she? How dare she?!
She used to be just some spoiled, bratty princess who had no appreciation for anything she had. But then she started to become calculating, and now she was finally using her looks against me.
It wasn't enough that she was prettier than me. She had also gotten better grades than me in school. And then she even had to steal the boy I liked. Now, not only was she married to Julian, she was rubbing it in and flaunting it for the world to see!
The tabloid article on the table "Just Who IS the New Leonhart? Mysterious Beauty Unveiled!" stared up at me, and I couldn't take it any longer. I s.n.a.t.c.hed it up and tore that into pieces as well.
"That b.i.t.c.h. I'll kill her!"
I had to think.
Breathing hard, I sat down on the couch and bit at my thumbnail. Snap. Snap. Snap.
Something was definitely up. Alice used to cling to me as her best friend. She would tell me everything. I even called her mother "mama" no matter how much it made me cringe.
But now, she barely ever spoke to me. Actually, forget that, she never spoke to me. The last time she had spoken to me, she had asked me to go to brunch before I blew her off. And that was almost three months ago now!
Then there was the night I had "b.u.mped" into Julian at Sky. I'd been looking forward to running into him that entire day, but he'd completely blown me off aftering asking me a few lame questions about Alice. He never blew me off! Not like that, anyway. He'd usually only speak to me about her, but he always kept me around.
I knew it was only because of his mother, but I didn't give a d.a.m.n. As long as I could have him near me, I didn't care why. But now he wasn't even answering my texts!
Snap. Snap. Snap.
I chewed my thumbnail harder.
What was I going to do about her?
There was definitely something wrong.
I had never had this problem before. Julian's mother used to be wrapped around my finger entirely, but ever since the wedding, she hadn't been much use. There was the necklace she had just sent me, of course, which I was going to wear to the movie premier in a few days as planned, but now I wasn't sure it was going to be enough. I wasn't confident Julian wouldn't confront me about it anymore.
And would it be enough to cause that s.l.u.t to be concerned?
What if their relationship was stronger than I'd thought?
...There was always him, of course. But I was reluctant to rely on his help, ever since that incident in Hawaii. He'd almost gotten me caught up in his stupid schemes.

"No, I can't rely on that idiot…"
He was a pervert, anyways. I didn't want to be implicated in his sick fantasies. I didn't care what he did with Alice after I'd taken her place, but until then, I needed Julian to believe I was innocent.
If Julian ever found out I'd planned to hurt her, he'd probably never talk to me again! It was obvious to anyone that he loved Alice, no matter how much I hated to admit it. But as long as I pretended to be her friend, he couldn't blame me for anything.
Snap. Snap. Snap.
"F*CK! I can't take this!"
I stood up and paced the living room. Alice was probably just caught up in the haze of love, and that's why she hadn't contacted me. So what if she'd picked up a little hobby of showing off just how pretty she was? So what if she was now the latest public sweetheart? That didn't matter. Two or three magazine fashion spreads and one cover were nothing. I could do that, if I really wanted!
No, what mattered was that her and Julian were still keeping a distance from each other. And from what Madam Leonhart had told me, they were. She had spies in that house, so there was no way her information would be inaccurate.
As long as there was still room for me to squeeze into, I would do it. I would steal back his heart from that b.i.t.c.h, even if I had to kill her to do it.
