“Do you want to go to a hospital to get her a check-up?” Qu Zhen was perplexed. The chubby girl who was lively yesterday was now unbelievably tense.
“Calm down, she said she was just a bit down because of the upcoming apocalypse.” Xia Man said as she helped Qu Zhen open the door.
She had been here before in her previous life, but she didn't stay for long. Qu Zhen's a.n.a.lysis was exactly the same as the one in her previous life. After the apocalypse outbreak, the war between the military and political armies broke out completely, almost making Qu Zhen, who was in between, into a victim.
Qu Zhen brought the chubby girl into the house. “We should leave this afternoon. Do you have anything else you should do?”
Xia Man shook her head. “No.”
Qu Zhen felt that it was strange. But at the same time, she was joyful. In other words, even if the apocalypse came, Xia Man really won't think of Xiang Yang?
When Fa Wu called everyone to go, Xia Man was still lying on her bed, soundly asleep. She actually hadn't planned to go to bed, but she was dragged to bed by Qu Zhen. “There might not be any chance to lie down and sleep peacefully.”
Xia Man understood that Qu Zhen was doing this because she hadn't slept the entire night last night. Xia Man thought back to the black circles on Qu Zhen's eyes this morning, so she obediently listened and lied down.
So when the zombies broke out it a few areas, because Qu Zhen dragged them to bed, Xia Man, Qu Zhen, and the chubby little girl were sleeping soundly.
When Fa Wu came, he knocked at the door. After a while, he saw Qu Zhen coming out with Xia Man and the chubby child.
Xia Man took the chubby girl from Qu Zhen's arms. “I'll hold her.” Because Qu Zhen still has something she needs to do.
Xia Man looked at the armed cars, a trace of satisfaction visible in her eyes. Looks like when Qu Zhen said that there was no problem, she had already foreseen that weapons would be essential, even before the apocalypse began.
In fact, she fully understood that the industrial development in the latter stage was almost stagnant because of its dependence on the apocalypse. It wasn't easy to arm a car in times of chaos.
Xia Man, Qu Zhen, and the chubby little girl were in the second car. When they came out of the compound, they saw that the people on the streets had began to crazily buy up the supermarket stocks. From time to time, a scream could be heard. As for it was because of other people or zombies, it was unknown.
When a zombie dog not any worse than a grown-up tiger rushed out, everyone was shocked.
The car at the very front was Hua Xiangrong's when the zombie dog rushed out, causing her to reflexively turn around. Zhang Lin, who was sitting beside Hua Xiangrong, calmly pulled out his gun. Immediately after, a shot penetrated the zombie dog's stomach. Zhang Lin was getting warmed up. Unexpectedly, the zombie dog with a b.l.o.o.d.y hole on its stomach rushed again.
Hua Xiangrong took the gun in Zhang Lin's hand and immediately gave the zombie dog a headshot. After making sure that the zombie dog won't get back up again, she raised her eyebrows. “A life without watching zombie films is an incomplete one. They didn't say wrong after all. Everybody knows a zombie should be shot on the head!”
Zhang Lin touched his head. Well, looks like his life is incomplete.
In the car rear, Qu Zhen had already covered Xia Man's eyes when the headshot happened.
Xia Man didn't refuse, even after seeing Fa Wu's contemptuous look. Even though she had changed, she still needed a weak front.
Qu Zhen said that these people were the ones she trusts most. But in her previous life, these people had betrayed Qu Zhen in the end.
Seeing Hua Xiangrong shoot the zombie's head, Fa Wu expressionlessly said, “Hua Xiangrong, don't swear. Just drive. We'll never be able to escape otherwise.”
As soon as he said that, he glanced towards the onlookers that had taken their phones out to report to the police.
Hua Xiangrong thought of how she had somehow offended Fa Wu. She didn't dare disobey, so she immediately started driving.
Qu Zhen looked at Xia Man, who was obediently sitting in place. Because she had covered Xia Man's eyes, she could only see Xia Man's pale lips. Her mind jolted. At this moment, Xia Man blinked her eyes. Her long eyelashes brushed Qu Zhen's palm, creating ripples in Qu Zhen's heart.
“Qu Zhen?” Xia Man was in a daze.
Qu Zhen took back her hand as if nothing happened and looked out the window.
“Mommy?” At this moment, the chubby girl woke up, her eyes fixated on Xia Man.
“Your mommy is over there.” Xia Man took the chubby girl, sat up, and turned to Qu Zhen, then said.
Qu Zhen didn't know why, but when she heard it, she felt a little funny inside. Xia Man rarely expressed her discontent, as she usually just keep everything inside, no matter what happened.
“Come, come here, your Mommy Xia Man detests us.” Qu Zhen said, holding the chubby girl while pinching her cheeks.
When Xia Man heard this, she felt as though something was stuck in her throat. “Who detests you…” She hardly ever sat and talked with Qu Zhen like this. Especially after they graduated university, when they just gave each other the cold shoulders.
“Okay, Mommy Xia Man doesn't detest us.” Qu Zhen caressed Xia Man's hair. “So the little one will call you Mommy Xia Man from now on?”
Even though she said it in a flat tone, Xia Man felt the hand caressing her hair lightly quiver.
Xia Man nodded. She could clearly feel how tense Qu Zhen was. She had hardly ever seen Qu Zhen like this. Even before she was reborn, Qu Zhen could still calmly arrange everything.
Qu Zhen couldn't believe her eyes. She hardly had any hope. She didn't know how Xia Man interpreted her words, but she was already satisfied.
The chubby little girl gave Qu Zhen a lot of face*, affectionately calling out to Xia Man, “Mommy Xia Man.”
*face, as in reputation, honor, dignity, and the likes if you haven't known already.
“En.” Xia Man didn't know if the choice she made was right, but she couldn't bear to turn down Qu Zhen's humble request.
In her mind, Qu Zhen is the sun. She was burned by her light over and over again, yet she was still willing to be around her.
If she hadn't gone to college, if there weren't so many rumors, if she hadn't set ablaze* her love over and over again, if…
*毁 ( huǐ ): to ruin, damage, or defame.
But things don't always go as one expects.
The car was driven very quickly, so they were able to get out of the city center quite soon. Xia Man felt that something was wrong. The previously sunny sky was beginning to dim.
Because they had already left the city center, on the highway, the surrounding cars gradually stopped. Some people had even gone out of their cars, watching as the sky increasingly became dark, feeling overwhelmed.
Because the car in front stopped, Qu Zhen's car couldn't continue moving forward.
“…” Qu Zhen stretched her head out the window and looked at the semi-dark sky.
At this moment, Qu Zhen was gently holding Xia Man's hand, while Xia Man gazed at Qu Zhen's back before turning to look at the chubby girl in Qu Zhen's arms. As expected, the chubby girl had the exact same expression as hers, unaware of what's going to happen. This had never happened in her previous life.
Translator's Notes:
Sorry I wasn't able to update previously… (TTATT)
It wasn't because I procrastinated this time, I swear.
Extra:
Read this at if you haven't, kay~? I need support.
And no, I don't mean monetary support. The site is ad-free and won't have ads until at least 2020 or something. So I mean mental support. Translating is hard (yes I'm ranting here). So not only me, but also support other translators~! They need it and we all know it.
It'd be better to support the author, but I don't think you'd actually be here if you could read Chinese perfectly well lol… Anyways, thanks for reading~!
……Give me my (mental) support, or else I'll just procrastinate 24/7 and give you 101 reasons why I haven't updated I need my motivation. Please. *begs for an entire day and uses it as an excuse for not updating*
